  1. I need to start doing that. You can never go slow enough.
  2. Thank you Wild Bill...you are a pretty cool dude.
  3. Thanks Wild Bill...motorcycles, beaches, and friends sounds just about perfect to me! The discussion was mostly just for kicks. I was curious about the origins of why people do things a certain way. Thank you for the kind words....but I feel like I have quite a way to go to get to "near flawless." I'm just trying to enjoy the ride.
  4. Thank you so much Bob! Thank you Stephen! I'll have to look into ranger belts as I'm not totally sure what you are referring to. I'll google search it. Thanks for the suggestion.
  5. I just realized you got "U" shaped gussets on the bag...hmmmm that makes my suggestion not so good. LOL. You could do a hanging pocket on the inside and line up the vertical stitching rows with straps maybe?
  6. I fell in it the hobby (addiction) as well. I made a yardage book for my dad for a local golf course. I then decided I needed to put it in something. After looking at how damn expensive the nice ones were I decided to make my own.
  7. Very nice work Monica! The only small critique I have is the interior pocket stitching showing through to the back of the bag. And that is a very minor critique. It may have looked just a bit cleaner to catch it up in the stitching attaching the gusset to the bag. I am always very happy to check out your work!
  8. It's probably just practice. I know it took me a while to get to where I was cutting everything true and square.
  9. Like I said it's really personal preference. You did an awesome job for your 4th leather project.
  10. Looks a lot better than my first wallet too! LOL. The only critique I have is I think a smaller thread would look a bit better. That thread is really filling out the holes. But this is just personal preference and your stitching looks great!
  11. Really great answer. And very informative. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
  12. It looks really nice but I would much prefer to have the blade of the knife covered with the handle sticking out. I guarantee I would swiss cheese myself trying to grab one of those knifes when I'm in a hurry.
  13. Oh yeah. I will for sure try it out with some contrasting colors. This was a commissioned item and she wanted it all one color.
  14. Yeah I agree. It doesn't really fit with the rest of the wallet. I'm going to have to try some other stuff for the next one. Maybe an English style strap end point?
  15. Thanks Rudi! You can do it. Although if you hand stitch it expect it to take literally forever. But it can be done no problem.
  16. Please don't. I won't be green with envy...I'll die with envy.
  17. Hey guys and gals, I've been watching a lot of youtube cobbler videos and got the idea to try and incorporate a brogue style into a wallet. It just so happened that a good friend of mine wanted a wallet so I figured why not? I made some mistakes along the way but overall I am pretty happy with how it came out. I started drinking a bit too early on in the process and forgot to put my makers mark on the inside card pocket so instead it's in a corner on the back of the wallet. Also I put the snap on the strap on too early and had to remove it. Which caused some distress to the strap. The only other hard part was matching up the stitching from around the brogue accents on the outside to the general stitching around the wallet. I ended up just using an awl and going from the outside to the inside where I wanted the stitching to match up. Then I punched all my holes from the inside to the outside based off where the awl holes were. Thanks for checking it out! Tell me what you like and how I can improve. Joe
  18. I've worked with both essex and chromexcel. They are both very nice to work with. None of them really burnish like tooling leather. The essex is finished with oils and fats so it resists burnishing a bit...but not as bad as combination tanned leathers like chromexcel or the orion.
  19. Jesus man. You have so many nice tools. I am green with envy. Feel free to send me any "extras" you don't "need" anymore! LOL.
