  1. Aniline dyes have no correlation to the type of tannage.
  2. Thank you very much! I can't take full credit as I took the idea from the Valerie Michael book. I cant' wait to see what you come up with!
  3. I've found that websites like this: http://www.leatherhidestore.com/leather-remnants-leather-pieces/stonewash/stone-washed-orange-leather-cow-hides-upholstery-skins-craft.html help to show you the leather's temper and hand. The worst is when they just take a photo of a square of leather. It tells you almost nothing other than the color.
  4. Use a Quilter's ruler and a rotary cutter. Definitely the easiest way to cut stretchy leather.
  5. These are all awesome ideas. I am a very simple phone user. I think the only reason I have an iPhone is my wife got an upgrade and I got her old one! LOL. However, for someone else who listens to a lot of music on their phone these features would be a necessity for sure.
  6. Thanks Billy! I pulled it out of the Valerie Michael book. She put the washer on the inside but I wanted the phone to slide in and out easily and just figured it would get hung up on the washer so I put it on the outside instead.
  7. Thanks Rohn! This project was a lot of fun. I didn't really make a template or anything. Just kind of winged it. I'm really happy with the result! Thanks Grumpy! Yeah the back of the snap is sandwiched between the leather washer and the front of the case so no metal is touching the phone. Its actually really easy to stitch in a circle. I used a 2 prong pricking iron to make the holes.
  8. Hello Everyone, Here is a iPhone Holster Case I made out of Horween Black Essex. I made this style case because I hate how bulky a phone in a case feels in your pocket. I hope you guys like it! Joe
  9. Here's mine: http://www.mitchell-leather.com/images/48ec673a0c5eb01fb18bcd50ed8f48fa.jpg I love these briefcases and will eventually try and make my own someday.
  10. You could try standard bag stiffener. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/en-usd/product/bag-stiffener-9072-00.aspx
  11. Nothing wrong with carrying around some "protection!" I've found that the Aussie works well if you warm up the leather first with a heat gun or a hair dryer then massage it in.
  12. Monica beat me to the punch. LOL. I also have not bought anything from them either but they look pretty nice.
  13. I recommend the same thing all the time on here. Fiebing's Aussie. I love the subtle sheen and great smell it gives. It provides some protection but nothing like resolene etc...
  14. Oh that sucks. I guess I would just do a bunch of test lines on some scrap. That way you can at least find the look you are after.
  15. for 7 spi I would use .030 or around there.
  16. The best way I have found is to fold over the edge of the fabric on itself. You can do this by covering up a 1/2 inch strip at the edge and then applying your glue. Then you can stick the fabric to the leather. Then you can trim the fabric to a 1 inch strip along the edge and fold it in half. This will then be glued to the 1/2 inch strip you left unglued. I hope that makes sense. I have a picture of a lined wallet I did this way and it turned out quite nicely (I think).
  17. Thanks Double! Yeah I don't plan on changing the buckle ever so rivets make the most sense for me. I'll keep on using rivets as standard unless someone askes for snaps or chicago screws.
  18. I used some regular cotton lining from Jo-Ann Fabrics. Eventually I'll buy some nice vintage print stuff like what Barrett Alley does but I wanted to practice on the cheap.
  19. Go look at Guarded Goods. Pretty much all his stuff is that weight range.
