Neon Koi
HellcatLeathers replied to Big Papa Leather's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I know I don't post on here much, but damn....I must say that is one fine-ass wallet!!! I LOVE the koi and the color work. How did you do that? Someone mentioned "reverse color" and I get it, but how do you do it so well? -

Great job! I love pirates..... -
Here is a pic of my work area under the enclosed portion of my deck. It's all cypress and cedar and smells great while working outside.....I love it! I keep everything in rubbermaid containers and take it out when needed. The table is solid teak and weighs a ton. I couldn't move it if I tried! All the dyes are kept in my toolbox. I would love to get a bigger piece of granite and bolt down a rivet setter. Any suggestions?

May I ask where you got the solid brass spots and rivets from?

My latest helmet shield for my very first customer
HellcatLeathers replied to ChaChi's topic in Figure Carving
What gold paint or dye did you use? I have a customer that wants some gold leaf or gold sparkle in his design. -
Hey! A friend of mine had some vintage watches that she wanted leather bands for. I used a thin veg tan leather; dyed with Eco Dye; used spray Satin Sheen for a few coats and then waxed it up with some aussie beeswax. I didn't have a template or anything and I don't measure anything...I just "eye" it. Whatcha think?

Nice job! Where did you get the red cloth skull lining? What airbrush did you use? I'm thinking about getting one.....

skull & flames dog collar

It looks awesome! Nice job! However, you might want to be careful using logos without permission of the manufacturer. Now, you can change up the design just enough to make it your own (like half the music artists out there do....change a couple notes and it avoids a lawsuit) Remember how Disney sued tons of daycares for having "images" painted of Mickey and characters on their walls? I'm sure Harley is just as nice.... just be cautious on who you sell to.... I think it's bad ass!!! -

Great job! But what I want to know is....what all did you use to make Han Solo's blaster? -
I have made some bag handles out of veg tanned leather. I got a piece of hemp rope and put contact cement all over it and the leather. Then I rolled the leather around the rope and stitched it together at the top. I'll see if I can dig it out of one of my boxes and post a photo for you....it was alot of work, but I think it came out pretty decent.

LADIES CLUTCH PURSE
HellcatLeathers replied to DJ1935's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Cool effect!!! Reminds me of the marble easter egg dyes when I was a kid. Acids?? I'd probably end up burning my eyeballs out. I think I'll stick to dyes and stains. -
Now that is an original idea! And it came out great!!!
-
I'm almost afraid to ask, but how many hours did that take you from start to finish? It's the most amazing thing I have ever seen.....

Hey Tom, those bracers are too awesome....love the two toned red and black dye job.....i just got that backgrounder tool and I love it!!! Looking forward to seeing some more stuff!

Wallet liner
HellcatLeathers replied to Big Papa Leather's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I use rubber cement. Put rubber cement on the back of your liner and put it on your leather where you want the liner to stick. Let both dry completely....about 15-30 minutes. Then apply the liner onto the leather and use an old kitchen baking roller to roll it out and make sure you don't get any bubbles and the fabric lays flat. I handstitch it also. -
Okay, I finished it. But I'm not happy with the dye job. I tried something new. I put the atom wax on the flames..let it dry and buffed...then put on coffee brown eco-flo stain. It looked great! Color was beautiful and perfectly even. Then, I let it dry and put on the satin sheen...well, it lifted up some of the color. With every stroke, color came off. I had to decide to go in horizontal direction rather than circles and what was left gave the wallet a "woodgrain" effect. The BBQ guy I sold it to absolutely loved it but I was dissappointed on how it turned out. Anyway, I'll do another flame one soon and try another process. I think some of the old Tandy finishes don't work with the newer Eco-Flo? Any advice?

That is gorgeous!!! How much would you charge for it? May I ask where you get the elephant and the frog skins from? (besides Malaysian sellers on Ebay)

Here is my latest work in progress....a biker's wallet for a guy who owns a BBQ catering company. His truck that pulls the bbq trailer has the same flames on it...so does his business card. I'm planning on dying/staining wallet a distressed brown. Thought about painting the flames but I haven't done any cova color or airbrushing yet so I don't want to ruin this one. If anyone has any cool staining ideas, please give 'em to me! I was thinking about a brown base with black over it and wipe some off to give distressed look?
