  1. Lindatt, WOW! Thanks for the before and after photos... I think all of us craft-people really enjoy seeing the work in progress! OUTSTANDING!
  2. Hey Tom! That really looks like something old! (more then 7 years) I like the aged look, makes it look like something you would find in a church! Very Nice!
  3. Lindatt, I'm with the Swede! There all great but that Butterfly mask rules!
  4. Jordan, Beautiful Sheath! Hold on to that knife... So many of the older K-Bars became so pitted they became unserviceable.. (High Carbon Steel) What did you use for the beautiful finish? Nice Job!
  5. Well, this is the wallet that I almost finished lacing... Here is the before and after dying with Fiebliing's Sprit dyes. It is for my friends father who bought a similar wallet 25 years ago and carried it every day. He wanted another "laced-up" wallet but couldn't find one. All the time I was making this I kept thinking that this will probably be the last wallet he will ever own! (He's over 75) It's funny because he said "I'll pay you for it" Let's see 2+ hours tooling, 2+ hours painting, and 2+ hours lacing add the kit cost of $22- So Charging him is out of the question but knowing that this will be his last wallet is payment enough... Man, I would go broke as a full time leatherworker!
  6. The best thing about this forum is seeing everybody's work and learning from both our achievements and our mistakes. Here is a quick flower I tapped out to try some acrylic paint that I had from Dick Blick. I watered it down and just tried to blend... Then I passed the piece under running water and that blended it real fast!
  7. Hello Chuck, I just wanted to let you know that your DVD's on leatherworking are very enjoyable! Your down to earth presentation and dozens of helpful tips and tricks made the viewing very excitiing and left me wanting for more! These items are just another example of your talent for this craft!
  8. UPDATE- Thankyou all for your sympathy. I don't feel so bad now! I wrote a long e-mail to Tandy and addressed it to the "deaf ear" department. The good news is that I also mentioned it to my Tandy guy and he took the lacing out from another kit and had it in the mail within minutes! THAT is why I am so loyal to my Tandy Rep. Problems happen, but when the dealer makes it right, it makes everything right! Now by him taking the time to right a wrong I will be placing a new order this week that I was pondering...
  9. Hey Mike, Nice site... Lots of luck! I see that the owl is your signature pic, is there a special reason for the "night owl" logo? Thanks John P.S. Owls are quite rare here in my neck of the woods.
  10. I'm so pissed! My friend's Father asked me to make him a wallet that has laciing around the edges... I thought I would knock one out in no time if I ordered a "kit". I have heard the nightmares about Tandy's line of wallet kits but I was in a pinch and ordered one up. (Maverick Wallet kit- #44020-02) I received the kit and the first thing I did was check EVERY hole to make sure they lined up and they did... So far so good. Then I tooled, dyed, finished and went thru the TEDIOUS process of lacing the wallet as per instructions (Double loop) and low and behold with 5 holes left... I ran out of lace! Did I mention If you have ever laced before you know what a total pain the begining is because of having to feed 20 feet of lacing thru every hole and it takes t i m e . Am I the only person who has had this problem? If not maybe we can save some poor soul from making the same mistake. Oh yeah...
  11. You have to feel bad for the bum rap that some animals get just for their looks... A humming bird, ladybug and butterfly have a much easier time then the Frog, Spider or Opossum. Does anyone feel bad for the "Slug"?

    Sodbuster! Awesome work!!!
  13. Hello Nick, Just my two cents... A few years ago I was doing some projects that required some simple sewing. I read what I could online and purchased a video on "How to Sew" well a few weeks later I bought a very nice machine (fabrics) for less then $200- Does everything and does it well! Now Leather is a whole different animal as far as machines go but the basics are the same. You can't loose by renting a DVD or two from SMARTFLIX . They have a ton of sewing DVD's and if you want to sew leather you will have some basic knowledge! Good Luck!
  14. Drac, The tutorial was fantastic but the finished product was totally impressive! I always find it amazing how some people pick up different things easier then others. (left/right side brain maybe?) lacing has always s l o w e d me down but you just breeze right thru it!
  15. Roo! Awesome find! Thanks for sharing! I really like the decretive letters!
  16. David- Amazing workmanship all around! Just Beautiful! Thanks for posting!
  17. Leathercat Very Very Cool! I really like the eyes and the strap is perfect! Great Job!
  18. That's why the BEEVE rules!
  19. Ok, I'll be the first to admit I don't understand people... E-Bay is a perfect example- Now if I take a BRAND NEW osborne head knife, beat it up, ding it and let it rust a little... It will fetch MORE on e-bay then before the treatment! Now am I crazy or is this e-bay item a doorknob on a stick? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...y0%3D%26fvi%3D1
  20. Spider! Only a little sharpie this time! I used all Fieblings (alcohol based) first I started with Yellow and then I added a little Mahogany and shaded and also went over cuts... Then a little more mahogany and hit some random scales... Added a little light-brown and finished sides... The Sharpie did the eyes Black and some acrylic white highlights. Finished off with Leather sheen...
  21. Wolvie- Brent is right on... Paraffin is hard candle type wax. Melted it is like candle wax but if put on flexible leather it will crack. I teach my scouts that we don't want to "waterproof" leather... The whole reason for using leather in the first place is it's ability to exchange vapor. If you "waterproof" boots for example, you will sweat so much inside that your feet will be wet anyway. The use of leather on motorcycle goods is just for tradition and aesthetics. Vinyl would be a much better choice but you deal with the factor. Truth is that we try to adapt leather to do everything.
  22. Beeza, Beautiful Job! LOVE the lacing! Don't you hate leaving decisions up to the customer... I hope the customer picks a color that will show the beautiful job you did tooling... I think is was Ford who said about his Model "T" -They can have it in any color they want, as long as it's black.
  23. In this month's sales flyer, Tandy had this little Cell Phone Case Kit for $9-. Well, I am always looking for a one night project to keep down the withdrawals... The kit was very nice! Good materials, hardware... I really enjoyed making this!
  24. Hello Jim, Nice work on your website! Have you ever considered making QUIVERS? All you would have to do is make it a little shorter and forget the top!
