  1. Don't remember if i posted this here or not, made this a while go mostly just to see if i could do it turned out rather nice I think. I made it so the hat band can be changed out so that I can have a few different styles for when I get bored!
  2. I use water based dyes for a few reasons, main reason being its safer to use around my dogs then the oil based stuff. And normally speaking I have not had this much problems with a bracelet as I dye all my bracelets front and back as I do not like the back to be unfinished for anything (even purses and wallets) I think it looks unfinished. Might try the burnished part idea wise, though it will be done by hand as I do not use any machines in the making of any and all products that I do make, from leather to chainmail and to the paracord whips I have started to make. Even the stitching is done by hand (and on large projects that does suck up a LOOOT of time lol) Thanks for the ideas though . Normally speaking 2 to three coats of super sheen blocks the leather from dying but some reason I am just having problems with this one bracelet. Though I think (key word think) I have solve this with a third coat of super sheen and a good buffing + coating of aussie condisiner which I forgot to add (I use that on all my leather!)
  3. Mak thanks a bunch for the links they are a great help
  4. 8 to 9 oz veg tan tooling leather prepared as i always do normally dont have this much problem with dye bleed. I get a little untile i add the super sheen to the back side
  5. really cool idea! Hell i never really use the zipper in my wallet anyway (other then a small zipper pocket to keep my keys and a pendent in
  6. I think i am going to have to break down and get a hold of some resolene as i keep seeing it mentioned on the boards here.
  7. Ok i know this has been asked a time or two (and maybe a time or two by me but short term memory problems and all that) but how the bloody hell do I stop a piece from bleeding? I have already put two coats of super sheen on the back of the bracelet http://imgur.com/a/ZD9nu, and yet the damn thing is still bleeding all over my wrist when I am sweating, as I do not want my customers to have this problem (its eco flow antique gel that I use) and I hate not dying the back of any thing as I feel it looks unfinished, so how do I stop the bleed effect, I put a coat on of sheen, let it dry over night, buff the hell out of it, put another coat on, let it dry then buff the hell out of it and yet it still bleeds.
  8. here is the video i said i would share now this is not mine but someone else that does amazing work
  9. Ohh i like that a lot!!!
  10. Charlie its not that difficult to learn i will post a great link to a youtube video that i use as a reference in a little bit. And thanks to you as well broncobuster
  11. I like that and have the same craft aid love the black!!!
  12. Thanks for that colt. I do not use spirit dyes but even with the ecoflow antique gels it could change the color easily. Good point about just making a few for friends then just using it as a stock photo
  13. Ok I have made a leather bracelet that I want to offer up for sale but I would like to make a few blanks. But my question is once a piece of leather is died can you actually tool it and have it show up ok? The two pictures are of the style of bracelet that I want to put up for sale, want to give who ever buys one to have two initals put on the bracelet and that is what would need to be tooled into the leather as the Mexican basket weave braid will already be done (same with the hole with the concho.) SO is it possible to tool on leather that is already dyed and then just hit it again with the dye? As I do not want to do the Mexican leather braid then have to dye everything as it will get dye on the braid work. But I do want to save myself some time so I was thinking of making maybe 4 or 5 "blanks" then simply tool the initials on once I get someone that wants to buy it.
  14. Well i have done a mexican basket weave circle appilque on a book cover so was wondering if i could do it on a leather bracelet, turned out pretty good, and the great thing is if i get bored with the concho in the middle i can change it out easily (have WAYY to many choices on conchos currently!!!) it had way to much free space either side of the applique so figured I would just tool my first and last initial into either side of it.
  15. Thanks got a stupid idea in my head going to try to do the circle applique on a bracelet next!!
  16. Got really bored and just have an itch to make something so made two leather bracelets but wanted to play around with the lacing so did up both of them with a mexican basket weave style two tone lacing.
  17. leather book jacket done by hand. http://imgur.com/gallery/aJM9Z On my phone but that link will or should take you to the finished product.
  18. Look into the nexican round braid its a lot easier then it looks and it uses 4 strands so you could do four different colors
  19. Thanks Tungadude just might help enhance my products
  20. Saddly here in Australia we are not using the newer chips i know this because a day or two ago my card got skimmed bastard or bastards got me for over 150 bucks before the bank stopped.
  21. That was my thinking next thing I have to do is do some research into RF scan blocking material to use as a lining so that assholes can't read someone's credit card chip.
  22. This turned out rather nice, though the next one i make I may just modify it just a hair here and there over all the project turned out great and the pattern that I bought is a pretty good pattern. This (as all of my leather working stuff) was done totally by hand, including the stitching.
  23. Now that i know how to do it (not as hard as I thought it would be) I have actually fallen in love with the mexican basketweave
  24. That is a great idea and may have to give that a go really love your tooling!!!
