Springfield leather has good stuff in smaller sizes. Get yourself a square foot or two of Hermann oak 3 ounce leather (that's a good thickness for wallets). They are a good resource for hobbyists who don't need a whole side of leather. It costs more per foot, but you can buy smaller pieces.

Workin on some orders...

I just started jls's pattern today for a friend. I think Aussie is saying to put relief lines on the inside of the spine. I'm going to try it on mine. That way when you fold them over you have created a relief on the inside. -

What is he best leather for?
bikermutt07 replied to metroplexchl's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
For Hermann Oak, check out Springfield Leather. You can get different size pieces or straps or hides from them. Another option is Wickett and Craig. They will sell single hides to the public. Both are great leathers. -
Which Revolver molds?

I always loved the look and feel of them. I had the ruger 22 conversion, but loading and unloading turned me off to it. Just wanted to make that clear. -
Welcome to the best place for leather learning. It's hard getting started not knowing what's needed or how it's done. A few things to pick up. Wing divider. This will help you make straight lines for your stitching. A stitching pony will also help free up both hands for stitching. I'm pretty new to this craft myself, but I made a wallet tutorial last week to help fellow newbies. If you go to the section "how do I do that", you will find it listed under with wallet. This may be a good starting place. Keep having fun.

I haven't ever done it, but it doesn't seem too difficult. People sell them every day online. I would go down to my favorite gun store and just ask about the pricing and details. Usually, the purchaser already has the shipment information for their end. Dealer, FFL#, and shipping address for the dealership. Once you receive payment, you carry the firearm into your dealer and pay him his fee. Then he takes care of the rest. Or if you have friend to friend sales in Alabama, just sell it to your buddy.

Which Revolver molds?
bikermutt07 replied to Boriqua's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Well yeah, 6 guns. Single action guns kind of suck in my book. They are way too slow on the loading and unloading. My dad has an old high standard 22. I loved that gun. Looks like the old single actions but the cylinder rolls out like a double action. Think how disappointed I was when I grew up and realised none of the single actions do that. I wished someone made one like that. Hence, that's why I like the gp100. I think it looks cowboyish. It would look great in a western rig, and not suck. -

That's a great idea, quirk. If you are thinking western rigs, the reason I like the gp100 is because it resembles the old six shooters. Nothing wrong with being bald, Jeff. Just means I have a big brain. -

I really liked my gp100, but I bet you will outsell them by a landslide with the 686. It's everyone's favorite. It's been made forever, shoots like a dream, everyone's grandpa had one, etc.etc.etc. The sp100 maybe more popular than the gp100, and I would bet the Lcr versions would sell well. Snub nose Taurus seem to have a big following too. Just my thoughts. -
Me too. Sorry.

Nope, 66 Chevy long bed. That's his Paw's truck. I'm a Ford man myself.

Hello everyone
bikermutt07 replied to Knottedleathers's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I had to work in Mountain Home for a few weeks, didn't care much for it. However I did get to visit a pretty fun arcade/go cart place in Boise. -
Safety straps, yes or no?

They are wet formed so they stay holstered pretty well. -

Nice job. -
Thanks. That cork backer idea is definitely a keeper. I just have the craftool diamond awl. I have it pretty sharp but probably not sharp enough. I know Tandy has their own sizing thing going, but any chance you know what pairs best with it? If not it's cool.

*Final Thoughts* The pattern seemed to work well enough. I like the design and am enjoying using the wallet. I used 4-5 ounce and it came out a little thick. But this is on me. Full of cards my wallet is roughly 3/4". That doesn't feel to bad in the front pocket. I haven't been able to stuff much cash into it, but coming up with the cash seems to be a bigger problem then where to put it. The closure strap is a nice touch. Although, it's a little hard to work in the beginning and I'm confident it will loosen up with age and use. If I did it again I may have gone with a single or double snap closure. I thought about it in the beginning but it seemed it would make it too coin pursey. Now seeing the finished product 2 brass snaps would look good with the leather choice. Over all finished dimensions are 4"w x 3"t. I also didn't do The final finish on the wallet or edges. After experimenting, the leather seemed to have plenty of oils packed into it. Water runs off the stuff pretty well. I did do a dry turtle stamp as my final embellishment. My three year old son picked it out. So, in the end I am happy with this build and am looking forward to learning more. My next project will be a card holder for a friend. Anywho, I hope you enjoyed the tutorial and review. Keep having fun.

Wait a minute..... There are different awl sizes to sort out as well? Well that explains a little more of the mystery. Dang it.

Here is my new wallet I can actually use. My 3 year old picked out the turtle. Three usable pockets. Yay! -

I have a drawer. One day I will look in there and see all the lessons I have learned.
