  1. Ha! I would think it would hold that shape. Maybe it was wet formed around something, well, round? Then stitched. I'm only guessing though.
  2. I use a craftool pro and a few others depending on thickness of piece. Have you sharpened it? I sharpen mine like this. Bevel the edge and rub stropping compound on the edge. Then just run your beveller backwards over it several times. Hope this helps.
  3. I'll bite. How does what stay curved?
  4. I'll be making some of these. Thanks Jeff. You sure are a big help to us newcomers around here. I'm working on one of your passport wallets right now. Thanks for all you do.
  5. I like the rustic look of it. I love hearing about obscure tricks that kind of work.
  6. I have no snaps.
  7. I'm gonna test it on scrap first. Then we'll see where to go from there. I'm just tired of my shoulder, elbow, wrists, palms, and fingers wearing out for an, at best, mediocre finish. If I can gain a better than mediocre finish with this rig I'll be overjoyed as a hobbyist. Especially if it takes 2 minutes instead of 20.
  8. I ordered the pro edge motor burnisher. All I know for sure is my appendages will feel a lot better. Hand burnishing is one of the things I like least in this hobby.
  9. According to the posts I've been reading here, 3000 is about right. I have been waiting on funds to purchase my burnisher. Just ordered it a few days ago. I'll post some feed back after giving it a "whirl". On another not I have acquired a second larger motor. But I haven't bothered checking the specs on it yet. It may become a sanding or buffing station.
  10. I say hold on to it and make her a gift someday using the stamps.
  11. I got nothing. If you can find a use for it, whip out that knife.
  12. Now that I think of it, maybe they are the only vegetable tanneries left in the U.S. But, I could be wrong about that.
  13. I could have sworn I read or heard that somewhere. I apologize for spreading misinformation.
  14. Maybe you could do their initials several times in a row.
  15. My bad, I thought horween was a type of leather.
  16. You go for it. Mine certainly didn't come out perfect, but I enjoy pulling it out of my pocket.
  17. I believe w&c and Hermann Oak are the only domestic tanneries left.
  18. Do you have enough space on the ends to cut belt slots in it? A picture would help.
  19. Live and learn. When I was still working in the kitchen I always stained on the porch.
  20. Jls Leather has a sizing pdf for free on his website. As a matter of fact he has lots of free patterns that you may find fun to start building. First thing you should know is have fun.
  21. Well worth the wait, I'm sure.
  22. What if I sit on a stationary bicycle and talk about my political/religious beliefs with some leather work hanging on the handle bars. Titled: "How to Repair Your Garage Door"
  23. The carving looks great to me. I'm sure your mom willbeproud to carry your first project around. I'm not much for critiquing tooling (because I'm not any good at it), but a little brown on those mountains would make your bird pop. Just a thought.
