I doubt it. It would maybe work if everyone posted their zip.

I purchased two backs the other day from weaver. The leather is really pretty, in the 4/5 ounce range, top grain, and chrome tanned. It was advertised as chap leather and the price was right. I jumped on it. Then i realized it was top grain. I made a wallet with a little of it. I tried searching for uses of top grain, but all i find is comparisons to full grain. And Dave from Saddleback telling everyone top grain isn't good enough for his bags (i like his stuff). But, I'm not sure what to do with the rest of it. Can i use it for messenger bags and purses? Is there any durability to top grain? What do y'all use it for? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for your post, Pavel. I take great comfort in life now. I feel I have come full circle in a spiritual sense. My baby boy is gone, but I know he is ok. I know now that this body of flesh is a mere container for life. It was made (by design) to get sick and fall away. The body was never intended to live forever. That's a journey for the soul. I compare it to a lighter. Just a simple bic lighter. It holds and contains fire. But it is nothing compared to the potential of fire in a forest. Just something I take comfort in.

I have 2 of wutas patterns they are nicely made and are inexpensive. Wuta also sent me a free sanding stick that I'm really liking. Jls Leather has some free pdfs for you to download as well. There are a lot of free patterns on this site as well. You just have to dig a little to find them.

It's really a beautiful color. Are you mixing them or applying different colors in layers?

How do I soften and bend a leather Photo Album?
bikermutt07 replied to whistlestop77's topic in How Do I Do That?
I don't have an answer for the problem. But here is how I upload photos from my android phone: Upload them to my Facebook page. Download them from the page to my phone. Come to this site and "click to choose files". It prompts me to pick a folder. I choose Facebook folder and upload. Somewhere along the way Facebook resizes the photos. Hope this helps. -

what to use as backing/stiffener for Tele pick guards?
bikermutt07 replied to veritasleather's topic in How Do I Do That?
Welcome. If you go that route, be careful. Formica can give some nasty cuts. You can use heavy shears to rough cut it. I would use a bench sander to finish it.- 12 replies

Well Formica is pretty thin. It comes in different thicknesses. Someone here posted a telecaster that had the entire body wrapped in leather. It was gorgeous.- 12 replies

What kind of knife are you making a sheath for? Need will dictate the leather. Just starting out is hard, because you buy things that you only later find out you didn't need. We have all done it. Don't be discouraged. Let us know what you are wanting to make the sheath for and we will point you in the right direction. You can always save this piece for something else later.

bikermutt07 replied to veritasleather's topic in How Do I Do That?
I haven't done it, but if were to do it..... I would laminate the leather to a pick guard and maybe just use longer screws. If that's too tall in relationship to the strings a piece of Formica could be substituted. .02- 12 replies

I haven't ever seen one in person so I don't have a clue as to their capabilities(outside of skiving an edge). I'll check them out to see what one could do. But we aren't in that tax bracket anymore. I can see the argument of why the mechanical tools in this trade are expensive. I even believe it. But as a part time hobby a 1000.00 is not justifiable for my "wants".

Sorry for your loss. I have a cheap set of chiseled from Amazon in 4mm. They seem to be fine. I have the Tandy craft tool pro chiseled as well, but they are so small I don't use them. -

Great job. -
Thanks. A grand is pretty rich for a hobby. I think I should have said splitter instead of skiver.

While I have your attention..... Not having any close up experience with a skiver, is it just a blade and rollers with some adjustment? I think I can probably come up with a solution for adjusting it up and down for thickness. If the rollers will push it is there any kind of offeed contraption I should consider? I downloaded Bruce Johnson's instructions on adjusting one, and well other than tight tolerances, I don't see too much in them.
