Decided to post the latest seat.It is for a different seat pan so there was pattern drafting involved....one of my least favorite things to do.I ordered my leather from Wickett and Craig. It arrived a day ahead of schedule so I got an early startHere is the first day's work.The seat pan with the patterns attached to check fit.early work on the seat back. Day two, The seat back was pretty much finished.

Barry, Beautiful site, I have all your bevelers, and use nothing but them. I have a suggestion....How about putting together a list of the tools used on the extremely small Sheridan work that you do. Like the belt you had at Columbus. I'm still in awe of that belt and would love to own tools capable of doing Sheridan of that size. Love the site David Theobald

Hey sorry for not responding, I just saw this thread.... I use Leather Balm with Atom Wax on my tan seats.... Neat Lac for the black ones just to prevent crocking.... rubbing off of the black dye. I will sometimes add a final, final finish of Fiebings' Aussie leather conditioner. Dave

Practice, practice, practice....do those three letters about 10-20 times on scrap leather, you'll be ready to give it a shot on your final piece....NOTHING gives that custom touch like hand cut and beveled lettering in a type face that is totally custom.... check out dafont.com for really custom lettering that is free. In a word .... yes. It will cause some dye to move around a bit. It especially happens to antiquing paste. Be sure to put a resist on anything you don't want to pick up surrounding stain or antique.Black is especially bad for moving around with leather balm. I have taken up rubbing neat lac into my seats using cloth when I have black on the seat.Thanks for the kind words on the seatDave Thanks Tomhaven't seen you around in a while.

The finish was all Fiebings spirit dye. A combination of medium brown, saddle tan and buckskin, Then Fiebings antiquing paste to accent the tooling. I think I used Sheridan paste for that. A final coat of Fiebings Leather Balm with atom wax and it is finished. How long it lasts is kind of up to the owner. It will need cleaning with saddle soap and polishing with some sort of paste. I usually tell folks to use Kiwi neutral shoe polish. It is a product that they can find at Walmart. Dave

Hey Troy, I was waiting on the pan because the customer was sending it to me. The pans I use are the "West Eagle #632148 Slim Line S seat pan narrow". In this instance the customer supplied that exact pan to me. I think they retail for about $60 - $70 dollars. I know they advertise in The Horse. Dave
