Completed my first holster!
David replied to ApexPredator's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thanks Jason, Sometimes the obvious escapes some. 110 degrees can be achieved with a floor heat outlet or a hair dryer. But a cooking oven or microwave....will be bad news for the average leather worker. I watched Jessie James ride his copper chopper for 45 minutes without touching the handlebars....but I don't think I'll follow his experienced example. But all this shouldn't take away from an excellent post and a really nice working holster. -

Great holster, But keep your wet leather away from heating appliances....maybe you can lay it over heat outlet in your floor but stay away from ovens. I've shared this before but here goes again. I decided to "dry" my first piece of leather work it was a checkbook.. notice I said WAS. After drying it looked like and was about the size of a potato chip. Let those projects dry on their own. Wonderful work and congrats on the sale. You saddlers just knock me out with the work that you do. Keep sharing your projects. Dave Theobald http://www.theobaldleather.com

Hey Roger, Very nice solo seat....nice crisp carving as usual. Do you ever use anitquing on your seats? I notice this one doesn't have any antiquing paste at all on it. Just curious. The seat looks great without it. Dave http://www.theobaldleather.com

Roger, What are you using to do the detail in the feathers? It looks really good. Dave Theobald http://www.theobaldleather.com

Ahh guess I should have said dye not stain. I use those words interchangably and I guess I shouldn't. Although for the life of me I don't know the differene. The notebook will go to Sucker Punch and will be used as an "idea" book for customers.Dave Theobaldhttp://www.theobaldleather.com Lots of rubbing ....Davehttp://www.theobaldleather.com

I tried a new stain on this. It is a Fiebings All-In-One called Mahogany. Not too sure about this one....it is rather thick. Too thick to shoot through an airbrush. Tends to be a bit streaky in my opinion. Dave Theobald http://www.theobaldleather.com

Russ,You are definately talking the Beeza style of making seats, so I'll let him tackle this question....If you like I'm sure Roger would respond to an email. Or better yet respond here so we all can learn.Dave Theobaldhttp://www.theobaldleather.com One other thing, I use no glue in my seats. There is no side piece just a front and back and they just meet, they don't overlap.Dave

Russ, I wrote the other one. It was called "Jesus seat from start to finish." Don't know if they can be restored or not; but if you have questions, just drop me a note. Dave Theobald http://www.theobaldleather.com

Paul, Beautiful job as always. Is the stitching hand or machine? Very nice clean work, love the diamond quilted look. Dave Theobald http://www.theobaldleather.com -
I want to agree with this post, I also get all my leather from Tandy. We have a local store and I am able to look through their selection of hides. I use 9051-01 which is a trimmed double shoulder. Thanks and nice seat.... Dave Theobald http://www.theobaldleather.com

I have a real easy solution for your problem....It is caused by that last little bit of moisture evaporating from your leather. My solution is to lay my piece face down on my workbench....My workbench surface is granite. I place a poly pondo board on top of it and then one of tandy's 12" square pieces of granite on top of that. I leave it like that until I'm ready to make my seat/binder/whatever. It comes out flat as can be. Dave http://www.theobaldleather.com

I'm making a binder for Sucker Punch. It will hold photos of seats that we've done and also line art that I have created. Should act as an idea book for customers. Dave Theobald http://www.theobaldleather.com

I finished these over the weekend. After I finally got some 1/4" kangaroo lace. These are now ready to send to Sucker Punch to get their assesment. Dave Theobald http://www.theobaldleather.com

My guess is that he sewed it inside out and then flipped it to this configuration. Dave
