Duc...very interested in learning more. I've downloaded inkscape, but maybe a primer would be good. Care to PM me when you get a minute? Thanks! Kevin

Glue Jar
smirak replied to Boriqua's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I bought the glue pot that is Teflon coated and like it a lot...however, had I seen this post before, I would have bought multiples of these...I'll probably buy some of these too. -
Ferdinand Ferdco Bull 900B Sewing Machine For Sale
smirak replied to Tomahawkportland's topic in Old/Sold
If I lived anywhere near Portland, that wouldn't still be for sale. GLWS. Kevin -
Yes Lumpen...She was with me last night. I learned long ago to not mess with her stuff unless she's around.

My wife's a quilter. A few years back, she bought a product called AccuQuilt Go to help her cut multiple patterns for her quilts. The AccuQuilt is a pressure roller that you sandwich your fabric between the cutting die and a cutting mat. Roll the handle and it pulls the die/fabric sandwich through and cuts the fabric. Anyway, I thought I could maybe use this for leather cutting repetitive patterns like billfolds, key fobs, etc...I went to the website yesterday and their specs says it will cut through one layer of leather. I instant chatted them asking what the thickness of that layer of leather would be...they didn't know. What do you do? You go home and try it out on your wife's machine...it cuts through 2-3oz like butter. I doubled up the 2-3 oz and it didn't miss a beat. I've got some 8 oz at home that I'm gonna try next, and I'll repost back. I also emailed the company about a custom die and I'll advise too. I have 0 affiliation with this company, and if I didn't already own one, I probably wouldn't go this route. But, if you can talk your wife into getting one for her, then you can use it for double duty... www.accuquilt.com if anyone is interested. Just thought I'd share. Kevin

No worries...our economy needs stimulating anyway! That said, CS Osborne is an American manufacturer. I think they make some pricking irons, but I'm not sure. For fun, Google Bruce Johnson leather tools. He's a collector and seller of vintage leather tools, mostly of American origin, though he usually has some Blanchard tolls as well. Not cheap, but worth every penny he charges. He's also a member here and you can find him and PM here if you have questions.

It's not that we are trying to bash you for your comments. I'm born and raised in the USA, deep south. I have no ties to any country other than this one. But, your comment about child labour and funding terrorism were out of line. I'm not sure of any US made stitching irons, though there could have been some old ones back in the day. For the money, you surely can't beat a good seat of irons from goodsjapan or leathercrafttools. As for "American Made" products, you can't assume that the product is made by "some successful, family raising person with a retirement plan and a benefits package". You'll find a really good group of folks here, myself included I like to think, but you must be willing to take it on the chin sometimes too! I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's absolutely nothing wrong with a tool made in china, japan, france, etc...if it gets the job done for you, there it is.

I guess it depends on what type of terrorism we are funding in the US? You know we hear much about the caliphate trying to establish themselves in Hong Kong or Tokyo you know...
-
This isn't a comment to stir the pot. Unless you want to spend the money on a Blanchard or Dixon set of irons, I think you'd be surprised that you are "funding terrorism" with any other stitching irons. Also, you can get the terrorism funded stitching irons/chisels pretty cheap FWIW. Sorry, not trying to start a rant, but your comment about child labour / terrorism is just funny. And, as I can tell by your spelling of "labor", you aren't from America (most likely), so what type of items do you like to buy? I would say "buy American", but I think that's out? Is it buy all English stuff?

Hi Dustin... I'll be in N Canton in a couple weeks. Want to come out for a visit. Do you operate a retail side of the supply side, or is it all mail/online ordering? For example, if I needed/wanted some supplies/tools that I can order online, could I buy in your store and take them home with me? Thanks! Kevin

My First Flask....
smirak replied to Jon P's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I'd argue your argument and say that, plus the razorback on there...that's what really diminishes the value and overall aesthetics of the pc! JK...from a Miss State fan, I had to give you a little ribbing... Good looking flask. Kevin -
Lots of characters for sure...like you. I can't even understand your posts sometimes because you use ALL CAPS and little to no punctuation...that's what my 8 yr old does sometimes for reference.

I've got the Springfield finesse tools and they are pretty good for 6spi. I also have the tandy ones that Nigel reviewed in both 2.5 and 3.0 mm. The only issue, and Nigel makes note of this, is that there isn't a 2 prong one. However, for the price, I'm just going to buy another 4 prong of each and cut off two prongs.

Ummm Aaron, I'll take a round knife too

If you're talking about the "fuzzy" side, then yes, that's normal. Some leathers will have more "fuzz" and some less.

Old Leather Tools Beard-Gore-Hack Barth-King Etc
smirak replied to Junkyarddog's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
I don't know what your budget is (or isn't), but my opinion would be to keep all the tools for now to see what you like. It's possible you have doubles of some stuff, like pear shaders or basketweave tools. You could keep what you've got, get the rest of the stuff you want/need on the cheap and then start selling off what you don't use/like. -
Might want to be a little more specific about what you didn't like? From that one picture, it looks like standard ole veg tan leather.

I'm no expert, but I use posterboard. I get it in 11x14 sheets from the local store. I just tape my pattern to it and cut around the pattern. If it's a printable pattern, I'll use the thickest card stock my printer will handle and call it good. Other than that, I've got a colleague with a couple 3D printers that I haven't taken advantage of yet...

Steve...good luck. Had both of mine done (R in 2002 and L in 2008). I've got an MRI on both on the 19th because they are acting up again.

Just because I'm from the US and don't understand this: "they were not a patch on mine was chuffed to bits" please explain As to the edge dye, I've got some "real" edge dye from Fiebings, but I usually just grab whatever dye I used for the project. Kevin

My wife is a quilter, so I've used quite a few. My go to is a 45mm Olfa, but for long, straight cuts, the 60 is hard to beat. You can get an Olfa at micheals or hobby lobby with a coupon.

Holster Lining... Suede Or No Suede?
smirak replied to GaryNunn's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Umm, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a polymer handgun either I've got two currently... -
I'm new here and I bought a groover. I don't think I've used it. I usually just use my wing dividers to make a line and use that.

No problem at all! Only reason I guessed it was because I was wasting time at work one day and stumbled on that video I was talking about.
