  1. Just got a letter from Wickett & Craig, they are putting a .30 sq ft surcharge on all leather as of May 1, Utility skirting that I used for repairs used to cost 80.00 side now 109.00. I don't know where it will stop. Gas just went up again here, was 3.79 now 3.85...
  2. Bruce was going through some old posts and seen this one and was wondering if you could discribe or draw a picture on how you do this type of lacing. I have been doing this and it never comes out this good looking? Could you post some kind of instructions, hole size and spacing also? I like to lace the skirts simply because when you throw the saddle on the horse your hand don't slip through the skirts and drop the saddle.. lol Thanks Randy
  3. I just move my mini frig over next to the machine when I sew skirts or chaps. Just the right height and the beer is close by..LOL
  4. Was the water in the tank fairly clean, if so you may not be in too bad shape. Let it dry for a couple days, bring it in at night. Assess the damage after it is dry. I might suggest a complete tear down to inspect the tree to make sure it is not damaged. That way all the parts can be cleaned and oiled as needed. It may have some water spots caused by the water in the tank but a good cleaning and scrubing should help. Let us know how it turns out and maybe a picture or two.
  5. I have the brass loop staples if you need some pm me and we can work out something.
  6. Yea, but there is no party Friday or Sat night. Whats a man to do, go to the Mint bar and pay for my drinks!
  7. In the first place, . . . he had a Glock, . . . one of the singularly most dangerous firearms ever developed. That is a very bold statement, can you explain? Considering that 80% of all law enforcement officers in the US carry a Glock and the rest are split up between the other manufacturer. You must be aware of something the rest of us are not? Just asking. I have been a firearms Instructor for over 20 of my 29 years in LE and never had anyone in my department every have a AD like that one with our glocks. As a trainer I feel the Glock is one of the best weapons systems out there. It is apparent the trigger was pulled. How safe can a gun be that will not discharge until the trigger is pulled? Randy
  8. I would seek out a plastic company that does injecton molding in your area. They may be able to guide you to some company that can do what you are wanting. Also an engraving company that does brass plate engraving for the printing and greeting card industry maybe able to do what you are wanting.
  9. I just have to vent a little, just got my booklet for the Rocky Mountian Trade show in Sheridan, Wy. The booklet it's self is full of bad printing if you can call it that there are all these little boxes where the words a subpost to be. And then they are having the awards banquet on Thursday night, thats right the same night as Sheridan Leather Outfiters has thier reception! How can we be two places at once. As far as I can tell there is nothing going on Friday or Sat. night. Whats up with that? Have just about decided not to go this year. Sorry I'll shut up now.... Randy
  10. The picture just don't help answer your question. If you can take the seat off and show the underside it would help. But if it is just stapled on you can cover and stretch the leather and re-staple it. Without the old cover to take apart and use as a pattern you are just winging it. You could lay out some paper and make a pattern of the top, sides and the front and back and figure where to sew it together at. I would go for this method as you would have a better luck getting it to fit. Use an electic or power stapler to put it back on with. start in the middle and pull it tight as you staple, work out any puckers as you go. This is just general info like I said the picture don't help much with design. RC
  11. I use a dremel with a small cut off wheel that I cut the burr off then the washer come off and you can drive the rivit out. When removing Blevin buckles use the cut off wheel to remove the burr and washer, pull off the first layer of leather then use the cut off wheel to cut the rivit off flush with the blevin buckle and then drive the rest out with a punch and hammer. A steel plate with a hole drilled in it underneath helps a bunch. I will not use a drill and bit as I has one break on me one time and drove the broken bit through my hand, OUCH! Randy
  12. Complete instructions for making domers are in the Stohlman book, "leather Tools" on page 80
  13. Personally, I don't know what a Kindle is or who Kate Spade is so I guess I am happy being ignorante of both....
  14. The cobra because of the excellent customer serice by Steve.
  15. Here is another sourse http://www.closedcellfoams.com/neoprene.html
  16. When I started making ankle holsters I too made them out of the neopreme materail, I found a suppier on the web. What I found is that the neopreme materail wore out quickly. I went to using chap leather, I found that it conforms to the ankle just as good as the neopreme and lasts a lot longer. I have a pattern posted somewhere here. I will look and see if I can find it. Randy Here is the link http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=16233 Here is a source for the neopreme I would suggest the 3mm or thicker. http://www.seattlefabrics.com/neoprene.html?gclid=CLTm5LbNw6cCFYjt7QodBXpWEQ#Neoprene
  17. I totally agree with what has been said. I have tried almost all the knives out there and several different blades. Tired the cerimac, colbolt steel, both of those served me well. My second favorit knife was the Henley which was a heavy knife but a work of art. Also no one mentioned the Chuck Smith knife ol'smoothy. Never owned one but tried one at the shows acouple times and it was a very good knife. Then came along my now very good friend Paul Zalack from leather wranglers. I first tied one of his knifes at the show in Columbus a few years back and the rest is history. I can cut and carve so much better just because of the advances he has made in metalurgy in the blade. I also like the fact the blade is longer than most. I guess it all boils down to what you can afford. If you cannot afford a Leather Wranglers then go for something a little cheeper and then trade up as time and money allows. But if you want the best. It's Leather Wranglers. I now own 3 of his knives. And love them all... Randy
  18. I have done a couple gun shows, and I must say did not do so good. Most I found are looking for a bargin. I handed out a lot of cards, got a couple calls later but for the most part it was a bust. I did sell a couple CC holsters and a couple ancle holsters for the smaller guns but never got close to covering my expenses. I was not selling guns just leather stuff. I had a lot of traffic at my booth, with lots of intrest but the money was just not there. Not sure if I would do another one. Randy
  19. I just got some utility skirting from weaver leather to do repair work with, I think it was around 85.00 plus shipping. You might also check with Springfield Leather.
  20. For items that I make over and over I use a pattern materail I get from Hobby Lobby. It's a thich plasitc sheet, I think it says pattern material or something to that effect. It comes as large as 18x24 sheets. Also use stiff paper cardboard that I get from the local feed store. Each pallet of feed has a stiff paper on the pallet before the feed is stacked on it. They are large enough to get a chap patten out of.
  21. There are plans for the draw down stand in the Al Stohlman saddlemaking ency. V-1

  23. Tan Kote or anything simular will work. Really don't need much of a finish.
