Nope, no lathe, So I'm making a mold by hand. I glued some 1 by 4 s together and now am in the process of planing and sanding it into the shape of a barrel. Tom

Yes they work quite well. I now am the proud owner of a rechargeable Dremel Brand tool. It's small light and can hold up to 1/8" bits. Tom

the leather came from Austrailia. Thats all I know. I got the whole hide for 29 bucks or so. Its nice stuff though. I can try and find out what it is. Tom
-
Dont feel bad Roo. I'm still wrestling with it. If some one looked in my window it probably looks like 2 monkeys humping football.
-
Not really sure what kind of leather it is. It was 29 dollars for the whole hide. Tom

I'm probably not the first one to think of this but thought I'd post it anyway. I was looking for patterens on the web and found some clip art I liked. I just zoomed the picture till it was size I wanted and then placed a peice of printer paperon the screen and lightly traced it. Worked pretty good. Tom

Well here is my first try at braiding a whip. I think I have the gist of it. Now I just need to practice braiding over the core. And try and make a better core. I'll use a rawhide core on the next one and see how that works. I believe I learned quite a bit with this one though. Still cant get the hang of the turks head knot. Tom

Just wanted to say thank you for the link. I'm sure it will be helpful. I've started making the whip and so far it's going well, I think. I also found out you dont have to try and keep everything super tight as you go. I'm doing 3 or 4 wraps then tighening it. seems to working so far. Is that what thyour book is saying? I hate to have to start over, but I will if need be. Thaanks again Joe. Tom

I'm trying to learn how to braid a whip and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good web site that might offer tutorials on the subject. Tom
-
No it doesn't have the notch like the clovis points do. But the edge is serrated "knapped" all the way around. And it's still sharp. I found 3 others like it but smaller. Only about 2" long. Tom
-
I gave it a try using the tutorial Drac posted and it was really fun. Gonna try and make a whip now. Tom
-
Great tutorial. Thank you. I wont be happy till I try it now. Thanks again, Tom

The guy at USC Archeology dept. told me it was about 10,000 years old. Give or take a few hundred years. He said it was used as a knife/spear/everything tool. Whatever it was used for I bet the owner was mad about losing it. I've found others on my property but this one is the largest, about 4". I put it on a handle just for the heck of it. Tom

The bucket is fallout from the barrel. Seemed like the thing to do. Think I'll try and build an out house. Tom

I keep trying to load this pic and am having heck of a time. I probably have pictures stuch all this web site. Oh well.

I just sorta guessed at the angle and bevel of the staves. We'll see how it works out. If not at least I'll have fun trying.Tom Here it is glued together.
