  1. I was in the Army when I did the jump thing. I was with the 82nd Airborne Division. Long time ago. About 38 years. Just had one too many bad landings. You win some, you lose some. But I had a ball doing it. Tom
  2. Don't have anything to post as I have been in slow mode lately. Still dealing with the spine problems. I guess jumping out of planes wasn't such a good idea after all. The pain pills work great but make me lazy. The ones the VA gave me don't do a thing and the ones my civilian doc gave me turn me into a mushroom. Got to get the Doc's to give me something a little lighter. And to all you Veterans out there I'd like to say thank you. Tom
  3. This is about all I've been able to do lately. My back is still messed up. Gonna go to the VA today and get my records and try something else. This is the latest pattern from the Skiver and I've been wanting to do it ever since it came out. I think I have a pretty good start on it. I didnt think that line on the top left would show up quite that much. Bummer. I'll find somebody to give it to. Tom
  4. I used leather weld to glue it in place first. Then stitched it. Tom
  5. I've been laid up so I haven't been able to do anything. Bad spinal problems. I hate it. Any ways here is an older project that I've been meaning to post. Its a money belt. I put a zippered liner in it. The real tough part was all the sewing. I hand stitched all of it. Tom
  6. Cant decide to use this for the front or back. I really want to have their name on the front. And it looks more like a bible cover than a photo album cover. I wont know till I get the other pieces how I will use them. I think I'll make two or three different pieces and then decide. I want to incorporate some basket weave into the project somehow. I like the idea of using the basket weave on the spine. Tom
  7. As a first attempt I'd say your on the right track. Basket weave is pretty tough. At least for me it is. I have a real hard time keeping it off the border. Keep on posting. Tom
  8. I got the interior done and the paint and stain now all I have to do is lace it up. Tom I just noticed two little dots I need to touch up.
  9. Heres where I'm at so far. Have to let that dry before I go any further. Need to hit the green again. The hard part is going to be the edges. I want to antique it but I don't want it to look too old. I still want nice bright colors. We'll see what happens next. Thinking of using Fiebings Mahogany. It's not too dark. Oh yeah, I got the easle free with a box of cereal. Tom
  10. I really like this pattern. It's a Craftaid I got at Tandy's. Thinking about green on blue or blue on green, something colorful. Celtic is one of my favorite styles. This is before and after a little cleanup. Still needs more though. Tom
  11. Sign says "All tool molesters will be killed an eaten." Tom
  12. Been there done that. Not to worry though. I finally found mine about a year later. So hang in there. Tom
  13. Well I cant seem to get the tool into smaller places. Could I see some examples please. Tom
  14. My cross doesn't look a thing like the one on the envelope, but so far I like it. I had to make the bottom leg short to fit the piece of scrap I was using but you get the point. It's about 2 inchs longer. Tom
  15. I have to agree with James. I too like the matted background. But I have never used the bargrounder. So what do I know. Well back to on my photo album. Tom
  16. Will do Art. Thanks. Now that I have a pocket all I have to do is figure out what to do with it. Maybe make some kind of pouch out of it. Tom
  17. Well here's the dried piece. Has a dark line where I clamped it down. Bummer. I tried to smooth out the flap with a bone folder. It's a 6 oz. leather. Tom
  18. It looks kinda wet and spotty still. I hope it doesn't dry like that, with the spots I mean. After it dries I post a pic of the mold. Tom
  19. Well step one is done. I found an album I think I can work with. Had to go through about a hundred to find this one. It has a window in the front cover that I don't like but I think I can deal with that. The invitation envelope had a seal on the flap. It is some kind of cross. Going to try and incorporate that in some how. Tom
  20. Thank you Deb, Ever bit is of help to me. I'm going tomorrow to look at different photo albums at the craft store to see what I want to use. 3 ring type or what ever. I want them to be able to add more pages as they grow in the relationship. Thanks again. Tom
  21. That is neat. I didn't see the words either till you said to look at the smooth part. Magic letters. I like it. Tom
  22. I got some great ideas form different thread in here. One idea I like is having it zippered close. Another one is to have a couple small pockets or slots on the inside to put a few things. Also thought about using a snap and a strap to close it. But the first thing is to find a chemical free photo album to start with to protect the photos. I have less than a month to do this in so I need to get cracking on it. Still looking for other ideas but I'm sure when I start the project will tell me what to do. Tom
  23. I could never get those letters that nice. It must have taken a lot of patience to get those letters like that.I have to keep going back to it to look at the lacing. Everything just sorta flows. I think this pay it forward is great. We get to share with our leather working buddy's and the idea factor is off the chart. Well done. It's a wallet. Right? Tom
