  1. You can have a look at the ones me and a friend made. They are on my blog at http://leatherbyjohan.blogspot.com/2008/08/rons-leggins.html We had no pattern and just developed our own with brown papaer...
  2. Brilliantly done tutorial! I am going to point to it from my blog!
  3. Ask you Tandy Manager about the double shoulder specials: 9051-50 somewhere soon for only $1.99/sq foot - I think that should be a real good deal ....
  4. I saw this idea in a photo and just had to attempt to make my own! Here is the results:

    X-1

Last week I taught an advanced tooling class and ended up with my own demo peace that you can see here. The first one shows some dye around the design to add contrast and the second shows the piece after a coat of X-1 dressing. I cannot believe that when my supply is up, I will not be able to get hold of more. Any of you maybe a chemist that can analyse a sample and tell me what is inside? I wonder why it was discontinued! It does a wonderful job of highlighting a carving without adding extra color!
  6. Hi everybody, Tandy is looking for new ideas for expanding the range of 3D stamps they have. So if you have any 3D stamps you would like to see, post your ideas here or email me (just descriptions or you can send drawings as suggestions too) at leatherworker@gmail.com It would be nice to expand that range of stamps at last!
  7. Tandy still carries a full line of colors ... http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/search/site+search+results.aspx?sectionpath=3&processor=content&p_keyword=9120&x=0&y=0
  8. I am not much of a woodworker - so I did some very rough engineering to come up with my braiding post. But it works very well: I can slide it under any chair I have a few hooks at various heights so that I can sit upright depending on the chair I am at I can collapse it for transport
  9. With most projects I seal the grain side with the Satin Sheen and then apply the Dr Jacksons on the flesh side so that it penetrates from there....
  10. the Eco-Flo color charts I made 30 months ago still have the green qquite vibrant - I will try to remember to take pics tomorrow and show you a "then" and "now" photograph. But even so, eventually all the non brown pigments will fade faster than the rest ...
  11. Here is my toolbox lid with a Then and Now photo - I made and photographed the box in April 2004 and you can see in the pic I took today, how much the Fiebings Spirit based dye has faded. This was kept indoors all the time - no direct sunlight. The browns seem to hold up fairly OK, but now the brighter colors.
  12. Siegel sells them for $690.00 I have one (got it for a few bucks from an old saddler that taught me hand sewing.) - it has to be super sharp and then it works really well. Look here to see it.
  13. The problem I have with the flash is the size of the pictures - I tried to look at the vinagroon holster this morning and it was ten times the size of my screen. How do we limit the flash picture shower size to screen size? I had the hardest time getting to the navigate buttons to get out of it .... Either that or we need to somehow force people to post pictures not bigger than 640 across...?!? Dunno the solution - just throwing out suggestions...
  14. Same thing here - no debate (there are other threads for that) - just show us nice projects you dyed with spirit based dyes. (Remember the old Fiebings antique stains were also water based.)
  15. Let's not debate Eco-Flo vs Spirit based here. Let us just show articles made with waterbased. I'll start another similar topic for spirit based dyes. Here are three more projects done with the water based stuff ...
  16. Eco-Flo Acrylic white - I found acrylics the only option for white on leather.
  17. Hi everyone! Too much talk about the stuff, and too little to see. I want to urge all of you working with Eco-Flo dyes and stains to post some of your work here, even if you posted them elsewhere already, so that we can get an idea what can be done with the waterbased dyes. I will start with a few postings here. Most of these are articles I made - some just doodling, some actual projects. The Belt was colored by a 15 year old scout, Wil. He followed Tony Lair's book about the Eco-Flo dyes to come up with this excellent project.
  18. When you visit me, have a look at the panel on the door where peoples' hands push. I did that with the new EcoFlow antique gel. It gets direct sun a few hours every day - it faces east, and it is as good as new. I will go see if I took pics of it when it was newly made and then I will take pics to show what it looks like now.
  19. One thing I am a very firm believer in, is testing. I would pick a prime piece of leather, dye it as described, Doug, seal it, and then take it outside and hose it down, like a good rain shower. Do not overdo it, but see how the sealant holds up. I have heard of mug makers sealing with SuperSheen and other mug makers sealing with molten beeswax - these could also be options for helms. And then there is Tankote, that seems to seal against newly made belts bleeding off on clothes.
