    stropping

I don't mean to trump a master like Mr. Troy, but I have used cermanics for quite some time (short compared to Mr. Troy) but I actually found that you need to work on the C. blades when you buy them. In fact, case in point, we went through a "dry run" on Oak leaves in preparation for an upcoming class through our guild. One of our members had just bought a C. Blade and he had a really hard time cutting through his leather 1/2 back. Today, at our O.F.C. meeting this morning, ScissorMedic showed up and actually worked on the C. Blade for this member and when he went and cut the leather....he went almost all the way through the letter. Now, ScissorMedic says that he cannot actually sharpen the C. Blade, but he works off the grinding marks and gets it polished. I hope this helps. Greetings from Round Rock, Texas ~ Remember: Stop & Strop! ~

  10. I found this ad while surfing the internet, just in case someone in the area needs work. Apprenticeship in Custom Leather Goods (Mt. Airy) Reply to: see below Date: 2009-01-15, 3:04PM EST SEEKING APPRENTICE CUSTOM LEATHER ACCESSORIES Arleen Olshan has worked in custom leather accessories-sandals, belts, handbags, and boxes- for over 40 years, is seeking an apprentice to learn the craft and assist in the business. Arleen has a following in the women’s and gay communities nationally, in addition to local craft shows in the Philadelphia area. Do you like making things with your hands? Do you enjoy sewing-either by hand or on a sewing machine? Are you aspiring to a career in art or a craft? Do you enjoy craft and music festivals-would you like to work in these kinds of environments? If you have answered yes to these questions, please call, let’s talk. I prefer to teach one or two people at a time-as I have limited space in my studio. Arleen-215-242-5074

  14. I appreciate all of the comments. I did a notebook a while back for myself and saw an ad at the Orthopedic's office that intrigued me involving a runner's event. Anyways, it included everything that has to do with Austin. The music, bats, runner's and capital. I came out pretty good, I thought. I like to do designs like this that catch my eye. Note: Yes, this is one of my Stolman knifes. I have a 1/4 inch flat blade that I found on eBay for $6 bucks. Thanks to ScissorMedic, it was grinded down and sharpened to a micron, I believe. It is very sharp and works like a charm after being stroped. I have emailed Barry King because I was talking with ScissorMedic (who owns one) and I would like to try one. I also like the SK3 and have emailed Pablo. Since I do this as a hobby, I cannot afford to throw money on everything I like. Maybe I will when some of my stuff gets sells (hahaha). Thanks to all! 20. Here is a good one for you leatherworkers. Do you use a "sewing awl?" If so, when, or what situations? What is the theory behind this thing they call a "sewing awl?" Greetings from Round Rock, Texas ~ Remember: Stop & Strop! ~
  21. I appreciate the education. I guess the "stitching wheel" kind of does the same thing. I referred to your suppliers and yes they are very expensive, so I guess until I go into business I will stick to my "stitching wheel." Thanks to all those who responded. Greetings from Round Rock, Texas ~ Remember: Stop & Strop! ~
  22. The Arts Council here in State told me that they didn't know what I was talking about. He then directed me to a private school for that kind of instruction??? Greetings from Round Rock, Texas ~ Remember - Stop & Strop ! ~
  23. I get my extra pieces from my Tandy store. I don't buy kits anymore, I just use the pattern that I made and put the thing together with the magnet pieces. I really don't like the clip piece, plus, I never have that much money on me. Hot hands! Good luck! Greetings from Round Rock, Texas ~ Remember: Stop & Strop! ~
  24. I am currently making a "market" type bag and I bought from the scrap bin at Tandy some light (thin) chrome tan that look like wood grain (sort of, chestnut color) for my lining. I hope it works. Good luck and report bag any success you have on projects after receiving advice here. Greetings from Round Rock, Texas ~ Remember: Stop & Strop! ~
