  1. Abram ~ Welcome to the forum!
  2. Welcome to the forum and greetings from Central Texas.
  3. Gringobill Don't knock yourself out of the game that quick. You finished it and it looks better than some I have seen for sale by many others, so be proud! I have been wanting to make one for myself, after all I make leather products, but I am just too darn scared to take on such a big project (for me). Go on, keep talking about your project....and be proud.

I thought I saw one listed on here within the last week or so. I also have a friend on Facebook that has one for sale. Send me your address via a PM and I will try to connect you both, if you are still interested.
  5. I agree with TimD.....nice job for your first! And it being your first, I know what how time can be spent spinning the wheels and spending money. Either way, be proud!

    SOLD.....they go pretty quick. Sorry
  7. Holly, if you need any more, I have a few can loan you for your class. Just send me an address. Happy Carving!
  8. Include the thickness of your bars when you make your patterns. I have learned (quite quickly) to cut your leather larger than intended for unforeseen miscalculations. If I was to make another set for my bars, I would probably take the time to remove the bars and wet mold them directly to your bars. Something to think about......good luck and don't forget to post a picture!
  9. Hidepounder = Mr. Bob Park.
  10. Top right hand corner...use the search button......you'll find a bunch of threads regarding edges, but Mr. Bob Park's solution has just about the best recipe for your issue. Good luck
  11. Greetings Lev Welcome to the forum!
  12. I use two different tools. Barry King sells a 'scales' tool that is shaped like an upside down 'V'. I have also used a 'mulesfoot' to do scales when I teach my large mouth bass figure carving class. I also read in one of Al Stohlman's books where he used a scaled veiner tool to stamp scales on a fish. I haven't done a knife sheath, so I do not know how this would work for you, but if you check out my Facebook or blog pages, you will see the scales belt that I recently completed. It might be what you are looking for. Either way, good luck.
  13. Tandy Leather in Austin had some white chrome tan. You can probably glue it down to a light veg tan lining and you'll have a white belt.
  14. Peter Main showed me his during a recent visit to his shop. I looks just like this one, but he had it wrapped in gray duck tape, if I remember correctly. I like the grip tape you have on your model. I hope it works well.
  15. To keep the thickness down.....what ounce do you use for your interior panels? Very nice work thanks for sharing!
  16. Unique for sure!

I just sold one yesterday, but I thought someone posted a new one on here for $850. I cannot remember exactly.
  18. Try www.lasergiftcreations.com OR www.phillipsengraving.com
  19. Since you probably do not have access to a local Tandy Store, I did some research on a new site that was directed to me and found this resource for you as a downloadable file. Enjoy!! http://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/p-1135-the-art-of-hand-sewing-leather-by-al-stohlman.aspx
  20. I am just getting ready to help our one of new forum members who was inquiring about hand stitching. Since she lives probably nowhere near a Tandy store, the book is available on this site.
  21. That is outstanding news!
  22. First, welcome to the forum and greetings from Central Texas, USA! Secondly, just sit back and search our forum for tons and tons of information to include hand stitching. I hand stitch all of my work and have found the Al Stohlman hand stitching book to be invaluable. As for your tack inspirations, we have a ton of members on here that would probably be more than helpful to you as you get underway. Best of luck!
  23. This site maybe new to most of you, but I just learned of it on my facebook site by one of my Canadian friends. I checked it out and wow....the information is good for any crafter. Enjoy! www.leathercraftlibrary.com
  24. The Tandy store in Austin run by Dennis Guerra is awesome. My understanding is that he ships orders all over the country. When I am there he is constantly taking phone orders and putting boxes together. Give them a try. On a side note, I would give Springfield Leather or one of other sponsors a try. I personally know that Springfield will want to know what your application is so they can connect you with the right product. Their button is listed above in the banner. Good luck and sorry you experienced this. Good luck.
  25. I guess you could use the acquired 'stiffener' in the areas where it will make contact with the holsters to prevent them from wearing out. I do have to say many, many years ago before I became involved in leather, I had my duty belts and holster made by an old guy. My belts were made with two strap pieces glued together equaling 8-10 oz and stitched, no liner. They have held up for over 20 years and still kicking. I use the same concept now when I make my belts. I hope this helps.
