No guys. If you write @Northmount, or any other person's name he should get a notification that he has been mentioned in a thread and his presence is required It doesn't work for me either. Not on here nor on other forums which use it

can ya eat them? are their hides any good? We don't have crocs. gators, bears, nuffin like that, so yesterday I bought, from an English ebay seller, a bag of small sized antler points. About 1.2kg, or about 2lb 10oz. Small points, maybe well over 100 of them. I'll count them later. Cost me nearly £32. Ordered yesterday morning at 06.44 and I received them 12.10 today ! As usual, I have a plan*; I'll maybe make 'look-a-like' Crocodile Dundee / Lightning Jack hat bands using the antler points instead of teeth * only about 40% of my plans actually become reality edit to add; 190* useful sized antler points, another 51 of very small tips, only suitable for loop stoppers or small buttons. That's about 17p (about 20c) each just counting the goods uns * thats a lot of Crocodile Dundee hat bands!

$10 ? that's cheap. I've seen them in men's fashion shops for as much as £50. Not only card filler but also that plasticky smooth finish. No.1 son was going to buy one at £35 but asked me first about them. I made him a decent belt

looking for GOOD men's acrylic wallet templates
fredk replied to DaveP's topic in Patterns and Templates
I've bought several acrylic and hdpe templates off ebay from Chinese sellers. The patterns are grand. Most even have stitching holes punched / drilled in them so you/I can mark the stitching, saves a bit of time for hand sewing -
I never heard that name. Looked it up and found that its a Coypu, as known here. It became an 'invasion' species here but afaik the small colony here has been wiped out

All I can say, is . . . WoW! There must be a lot of very careful work in them In the top photo one holster has its skirt out of the way. What way have you got the skirt loop affixed that you can do that?

I've ordered a set of the Fingers. They should be with me about the middle of next week but we are having postal worker strikes here right now and that's causing delivery delays

You've inspired me into thunking thinks What about these? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400563729483?epid=1305077329&hash=item5d4375744b:g:bPYAAOSwrmRbzeGg&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoNbG092tejfdHeoMgxm6VPMHiPmuBF%2FhZP8KDMc5P5L3yARheTxFQZh2%2FyHsF4%2BCl5nbtYEQbElmaybtbHrF7Chh9Gn%2FKxq%2BjhAPYMiI2rCPFTlHosQzmwfZAsVO7MECbN46MIZQ3vdzHugfsku%2B2EKCtO379qNKdhbn9gd%2BWCjphQU%2F0kfNafAQOOfq99Vki0XyAoMu1FKA00gTRZuARts%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8KMjMjfYA I might do a hat band with these for Halloween edited to add; I need to make a decent hat first ! !

My main hate is the myth that 'ready rivets' are not strong and will pull apart easily. Not so in my 22 years of experience Sewing with a sewing machine is not proper leather working/crafting & sewing machine sewing is not as good as hand sewing. Proper hand sewing can only be done using a hog's bristle Brass buckles (or other brass hardware) will make the leather rot If I/you/we make a historical replica very neat and tidy, with good sewing, neat edges, good carving or stamping, its not 'real' - the ancients, the Greeks, Romans, Corinthians, Chinese, Mongolians, Vikings, Persians, Medieval Europeans, Victorian age Europeans & Americans . . . . . . never made things as good as that, they didn't know how to Chrome tanned leather will cause cancer to anyone who uses a lot of it, either as a leather crafter or a wearer Chrome tanned leather takes hundreds of years to decompose and it pollutes the environment with heavy metals (chromium)

Some triweave inspired stamps I made. Thoughts?
fredk replied to texasleathertools's topic in Member Gallery
I've been thinking that the maker could save themselves a lot of money by using far less brass. On stamps I get made in brass the image part is about 3mm deep and the backing block is about 5mm = less than 3/8 inch (or about 5/16 inch) -
or just cos its purdy

I'll try again. All made from off-cuts out of the scrap box. About 5 inches tall. Just took an evening after I took the notion to make them. Just glued together. The 'star' is a chromed pressed steel ornament thingy. I was given loads of these things in various shapes. A chance to use some of them Showing front & rear; A few were a bit more elaborate; These were a bit bigger, about 7 inches tall. The other side had a personal initial on it I'm thinking of doing just a Christmas Tree hanger this year. With plastic jewel 'rhinestones' as decorations. Maybe about 4 to 5 inches tall

One of Al Stohlman's books shows a step-by-step on making/ forming keepers around wood formers. Although he describes doing narrow ones the process is exactly the same I'll see if I can find just which book. In the meantime someone else on here might chime in

I have done that on straps. It helps pull the two leathers tighter together at the edge. . . . . . But. a: I've done it at both ends of the fold-over and b: I cut a narrow slot for the thread to sit down into so it was no higher than the edge and c: at the cut edge of the fold-over I did a stitch over that edge as well.

I had a wee search but didn't find it Have you tried emailing or phoning Tandy HQ and branches? One time I was looking for set of Tandy alphabet stamps. I emailed nearly 40 branches until I eventually tracked down a set Branches might even know of someone who has one but has 'retired' from leather crafting and might be willing to sell it onwards

You could, sort-of, do a stacked leather grip. Layers of different coloured leather laid on top of each other either side of the tang. Loads of glue and/or resin. Then carve the grip back and the coloured leather layers will show as laminations like ply woods A look like WW1 propellers

Use gel-ink paints to write in the lines, then seal over the ink
-
I would dye to match and glue in a piece of 1mm thick leather, skived at the edges, to a feather edge, so it hardly shows. Then, lace through that new piece
-
Oh, I'll add, with some leathers I punch out 6mm discs for bases for game pieces. As each game needs 40 pieces, and not every disc is perfect I go through a lot of them. I also punch out my 'maker's mark' as an oval to glue into or onto items I cannot really put the stamping directly on

Use of rabbit fur may become illegal in UK
fredk replied to fredk's topic in Exotics, Reptiles, Furs and others
I haven't heard of those uns, but that would be typical of the UK Gov though They did try to ban people in offices using the words 'black' and 'white' in case people took offence No. not really, Animal Rights type people getting their way -
Yours looks just grand so it does but, I thought the marks in the long bit were done with a long pear shader, a P367, or a P208 ground narrower on the fat end
