  1. Old scots word for shoemaker was a snab or snob if your english, he got the pick of the good leather and the cobblers got the what was left, this is where the expression comes from if someone is called a snob. Kilmarnock in Scotland was the biggest shoemaking city in its day. Apart from shoes, scabbards, sword belts and targes I think it would be like any country if there where coo's in a field.

  9. First where are you based? You may need to take a mould or cast of your hip to get proper shape. I would probably hand tool all the hip part then going by picture make a similiar buckle for belt attachment. A lot of work! What price are you looking at?
  10. Looking good Wyvern, maybe next time use the badgers mask on the front. How did you get on locating a pinking iron?
  11. Very nice work well done. Newbie?? Lol.

  13. Very nice nothing wrong with them. Like the lettering.
  14. Cheers for posting this Wyvern, Only in the 50's would you work with glue with a suit on!!! The tool for making the wavy lines looks like a pricking iron, a heavy duty type, No.3 or 4.
  15. Found it hope it helps. Hello everyone, I saw the discussion about Barnsley tools. Edwin Hale is selling Barnsley tools through Hale and Company. He has been working with Colin Barnsley for the past 7 years to get these tools back on the market. He has very high standards when it comes to the trades. He grew up around bespoke trades in England and somehow found himself living in the U.S.. If you are looking for quality tools I would give him a call. You can view his Ebay store site but if you wish to make a purchase call him directly. 805-636-3087. He a very upstanding merchant, check his feedbacks on ebay. If you have questions about the tools purpose he will gladly tell you. He has a great deal of information, many of his friends are bespoke leather makers using traditional methods. Sorry about the length of this. bootsmt
