ok yes i saw this knife on ebay, if you have purchased it it appears to be a solid knife that has been taken care of, is not worn out in that the edge and original grind are still sound. i do notice the grind is a partial taper type, higher end blades usually have a full tapered grind but not always. There is no way to tell much more until you get it in your hands and sharpen it and use it for a bit. Buying used blades you always look at the wear of the blade, the grind type and try to deduce the amount of use or abuse, a soft blade or highly used blade would for example show much more sharpening wear. it does appear they polished the blade for the photos but that is a good thing imo a step you wont have to do.

You can buy a Rockwell hardness tester that will tell you the hardness of the blade. You can take a file and do a file test but that takes alot of experience IMO. ITs not easy for a novice to check steel quality. Actually the best is to look at reviews if you can find them or talk to someone who owns one. Other than that sharpening is my goto method for testing a knife blade hardness. You have to remember the human element, some folks like a super hard blade so they don't sharpen as much, some like a blade easier to sharpen so like a blade a bit softer. Myself i prefer the later a good solid blade that is easy to sharpen and holds a decent edge. i guess really quality is somewhat a personal choice as well. Where is this knife being sold? do you have any pictures seeing what you are wanting would be a big help.

i use the boxes they come in I write on the sides what type thickness etc. and stand them up or stack them up. But i live where humidity isn't a problem and have enough room.

life is an experiment go for it!!!! But don't try vinegaroon on fish and chips lol! The roon has never let me down is cheap and easy to make i also will be trying some natural dyes, spring is finally here and so some spring flowers will be ready soon.

LOL yea those are creepy critters for sure! but the roon has been around for hundreds of years and is also used for staining wood. Depends on the purpose of the item, i make a lot of outdoor type leather goods, holsters and knife sheathes, so i usually use a little neat's-foot oil and then good waterproofing for boots and shoes like fiebings golden mink oil, for wallets, belts and such i use super sheen or the 50/50 mop n glo mix is about the same imo. You also use the sheens for a resist when you are using multiple colors of dyes.

for black i use vinegaroon, it is basically iron dissolved in vinegar and reacts with the tannins in the leather to change the color to black. Can be made at home for cheap. Throw a steel wool pad in a jar of vinegar for a few days. it wont leach out like some dyes if you leather gets wet.

lol I forget the global village we now live in, i forget to look at where folks are located. Baggie is a company that makes resealable sandwich or food storage bags. Here we have freezer bags ,sandwich bags, double seal bags, zip lock , really an endless variety to choose from and why I don't have a clue. I use the double seal freezer type they are thickest. We have some books dating in the 1800s that we have kept for years this way, some on a shelf some in plastic totes for added protection.
