Okay Clay, As soon as I figure out how to put it in words, or perhaps photos would be easier, I'll post it. Hey, this will be my first lesson! Shirley

I'm new to braiding. Thought I'd try a few bracelets. I didn't want to go with the traditional fasteners, because I for one can't fasten them on myself. So I went with snaps.

You have every right to be proud. Those are beautiful. Shirley -
Finally got my butt out of vacation mode and finished this seat.

Very sad because he was one of my biggest inspirations. Our loss. Shirley

Johanna what ever happened to Billy? I heard he was sick and moved back to S.A, is that right? Have not seen any new work from him in a while. Shirley

Awesome job Dave. Any chance of a pineapple knot lesson? Shirley

Hi Clay, Sorry for the slow reply, been on vacation. I'll have to give that a try on the next seat, this ones already sealed and ready for riveting. This is the first skull type doo hickey I've done. Picked up a few tattoo flash disks on ebay. Not really sure of how to tool them yet. I think I understand what you're saying though, thanks for the input. Very much appreciated. Shirley

Johanna, I know what you mean. I purchased a 'Chandler' from a friend of a friend. I'm scared I'm gonna sew my arm to the table. It was much more machine than I need, so I bought another. Now they sit and stare at each other, waiting for me to actually sew something. One day. shirleyz

Hi Victor, That looks awesome! How long would something like that take you to complete? Don't know what a bosal is, but I'm sure that will look just as good. Great work! Shirley

How can you make bike seats without the occasional skull? Thought I'd do a seat using the traditional biker dead heads, using tattoo flash.

Very nice work Dan. I like it! Shirley -
Thank You for your nice words, I appreciate it. I have only been doing this for a year, if I can do it so can you. Just don't do it better than me! Okay, where to start? I normally use a 6/7 oz piece for the top, I like to be able to tool pretty deeply, and it saves the seat from wrinkling. For the sides I use a 3/4 oz, it’s easier to mold to the form of the seat and you don’t want to add too much thickness to the bottom. When using the ‘x’ stitch I do a single row of lace holes on each piece 3/8†in. The top seat piece is laced over the side piece and when the stitching is pulled taut it locks the too pieces in place, very simple. Otherwise I use the Spanish round braid ( I believe) and butt the edges together, this being my favorite. It lays flatter, more comfortable to ride. The foam I use is black closed cell neoprene. It comes in different depths ands lengths. I build it up in layers to get the seat thickness I need. I then use a rasp to shape it. It is water proof which is important, however I always tell my customers that this doesn’t mean the leather is. Hope this helps. Shirley

Hi Dan, Lovely clock. Peter Main himself could be proud of that. Shirleyz

Beautiful work Blake! I especially like the one with the star and brass nail heads. I did a cross picture with nail heads for a friend, not nearly as nice as yours though. Makes me want to do it over. Shirley

According to the receipt I have for the initial Tandy learners kit, I've been doing this since May 22, 05. Still can't believe I'm actually starting my own business. Move over Paul cox!
