Latest Out Of The Shop
Tkleather1 replied to Tkleather1's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Well Hilly the back looks just like the front. It is a two peice purse ( minus the handles ). The sides and bottom are one piece and the gusset is the other piece. I lined this one with black pigskin. I will take a picture from the top some time today. Tim -
I was fortunate enough to get a set of thumbs, a center shader, and a leaf liner. I love the impressions I get with them. I dont have a pic readily available to post and show em off but they are all I use on my tooling now and I am hoping to get some more from him soon. Look at any of my recent pics and you will see them Tim Worley TK-Leather

Need Some Info On Barry King And Wrangler Swivel Knives
Tkleather1 replied to cem's topic in Leather Tools
Peter Main uses Henley knives. I just talked to him. -
Well your explanation makes sense but I wasnt very clear on what I was making. I meant to put in there that these are chinks that are beeing built not chaps but I think it will work either way. Thanks a bunch Tim

Ok I do a lot of Chaps and Chinks but I have never done step-ins. I have a general idea of how to do them but I am not real sure. I know that the customer wants them with the laced sidepanels but if you all could give me a quick rundown I sure would appreciate it. Thanks in advance Tim Worley TK-Leather

When I first started out I also bought one of these. It is a gimick tool at best. I am sorry you wasted the money like I did but you are money ahead by pitching it. Tim TK-Leather

Cool Thanks for the input guys, and gal haha I will check em out for sure. Tim

Yeah Tim I have some of his bevelers, a maul and a swivel knife oh and a basket. I really like em but I think that there is better out there in this catagory. If no one pipes up I will look into his as well as Chuck Smith I think his prices are a little better because you get four of em for I believe 150 bucks. If someone has a set they they want to part with I would be interested and I am not picky on maker if the price is right and they are better than Tandy's stuff. Thanks though Tim Tim Worley Tk-Leather

OK all I am looking for some new bargrounders. I am sick of the quality of the craftool, and before anyone gets worked up I am not talkin about my grandpas father in laws crafttools I am talking about the cheap stuff that they have been selling for the past few years (at least). I seem to be improving on my tooling until I get to the bargrounding portion. I have tried to take everyones advice and it helped a bunch but not getting anywhere near the results that I am after. So I pose the question of who makes the best bargrounders for the buck. I know that expensive tools are not the whole answer but everytime I get a new high quality tool I see drastic improvements. So thank you for any and all input that you masters can give. Tim Worley TK-Leather

I have been using H.O. for a few years now and I always but it from Weaver. They were always real nice sides but the last two I got had way more blemishes and hardspots in them than any of the others combined. I am not sure what the deal is with this. I called weaver to ask about it and they told me that they have had a few calls about it but overall no word. I dont have an answer but I hope the one thats in the mail to my place is better than the last two. I have been Kickin around tryin some Wickett and Craig but havent done it yet since I have been overall happy with the H.O. but now I might just do it. Tim Worley TK-Leather

Bruce do you let it set and then buff the heck out of it before you oil?
-
I have a purse that has a brand tooled in with the floral carving. In the past I have dyed the lettering and let set overnight buff with a peice of trimmed sheepskin. but the problem is when I apply the neatlac it lifts the dye and causes the lettering to be blotchy and the rest of the piece to become muddy. I have been using Fiebings Pro dye. I am curious if I put tankote down first will it help with the lifting or make it worse. So here is my question, How do you all dye your lettering and what finish do you use that will not left the dye. If I dont get a good answer I will not dye the lettering on this job but maybe just antique instead. I dont want to sound like a complete newbie here but I see a lot of you guys that dont have any trouble with this, and this is something that I have fought from day one. Thanks in advance and I will sit back and listen. Tim TK-Leather

Twin Oaks you crack me up. "If I can't get more than halfway through a finger tip before it hurts, it's time to strop." I dont know a thing about hadn stitching really but I do know if your tools arent sharp things dont go the way they should. and that counts for everything from my head knives, swivel knives and my fillegree punches and chisels. and really everything in between. Good luck Tim TK-Leather

Thanks guys. It means alot to hear all of your nice comments. And mark I dont know about the show but I appreciate the kind words. Tim Worley TK-Leather

New Sheath And New Knife
Tkleather1 replied to RSFknives's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I really like them simple but with "curb appeal". So is the knife made of true damascuss or is it a "printed steel"? and what would a knife like that go for? Look Great. Tim TK-Leather -
Well she came home last night and tried em on. and I think she liked em because she wore em around the house for about an hour before our daughter told her "mommy you dont have to wear your chinks in the house, there arent any horses or cows in the house". Well the four year old knows everything you know. Any way I think she likes em. Thanks everyone for stopping by and taking a peek. Tim TK-Leather
