I want to make my first wallet. I need to know what optimal size veg tan to use as well as what kind of lining. I would prefer to do a slot style bifold, not interested in doing a t-style slot at this time. Open for many and all suggestions!

Alligator wallet
Prestige593 posted a topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I got some alligator scraps on eBay with the intent of making a few small items. I also got some alligator printed leather from Tandy and took a crack at that. Can you guess which one is the real gator? I think they came out pretty nice for a newbie. I can't decide what friend i'm going to gift these to. -
Well my wallet that I had for years fell apart, and I have been wanting to try one for a while, so here it is. This is a 5 pocket bifold made from 3-4oz Hermann Oak craftsman grade veg tanned leather, in ecoflo Bison Brown with a coat of Aussie. My edges could have been better, but I'm happy with the color and the stitching.

Hi all, New here this is my first post. I'm no expert at leather I just make a few simple wallets amongst other stuff. I also run a YouTube channel so I hope it's okay to post this here! Slim + Simple Leather Wallet Above is link to the YouTube video. Thanks! Edward

Grandpa wanted an extra large bifold that can hold all his stuff, including prescriptions. It's huge. Way bigger than anything I would have accepted to work on, except this was grandpa asking. He also requested a pull tab for his most used card. No finger prints left after a life time of farm work so he has trouble with most regular card slots. so: 3 regular card slots. 2 extra large card slots. 1 pull tab slot. 2 large wing pockets. 1 very large bill slot. Used this project to try french binding, skiving and multiple layers of edge painting; all for the first time. I'm probably only happy with 70% of the stitches. I really need to get better with awl use. Outside is a 4/5 oz veg tan(grandpa wanted durable but really I should have gone thinner), dark brown is a mystery veg tan my uncle gave me that burnishes surprisingly well, and the black is glazed pig skin from tandy(soooo also mystery). Poly thread. Tandy edge flex and sanding and edge flex and sanding and edge and sanding and polishing, etc etc. I did them so many times and still never got the results I wanted. Layers upon layers. Oh well, should be durable. That's 12 layers of leather when not counting the t-slots and folded over edges. Really I think grandpa needs a zippered wallet or something. Or maybe 2 slim wallets. One for medical info and another money and phone numbers he can't remember. Critique away. I need to start cutting up the pigskin into a million card slots I guess. Not sure what else I'd want to use it on.

Simple bi fold wallet i have made a few of these with various patterns, pics, logos. The one i use is around 1 yr old and still holding together. The outer is 1.5mm veg tanned leather and the inner is 1mm pre dyed upholstery leather/synthetic. I like to use that for the inner as i think it is more durable, the plastic cards going in and out will wear normal leather quite quickly. Thanks for looking. Craig

Hello, This is my first post and my first project. I needed to make a new leather fishing pliers holster so I walked into my local Tandy shop a few weeks ago. A few $100 later I walked out with a bunch of tools, chemicals, and leather. I am still going to make that pliers holster, but made a wallet to start off with. I am brand new to leather crafting and only know what I know from this forum for a few weeks and YouTube. I plan on gifting this to a buddy for his birthday. I stamped his initials in it with some of my wife's metal stamps (not really made for leather). Made from 4/5 oz veg tan shoulder, stained USMC Black, and hand stitched with Lt Grey thread. A simple 2 pocket card wallet lined with material liner from Joanne's. I found the wallet template online. Very simple and I had fun making it. I don't think that I'll line the inside with fabric on the next one. The cement came through the fabric in some areas and was a little messy. Let me know what you think. Mark - Hollywood, FL

Billfold for dad
battlemunky posted a topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Last weekend I made some shearling hose shoes for my mom for xmas so to keep dad from feeling like Tiny Tim, I made him a wallet. As any of y'all into rock and roll know, a few weeks ago we lost Malcolm Young from AC/DC and they are my dad's favorite band. He was pretty sad about it....said "that dude is one of my heroes", so instead of a plain wallet like I was planning, I had the idea to make him an AC/DC wallet. If anyone can tell me how to get images to post in here I'd appreciate it. It used to work for me but now I always get the size limit error. I'm apologizing in advance for the links. https://image.ibb.co/gcwKpb/20171201_141820_1.jpg https://image.ibb.co/n0QZNw/20171201_145749_1.jpg https://image.ibb.co/jsEuNw/20171202_114753.jpg https://image.ibb.co/hr5OFG/20171202_114812.jpg https://image.ibb.co/khOAvG/20171202_113502.jpg https://image.ibb.co/buvqvG/20171202_114806.jpg -
Finally finished the Sheridan style wallet I had carved a while back. Think it came out ok, but overall some things I'd change for next time, like using thicker leather. The interior was like 1 oz, the exterior I think was 3 oz or so. Juane Fil Au Chinois Lin Cable thread. Let me know what you all think of the end result! YinTx

Just finished a long wallet for myself...haven't done a wallet in a while, and now I remember why. They're so d*** fiddley... Anyways, ~5 oz veg, pattern and design by me, oil after dye, no top coat (probably going to wax it in a couple of days), simple guts cause I'm not very good at wallet guts. I'm also not particularly good at anything else, but I'm all ears

I am looking for some assistance with a wallet. I have had a request to make a bi fold but with a badge holder in it. My problem is designing the holder part.

I just finished two wallets for two brothers, they wanted the same wallet but to be different,so on one of wallet I put silver ziper and silver rivets, and on another i used brass ziper and rivets, and since one of them is huge fan of our local soccer club I used their colors( black & orange). I design this mmw myself because I carry 6 cards and use cash for paying, and card holder is just to small for me,and I am not bi fold typ of man.
