  1. I am just beginning to research the purchase of my first stamps. I am planning on doing some figure carving as well as some patterns and floral designs eventually. I have a couple of questions that may have been asked before but I haven't found anything specific to my questions so far. 1. Stamps, stamp sets, quality vs cost. I have read all the comments about getting the good stuff in order to do quality work. But I am on a fixed income with a limited budget so I need to keep costs in line. The problem is that there doesn't seem to be anything in between the $8 stamp and the $40 stamp. People say the latest Craftool stuff isn't good quality. They point you at Barry King or some of the other high priced stuff. Isn't there something intermediate that an amateur hobbyist can do decent work with and still afford to buy some leather to work on? 2. If there is an affordable source what stamps would be recommended to start with if I bought individual stamps as opposed to a set. If I have to spend a little more then I will be forced to acquire stamps one or two at a time so I would be looking for stamps with the most widespread useage initially. SLC sells a basic set of 9 stamps for about $60 but I believe those are the modern Craftool stamps people advise against. I am just a hobbyist as I said but I would like to be able to produce decent quality work once I learn and practice. Perhaps 3 or 4 fundamental stamps of higher quality are the way to start but which stamps.
  2. Hi guys thanks for checking my listing out! i have a great collection of hand tools that i have collected for my use but unfortunately do to my current health reasons i must sell them all, i can not do the leather work i truly love any more, there for everything is up for grabs. i always like the but the highest quality of tools and materials so here is the list, before you read any further you should know, it is a PACKAGE DEAL, i WILL NOT split anything up, because of my health reasons i simply do not have the will to do so. according to my estimation i have SPENT about $3800 for these tools and such but i am only asking $1525 including shipping anywhere in the USA, sorry no international shipping. i will only accept USPS money order or Paypal as a payment option. i have not posted on Ebay yet, i wanted to give the users of this forum the first chance because i love this forum and i surely learned alot of things here and met a lot of awesome people. please do not be shy to message me with any question you might have, thanks and take care. P.S. if you are willing to pick them up in person and pay me in cash, i will deduct the shipping expense (abviously) and i have a large mystery box of goodies for u. 31 BARRY KING stamps, seeders, bevelers... 4. I need help getting my gofundme campaign going. I am trying to raise money to purchase leather tools for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. I posted a topic in this section a while back and got some very good donations of tools and supplies. But I need a lot more. the link is https://www.gofundme.com/cdwdkpzg I didn't know this, but gofundme requires you to upload your friends from Facebook. The problem is I don't use Facebook so I have no friends. Please take a look at it and if you are willing, send this link to as many leatherworkers and friends that may be interested in helping me. And ask them to please pass it along. A lot of people on this forum never get to this section so it is difficult to get in contact with them. With your help we can make this a successful campaign. Also if you wish to donate leather stamps and tools, please send to the address below. Thank you so much, Dale Prezgay 4800 Crimson Glory Lane Las Vegas, NV 89130
  5. I have a problem i need to solve asap. I am helping the local BSA with their leather program. Raising money and getting tool donations is going to be a big part of that. But the problem at hand is this. Storage of the 2d/3d leather stamps and alphabet sets. The boxes they have are severely worn and need to be replaced. Tandy discontinued the boxes they sold and currently have some plastic racks that will not work for our needs. Springfield Leather has a box that will work but it has an attached lid that makes it awkward when it is opened on the table, as it takes up twice the space. Since I am looking at a custom solution I have come up with one I think is pretty good. Our Council has multiple sets of tools that have to be kept separate. These are the programs they have: Cub Scout Day Camp - There are supposed to be 4 identical sets of tools that are loaned to the districts whenever they are doing a day camp. They handle up to 20 scouts at a time with multiple sessions throughout the day. These sets are also used for the Leatherwork Merit Badge events sponsored by the council with 20 scouts per class. Usually 2 classes in a day. BSA Scout Reach - There are supposed to be 4 identical sets of tools for use in this program for about 40 kids to use the tools at a time with 3 or 4 groups that use them that day. BSA Summer Camp - Last year our council had 2 summer camps running, one outside Las Vegas and one in Utah. So there are 2 sets of tools that are kept at their respective camps. So there are 10 sets of tools that need to be managed with 8 that are supposed to be mobile. I am thinking of building a front-opening box with trays, of 3/4" plywood, that can be removed and set on a table. The trays would be close enough that the tray above would act as a stop so the stamps wouldn't shift during transport. One of the designs I am considering is having a row of stamps and just below it a leather strip with the stamp impression and stamp number on it. This way I can easily see if anything is missing when the set gets turned in. The problem is that this takes up a little more than twice the space as the regular stamp box. But it will keep the stamps in order. This will apply to the alphabet sets as well. For my own stamps, I used to keep them in the boxes, stacked in a cabinet but every time I wanted a specific stamp or alphabet set it always seemed to be the bottom box I needed. Now I keep them in one of those flat file cabinets commonly known as blueprint, map or art cabinets. Actually I have 3 of them with a total of 15 drawers. Now all the alphabet and 3d stamps are spread out in a single layer. My alphabet sets take up 3 drawers. The 2d/3d stamps including the stamp sets (sports, native american, emojis, etc...) take up 4 and the rest are filled with leather tools and stuff. After I create the same custom trays like I describer above, my 3d stamps will probably use at least 6 drawers. I've seen them on offerup for as little as 90.00 each, so they are a bargain. But not great for mobility. Any other ideas out there? Dale
  6. Hi, Just wondered if anyone would be interested in Craftool Co. Sets 8136 - 1/2" Number Set (250g) 8135 - 3/4" Number Set (450g) 8134 1/4" Alphabet & Number Set (250g) 8130 1/2" Alphabet Set (500g) 8142 1/2" Wood Alphabet Set (500g) 8131 3/4" Alphabet Set (800g) 1" Zodiac Set (600g) 3/4" Celtic Alphabet Set (1kg) Not really sure on price if I'm honest, it seems to vary :/ I am in the UK, postage to the USA for example is £13 which is up to 2kg weight, that was just a quick look, might be cheaper elsewhere. I have weighed them and the figures are pretty much spot on, so a little room for packaging will need to be considered. I can add pictures if requested. Anyway let me know if anyone is interested and thanks for looking Janine
  7. I would like to invest in a couple of nice beveling stamps. I am looking for some recommendations. I've looked at Barry King's website and there are so many which is great but I don't know what the difference is between a few. I know I want a smooth beveler. I make dog collars and therefore work quite small. My go to Craftool bevelers is a B935 and B203. A few of my questions are 1) What is an undercut beveler? 2)What are your favorite brands, BK, ect? 3)Is there a way to figure out what angle the Craftool bevelers are so I can compare them mentally? Right now Im looking at either the BK line but am not sure about the regular, 15 degree or xx steep. Thanks in advance! Julie
  8. Greetings fellow leather workers For many years during my journey with leather working I have always been a huge fan of embossing. I was never very good at beveling therefore I always focused more on embossing anything i could find - bottle cap, coin, brooch, literally anything that could create something unique. Well as you can imagine this was a huge limitation for my products and for my creativity, having only what was available on the market plus all these random things didn't give me much of freedom. After a whole year of searching for a good reliable, durable and price reasonable solution + many failed tests I managed to find one which I would like to share with you today. My goal form the beginning was to find a solution that would be affordable so People can finally create their own stamps or even whole collections without spending tons of money on it. My online store has been only recently put online so please bare with me and my limited offer but I assure you that the offer will grow. Every week I try to add new designs. Custom requests are available all the time. since I am based in Europe I also tried to find a reasonable shipping solution to US and here how it looks: regular airmail: ~5$ Courier:~15$ WWW: stamps-for-leather.com FB: Facebook page Please share with me your suggestions, and feel free to comment Best regards Inth few samples:
  9. I've been making custom stamps with my laser engraver out of 1/4" acrylic. I thought originally acrylic would not work, but to my surprise it works very well with an arbor press. They're not indestructible, but as long as apply even pressure, these will last a very long time. I'm selling them for $10ea.. that includes shipping. A small art fee may apply if you have something complex.. $5 to $15 .. PM me if interested Ron
  10. Hello everyone, I am trying to find out where I can get a couple of stamps being used in these two pictures. The first picture I am wanting the circle stamps of different sizes. On the second picture I'd like to find a flower center like this one. Thank you!

  17. So getting rid of a few craft tool stamps. There are about 4 or so that arent craft tool, no idea who made them. I included the stamping and numbers if ya can read it. May have to right click and open image in its own window so you can zoom in. They are all in good shape, come from various time era's. Lots are from about 7 years ago, some I got from places other then tandy so hard to tell age. Some have the black label, one or two say stainless as well, rest are just stamped. 52 stamps all together. $120 plus $8 shipping to US states (priority flat rate box). If your in canada or somewhere else we can discuss shipping but I have no clue if that throws it way up or something. Sold as a group, dont want to split them up. Oh and there are gonna be a few extra free B's that I have filed on or forgot to include when I was taking the original photos so. Odd cant seem to attach photos like usual.

  24. I am from overseas and will be in Arizona for the summer and was hoping to stock up on quality tools for leather carving and tooling. I was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere in Arizona where I might be able to buy tools from someone who is really skilled in tooling. I brought some of my work with me hoping to have a professional see where I can improve and what tools I should buy to help improve my work. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!!
