Hello to the lovely leatherwork community, I joined the forum as my father in law has passed away and I have so many sewing machines machines, presses, leather goods, many of the items I am finding which I have no idea what they are! lol I have about 12 sewing machines, enough shoe lasts, leather, buckles, rivets, hand tools, punch tools and various other items to last a lifetime. The shoe shop was around for 100 years and I know a couple of the machines are 1850's just from a little google search. I am hoping that people will share their knowledge with me so I can make sure the items are given a new home and preserved. Thank you for reading this post.

Good morning! I’m looking for a ‘wide’ creaser. One that I can use to crease the edges prior to laying down the sewing line and sewing. One that will recess the thread lower than the actual wallet to reduce thread stress. I have a Vulcan electric edger, but none of the tips offer a wide enough result. I’m open to any brand tip or tool. Thank you in advance!

I have slowly been upgrading my leather crafting tools over the years and along with doubles (which almost all the stamps are & haven't been used) that I have received as gifts, well I have a whole drawer filled with tools just sitting there not being used so figured I'd sell them. I went onto tandys website (and the websites for the non-tandy tools) to get prices so I could price them fair. Of course they were prices for new tools (again which almost all the stamps are) and the exact price came out to $910.64. Of course I'm not expecting or asking for that amount. I have listed all the different tools in the message below. Message me if you want the stamp numbers. Open to REASONABLE offers. I'm hoping to sell this as a package deal but might consider breaking it up.

Hello, I am new to this form, and need some advise as to which brand of tools I should get. I have never leather worked, but it is very intriguing and I want to make some knife sheaths, and maybe later some bags and wallets. From what I read, I will want an stitching wheel, a groover, an edger, a scratch awl, needles, and a burnisher. I already have a mallet, a xacto knife, and a surface to work on. It seems like Tandy’s hand tools are not quality anymore, and wanted advise to see if these tools are good: kyoshin elle pro edge creaser and groover kyoshin elle pro stitching wheel(all sizes included) Rocky Mountain Diamond awl Kyoshin elle pro grooved edger #2 John James needles(I don’t know what size to get and don’t understand what thread size either, pleeeaaase help) Tandy’s wood burnisher(seems like this tool of Tandy’s would be fine?) Thank you in advance. leather2

It looks like Tandy Leather once again is trying to stay relevant in the leather crafting market. Although the Craftool Pro series of tools was a definite step up from the standard Craftool lineup, for the last two years, they have been trying to win back the serious hobbyist/small business as well as leather professionals alike by bringing in more professional grade tools. First they started with a new line of machines called TandyPro, which now also includes the Cobra series of sewing machines, as well as the Cowboy Outlaw. Just recently they add some Barry King tools as well as the TandyPro hand tools lineup made by a Chinese firm and are labeled Since: TandyPro® Hand Tools — Tandy Leather, Inc. Although made in China, these tools actually look like pro quality tools. I haven't been able to get down to my Tandy store to check them out in person to see if their quality matches their looks. Anyone here have any hands on experience with these tools? I would prefer a tool work exceptionally well, rather than look good, but if I can have a quality tool with looks to match, all that much better.

I have a fairly complete leather studio for sale. I opened my business about 5 years ago, and it's time to move on to something else. Included in the sale is basically everything I have (which I'm not going to list in detail here, but if interested, I can give much more detail including pics, videos or a personal visit if you're local). Items included: Leather Machine Company Cobra 4-P. This machine was purchased new in 2014 and is in excellent condition. (http://www.leathermachineco.com/shop/cobra-class-4-p-premium-package/) Heavy Duty Large Worktable, with cutting surface. This table I built myself and is a beast. It is about 4x8 and includes a full surface cutting board. 45-50 Blue guns and Aluminum cast dummy guns. I can give you an exact list of the models I have. These cost around $50 each (plus shipping) new (roughly $2200 value). Numerous hand tools, including high end cutters, edgers, punches, etc. Lost of hardware including buckles, rivets, chicago screws, belt clips, etc. I have 2-3 full to partial hides of Herman Oak B/C grade tooling leather. I have about a 1/4 hide left of elephant (honey vintage), which takes a beautiful die from both light brown and black. I have a tub full of exotic scraps (elephant, alligator, shark, a small amount of ostrich, etc.) I have a half tub full of 8-10oz latino leftover. I have 2 tubs of cowhide scraps and about a 1/4-1/2 tub of horsehide scraps. I have a new branding iron as well, you'd just need to have your own logo made (or if you'd like to take my logo, you could do that as well). I'm not really selling the business name, mostly because I don't feel it's worth anything, and also because it's my last name, but if someone wanted the name/domain, I'd be ok with parting with that as well. This sale is basically for the entire set of my tools and supplies for a small leather business. Everything is in excellent shape and I have much more invested than I expect to get out of it. Asking $4500 for everything. Please email (talktochad@mac.com) or call (727-482-1258) for further information. I'm located in Fort Worth Texas. - Chad

I have a customer that wants me to make 500 of these small oval shapes with two holes in the center (see photo). Is there a pre-existing tool that I can buy to punch out the oval? Do I need a die cutter? Where should I start? Thanks!

Hi Everyone, I've been learning so much from this forum - thank you! I have a recurring problem with my bag straps that I am hoping you all can help me with: I am using an English point strap end punch from Weaver Leather to make the ends of my bag straps. I use a 1" punch on a 5/8" wide strap because I like the more obtuse angle that it creates at the end. . . problem is I can NEVER get this thing to perfectly center, and my two curved wings are almost always just slightly lopsided. I am a perfectionist, so the littlest bit of unevenness bothers me. . . but it also becomes a problem because then I attach the strap to the exterior bag by edge stitching (with my machine) around the perimeter of the strap end. . . so any lopsidedness really becomes apparent. Does that make any sense? I have tried making end punch/stitching templates out of scrap leather straps, and this works okay, but is still not totally foolproof. . . Does anyone have any tips or words of wisdom when it comes to quickly centering that strap end punch, and also stitching evenly around that point? I'm so tired of wasting precious strap leather! Thank you all so much for sharing your knowledge!

I purchased my first Dixon pricking iron - 6SPI, 1 inch - two months ago. I noticed that the prongs are not centered. I was told by the distributor that this is how they are designed. When I held the iron perpendicular, it flew out of my hand when I struck it. My other irons (Blanchard, Seiwa) are symmetrical. My questions: Why does Dixon grind them this way? Is there a special technique for using them?

Prefer the whole thing sold together but can peice if shipping is covered by buyer. My last estimation of the total cost of my kit was close to $1500 to $2000 I have stamps, new older and some no longer made, multipule swivel knives, rawhide mallets, rotary and stitching punches, edgers, wood strap cutter with replacement blades, stiching hourse, manuals and the like. the majority of the tools are kept in an old style machineist's tool box. Will be providing pictures of what I have in the next few days. Feel free to ask questions in the mean time.
