New machine!

Recommended Posts

Well I've done it. For better or worse.

I've realised that numbers mean nothing so I asked for what I wanted and apparently, that's what I've got.

It's different knowing what the model numbers mean from the get go.

She says   "about your machine model. 2 means self lubricatoon, L means large bobbin 28mm. so your 341 machine model will  be JL-341L-2."

Also included, table attachment, speed reducer, spare hook and bobbins/needles.

They're putting it together and will do a video when done. Then It's the long wait.

Long wait - so I guess you bought it on Alibaba and have it shipped to the UK?

Yes, then I'll evaluate and decide what to do with the old Durkopp 239 and the Adler 69. Does it look ok to you?

Congrats on the new machinery.

Thanks mate. Hoping it will perform as good as it looks. Just hoping the speed reducer takes it down enough although I can always change the pulley size. And it'll be great not having to worry about oiling. Like when you only intended to do a little bit that turns into a bit more and you realise you didn't oil it. :o

Nice go. I think you should be pleased with the capabilities of a 341.

JL-341L-2

At least they are honest with their labeling / numbering which is nice to see. JL for Jiang Long, 341 as to what it is basically cloned after.

Hope you are aware of import taxes and VAT.

Duty is zero. VAT of course is 20%. Still about £700 less than I was gonna pay for a used 1341 here.

That is a fair bit of savings. For an idea of what the £700 saving is equal to in other countries ----- >about $1200 Canadian Dollars or $1350 Australian Dollars or $890 US Dollars and a new not used machine. That saving can go into other related items like leather, etc. As long as someone is fairly apt with sewing machines buying direct ( fresh off the boat) can be a cost effective way to go.

@toxo - Congratulations!  Now the LONG wait starts!  :)  I'm sure it's going to be hard to stay patient.

I hope others with a lot more experience than me jump in to comment about the automatic oiling system.  It's been my understanding that automatic oiling systems are really for machines that will be operated at high speeds for extended periods.  I've heard they work a lot less efficiently when/if a machine is run at low speeds as many/most leather workers are apt to do.  You may have to add to the automatic oiling from time to time with some careful manual touch up.

Cheers to the new machine being everything you wanted!

I think the system you're thinking about IS for fast garment type machines. Those machines normally have a pump and a sump filled with oil. I think in machines like this one it's probably just a wick type sytem, I might be wrong. It has been known to happen.

Yes,it is a wick system, but I would still manually oil all the places esp in the needlebar area before you sew on it.

I paid 0 VAT and import duty on my Tippmann Boss because its a 'specialist' sewing machine. Its a category on Customs & Excise website. I didn't have to ask for it they just applied it

I just went on the simply duty website. I definitely will investigate though. Thanks for the heads up Fred.

You did well.:specool:

When I looked at buying a machine from China by the time I factored in shipping, assorted handling and brokerage charges, delivery, GST (our VAT) blah, blah, blah it wasn't any cheaper than buying it here - and Australia is closer to China than the UK!

Well, congratulations. New machinery is always exciting.

Speaking of which, I haven't had any new sewing machines for a while ... You, my friend, are a bad influence!

Thanks Bob. I've asked her to show me the system. She'll show me on Monday, I'd hate to miss out an important bit from the get go.

Sorry mate I missed this post, I have been real busy lately. I have to say the 341 and the 1341 are way different machines. Both good machine copies of Juki models but the 1341 has the knob on top for quick presser foot height adjustments, has 2 tension dials for the thicker type threads and work and a full on oil feed system that works too well for some. With them you will always get surplus oil that needs soaking up around the needle area when left for awhile. Main thing of difference is that the top feet feed and needle  system on the 1341 has a rectangular setup that allows the stitches to remain evenly spaced whether thick or thin leather is fed through. It does not go with a pendulum type motion as many of the other machines do which mean shorter stitches as the material gets thicker.

This video shows what we here in OZ call a Cowboy CB6900 and I believe in the states it's called a CB1341. Note what I am saying in it about getting the right table. The normal table that most supply is just plain BS.

Turns out it does have a sump and a pump. Obviously it'll work better at the higher speeds but the manual ports are there for supplementary.

Hi Brian. We're gonna confuse each other now. When I was researching this machine I started off looking for a Juki 1341. I found a whole lot of machines that call themselves 1341. I thought they were Juki clones but not so. One guy tried to sell me a 1342 which is the machine you're referring to here but it turned out to be a clone of the Mitsubishi 6860. Another confusing issue is what I call the "hump jumper" the dial on the top. I think ALL the 1341 clones have it but the Juki 1341 DOES NOT have it. The Juki 1342 has it.

At the end of the day I just went with the features I wanted. Auto lube, large hook and bobbin (28mm), stitch length 0-9.5mm, servo motor, needle positioning. As long as it works as it should I'll be a happy bunny. She's told me this morning that they'll build it tomorrow or Wednesday and show me the video before shipping. What's not to like?
