Members rockinZmom Posted June 16 Members Report Posted June 16 best screwdrivers that wont mar the heads of the screws. im looking the best set for my singer 111w155. thank you.. Quote
Members fibersport Posted June 16 Members Report Posted June 16 (edited) Don't mean to sound snarky but the best screwdriver is the one that fits. You might have to shop around for some, might try a gunsmith supplier? Guns usually have odd size screws that get marred if not using the correct size. Only other suggestion is to be very careful with what you do have on hand. Edited June 16 by Northmount Removed extra quote boxes Quote

I would say those made in Switzerland then either those made in Japan or Germany. The problem is getting screwdrivers that seat and fit properly as well as being durable so sometimes you need to go with metric sized screwdrivers to get a better fit to avoid screw head slop. kgg Quote Juki DNU - 1541S, Juki DU - 1181N, Singer 29K - 71(1949), Chinese Patcher (Tinkers Delight), Warlock TSC-441, Techsew 2750 Pro, Consew DCS-S4 Skiver

Northmount Posted June 16 Report Posted June 16 These are for wood screws, so not the correct thickness necessarily. The important part is the faces are parallel rather than tapered. So won't cam out as easily, less damage to screw heads. Quote
Members eblanche Posted June 16 Members Report Posted June 16 I have been using the basic "sewing machine" set from Chapman Mfg. Good stuff but I do not have much experience with other quality tools. The small hand ratchet, and thumb spinner have made themselves very useful; especially with feed dogs and throat plates. All the other posters are correct though, it is important to match the sizes and having a non-tapered head also helps. https://chapmanmfg.com/pages/bits-that-dont-screw-up Quote
Members dikman Posted June 16 Members Report Posted June 16 Like others have mentioned, Chapman have a great range and are excellent quality. I bought them for working on firearms but find them useful for lots of other stuff, they have parallel sides on the blades and some are very thin, not always easy to find. Makes a huge difference when paired with the right size screw. Members amuckart Posted June 17 Members Report Posted June 17 Those Chapman sets look good. I bought a Winchester branded set from a gun shop. Gunsmith sets are nice because they’ve got heaps of different size flat bits, and importantly they’ve got multiple widths, so you can get the right size without marring the edges of the hole the screw is in. if you’ve got a good variety of hollow-ground flat heads then the rest are all pretty standard. Extra-long shaft drivers are good for getting to needle plates etc. but are harder to find. Quote -- Al.
