Here is a two tone wallet I just finished. It's made of 2-3oz veg tan and dyed with Fiebings tan dye and Fiebings black professional oil dye. The flesh side of the black turned out a bit ugly as it dyed through, but I didn't have anything else to make another so I just went with it. Stitched with Tandy's 2.5 mm fine diamond chisel and 1 mm braided thread.

My stitching lines didn't line up from inside to outside so that was kind of disappointing, but this is only my second time using these chisels. I have the 10 prong chisel and the 1 prong chisel as unfortunately Tandy doesn't make a 2 prong chisel. This makes rounding corners very difficult. Two stitching holes ended up breaking through on each of the bottom corners creating a hole two lengths wide. Fortunately the holes are so fine that it's not that big of a deal right now. I just need more practice with the tools. Tandy does sell a 4 prong chisel and theoretically I could remove 2 prongs from that, but I don't really know why they decided to go with 4 prongs instead of two.

That's a nice wallet...the two one sets it apart. IMO a longer stitch would look better with the 1mm thread.

It looks great, I love the two-tone. I've never tried to buy Tandy's chisels that small. I have a 6 spi one that is four prong and another that is two prong...

Thanks Leatherlegion. Yeah, I think I'll need to use a bigger stitch to give it a nicer look.

Monica, they're Tandy's new fine diamond chisels that they just came out with and they only come in 4 prong and 1 prong for the smaller ones. I have a set of the pro line diamond ones, but I think they're at 3mm. I plan on getting the 2mm diamond ones.

Man I love everything about this wallet...and it's uniqueness....you really don't see a lot of two-toned handmade stuff out there....stitching and design are great!!! I can tell you're a perfectionist :) Please keep posting more of your work...it's a great inspiration to the rest of us who are trying to do the same thing!!!

I can't find 2-3 oz veg tan anywhere. :(

Nice job

Where are you getting your leather from? Tandy has it, Springfield Leather has it, just about everywhere I order from (warehouse direct) carries it. Is it just that they don't have it in stock or don't carry it? That is the best material for the interior parts of a wallet and I use it for that all the time. I do however make my wallet backs out of 4-5 oz. veg-tan as has been recommended since the dawn of our trade came about. It makes a much more durable and long-lasting total product and with the veg-tan interiors it can stand up against anything made by a designer house or any other commercial item.

Too bad that you can't get your hands on it right now.

The Tandy here in Calgary never has it. They have 3-4oz but not 2-3oz. Maybe they'll get some some time...

If you can't get it through your local Tandy store then you can get some from Springfield Leather. I get just about all of my leather from them as they are solid source for Hermann Oak and they have some unique cuts that you can't just get anywhere. I get the HO 2-3 oz. veg-tan bellies to use as my interiors because they are not overly large. Even though they are bellies they are very firm and work well for that application, and the best part is that they are actually a true 2-3 oz. consistently. They are also very affordable and easy to get.

Food for thought if you are left hanging in the breeze on this.

Have a Happy New Year and my 2015 be more prosperous than 2014.

So I am full of shit. After I read this last response on Wednesday, I went looking on the Tandy website and saw that they had some 2-3 oz Oak leaf (middle tier) side on sale. I went by that day for some mezza double shoulders (also on sale) and they did have some of that 2-3 oz ion stock so I bought a side.

Time to start making some wallets.

Regarding the OP. Inspiring stuff.
