Members Rolandranch Posted February 1, 2018 Members Report Posted February 1, 2018 Hello, all! My older brother gave me a nice Damascus steel knife for Christmas and I decided to make a sheath that it would look good in. haha! Just kidding... that's the cheap sheath it came with. Here's the real thing... Thanks for looking! -Ryan Quote
Members KingsCountyLeather Posted February 1, 2018 Members Report Posted February 1, 2018 That looks great! Love the stitching, did you hand sew any of that? Ive been using my machine a lot lately and it takes a lot of practise to get it right. How does the back look? Quote
Members Mattsbagger Posted February 1, 2018 Members Report Posted February 1, 2018 Looking good! Quote
alpha2 Posted February 1, 2018 Report Posted February 1, 2018 Nice! How did you attach the rattle? BTW, nice pull-up leather on the sleeve for the new pen! I'd described pull-up to my wife, but now she gets it. Jeff Quote

Members rodneywt1180b Posted February 1, 2018 Members Report Posted February 1, 2018 Both the sheath and the knife are great. Quote
Members Bigfoote Posted February 1, 2018 Members Report Posted February 1, 2018 Wow nice job on that sheath! I'm also wondering if that is hand stitching? Quote
Members JMcC Posted February 1, 2018 Members Report Posted February 1, 2018 Good job sir! I like it. Did you buy the snake skin or harvest it yourself? I am thinking about some diamond back skin for a project myself. I like the way the rattle is incorporated into the bottom of the sheath. The Sweetwater Rattlesnake roundup is coming up soon so I may mosey over and see about buying some snake skins if they aren't too pricey. Quote
Members Rolandranch Posted February 1, 2018 Author Members Report Posted February 1, 2018 Thanks, Guys! No, it is not hand stitched. All machine stitched. I'll try to get some better pics including the back. I harvested the snake on my property and tanned it myself I just emptied my freezer by skinning 73 of them. The rattle is counter-sunk into the leather and is held in place with ca glue. @JMcC pm me if you are interested in a rattler hide. Thanks! -Ryan Quote

garypl Posted February 4, 2018 Report Posted February 4, 2018 Hey Ryan - how did you do the inlaid rattlesnake skin? Is it sandwiched between two layers of leather? I think it’s a bit fragile so you wouldn’t want the knife rubbing directly against the snake skin - correct? What weight and type leather and thread did you use? Gary Quote
Members Peter Darby Posted February 4, 2018 Members Report Posted February 4, 2018 Beautiful work. I looked at the first picture and thought, must be new to leatherwork. When I scrolled down I literally broke out laughing. I really like your design. Quote
