I’ve been punching these out because they’re easy and profitable. Average sales are $45, depending on tooling/hardware/plain. Recently got asked to sell these exclusively in a local store so I’m pretty proud of that.

Cool hardware! Would never have thought to use those - what are they called?

That is a screw pin shackle, sometimes called a Crosby(brand) or mistakenly called a clevice.  A clevis pin isn't threaded.

Yeah these are nice.  And they make good gifts too, everybody wants one to throw their keys in when they enter the house.

I made a couple of extra large ones for the workshop too, with the thickest leather I could find, and then I added a loop right in the middle to pick it up from.

Makes a good tray to move my sewing kit or small tools around :)

Rich, these look great!

I bought the template from Makers Supply and have tried out a few.  I'm wondering what leather you find works best - size and tannage.  I'm looking at a few oil tans because of the great pull up.  One is 3-4 oz (1.6-1.8mm) thick and the other is 4-5 oz (~2mm thick).

If you have a source and size for those shackles, that'd be appreciated as well.

Best,

neil
