RichBliven Report post Posted February 2, 2022 I’ve been punching these out because they’re easy and profitable. Average sales are $45, depending on tooling/hardware/plain. Recently got asked to sell these exclusively in a local store so I’m pretty proud of that.

Klara Report post Posted February 2, 2022 Cool hardware! Would never have thought to use those - what are they called?
jrdunn Report post Posted February 2, 2022 That is a screw pin shackle, sometimes called a Crosby(brand) or mistakenly called a clevice. A clevis pin isn't threaded.

Spyros Report post Posted February 3, 2022 Yeah these are nice. And they make good gifts too, everybody wants one to throw their keys in when they enter the house. I made a couple of extra large ones for the workshop too, with the thickest leather I could find, and then I added a loop right in the middle to pick it up from. Makes a good tray to move my sewing kit or small tools around

I bought the template from Makers Supply and have tried out a few. I'm wondering what leather you find works best - size and tannage. I'm looking at a few oil tans because of the great pull up. One is 3-4 oz (1.6-1.8mm) thick and the other is 4-5 oz (~2mm thick). If you have a source and size for those shackles, that'd be appreciated as well. Best, neil
Leescustomleather Report post Posted May 14, 2022 (edited) I have made a few with veg-tan I am not sure oil tanned would have the body or stiffness due to it being chrome tanned, but I am no expert in the matter.
