Bevelers

I recently purchased a beveler from the Y-Knot lace company, I ordered the small beveler but am convinced I was shipped the large one. I spoke with a lady at the company and she said if the vertical (upright backside) of the beveler measured less than three inches than I was shipped the small one. Mine measured exactly 3 inches. ???????????? By looking at the picture, according to the mounting hole positions it appears that I was shipped the large beveler. I edge braid knife sheaths and it is

List Of 2-D & 3-D Tandy Stamps

A few months ago I contacted Tandy to ask if they had any list of their 3-d stamps past and present. They were kind enough to send me a spreadsheet of the stamps. I hope this helps anyone who is interested in these stamps. 2-D & 3 D Stamps.pdf

My Intro

I started working with leather in the late 90s done some of the Tandy classes till the store I went to for class was closed. I earned my apprentice cert and was doing the next level up when they closed the doors. I learned what I could with any books and some web sites I could find at the time. learned a lot by self tout methods. I am no MASTER by any means. I do enjoy working with leather, the smells of leather (s), the feel of some leathers is a vary exciting turn on as my finger tips touch an

As I know ,the selection is as follower: A 95%, B 85% C 75% D 65% E 55% F UNDER 55% Why does Euro only have sellection A,B,C or 1,2,3. But other country, such as Bengla, has A,B,C,D,E,F. And some has TR1, TR2, TR3. What is different, and which one is good. Please give the favour, thanks. Source: Leather Selection/grade

Broken Bells

So today I discovered that I am going to need a new way to bring in money. I bought my machine in the hopes that I could learn to use it over the summer and stockpile a few things to sell in the fall when I start grad school. I wish I could just start sewing like crazy, but unfortunately my machine is still not quite in working order. With school and work pulling me different directions, I have had little time for anything else. Now, with my work situation changing, I have even less money ava

Reboot By Immersion?

I get some basics to get back into tooling and within weeks I have a list of projects I need to have finished by the 24th of this month. Wow. The first three I took on were little things, to be made into "belt favors" (a badge/emblem to be put on a loop and hung on a belt, seen at Ren Faires and LARPs all the time). Okay, a little swivel knife work, a tiny amount of beveling to enhance the emblem, and painted. No problems, get them done in a couple of sittings of a couple of hours each and the

So The New Season Is Upon Us, I Think Its Time To Stick Fur To Things...

It's that time of the year again... My thumbs and other digits are all healed from last years needle stabbings and I'm ready to do it all over again... Friday, June 11th and I think I'll make some bracers. I have made several pair of these particular style of wrist wear in the past but had a recent request from a friend of mine who wanted something that looked "Barbaric". After rooting through my basement for about an hour I came across some old rabbit hides I had bought to line a sword scabbar

Defeat

Well, this morning I know I did everything right. And yet, the problem persists. I do not have the money to take my machine to a shop right now. I am filled with remorse for my suspicions of those nice folk I talked to yesterday. They were probably just trying to scare me off of meddling with an expensive piece of machinery that I could break. The evidence of my overconfidence is here attached. This is the underside of my work.

Quest For A Pulley

I bought a used Consew 206RB-5 about three weeks ago. It is my first leather sewing machine, and I know just enough to know that I need to know a lot more. Thanks to the forums here, once I got some thread I was prepared to be unhorsed by the speed of the machine on my first attempted project. I believe the current pulley is 3". However, I discovered there is also some problem with the lower thread. The stitches were loose and got tangled. I don't know if it's a knob I should adjust for the te

Passing The Torch

With the new year came a new life for me. January 1 SHerilyn and I ran off to Las Vegas and got married. No sooner had we returned that we got the call I knew would someday come. My Dad was in the hospital with pnuemonia. We went down to see him and a week later on January 16th, my Father, Dan Dennehy of Dan-D Knife fame passed on. He lived a full life and accomplished many things he set out to do. He spent 30 years in the Navy and was very well traveled. He was one of the Eleven original foun

Eschew Obfuscation....

1st Blog alert; 1st Blog alert... I find my self in the same boat as always. I prepare ad infinitum (sp), spending way too much time with the details of each project. design, drawings, templates, dimensions, treatments, prototypes, assembling tools needed and on, and on; resulting in many projects at the same stage - unfinished. Time to delivery for paid projects has been ~6 to 9 months. I won't even mention how long I've "fine tuned" some projects I want (and in some cases need) for myself.

A New Beginning

It’s been really hectic around the workbench these days and I haven’t really had the chance to post on the blog like I should. My 4-H classes ended some time ago and all five of my kids did real well at the County Fair. In fact, I was a little surprised at how they did do. Three of them got Grand Champion and the other two received Reserve Grand Champion which meant that all of them would go to our State Fair. There was one other entry in the County Fair in leather, but he was from another p

Bashing Businesses

I am always amazed when I read a reply post on this site that includes negative comments about specific businesses, often after praising another company. Unless the initial post was about a bad experiance with a company why do others feel the need to jump in and bash a company that provides services related to the topic. For instance, obviously some people on this site have a dislike for Tandy but the store that I visit is a great place to meet with other crafters, share ideas and the manager
