  3. dikman, I thank you again for your feedback. I’m presently working on purchasing the machine which would be my first industrial machine. As you mentioned, it should be a good machine and is reportedly in working order. If the shipping comes in reasonable I’m ready to, and excited to get it as it’s looking like a fair deal. I was trying to see if someone was familiar with this no further letters/ numbers following the 211 identifier. I have heard that it is a machine for which spare parts are not too rare and that it is the precursor to many other reliable machines. All in all things seem to be promising. It will take me a while to get her online but I’m looking forward to get it, inspect it, clean it and eventually having it working as well as I can. I’m excited. Thanks

  5. I was buying from Springfield in the past until both of my last two orders got sent back. In my eyes what they sent to me should never have left their door. It’s sad to think that they lost a good customer by obviously trying to pull the wool over my eyes and hope that someone somewhere will just not send it back and just bite the bullet on accepting inferior leather. I’ve since bought two sides directly from Wickett and Craig and was absolutely happy with both the quality, price, and shipping.

Thank you, I use a soft tape to measure the circumference of it and and some if using a concho, on my first one made a connector strap for the back to fit it. This way it will fit different hats with a new backstrap. On the one with the concho you could make some extra hole on the bottom piece for adjustment. For fit try to make it snug so it stays on the hat, be careful if to snug it will make the hat tight, could use a dab of hot glue for added security or a stitch. For me being able to remove it easily for cleaning or changing bands cause I made a different one. Added photos to show, hope this helps.
  8. G'day cobber, good to see another Aussie on here. Which State are you in? The 132K6 is a good solid machine but be warned, an interest in sewing machines can lead to a very deep rabbit hole!

Those came out well. heck all your stuff is looking good! I've always wanted to make some hat bands, but I've always wondered how to make them if you don't know the size of the hat it will end up on, and how they are attached to the hat. Any pointers?
  10. Top photo is of an Osborne six inch round knife. I bought this when I was in the Navy Circa 1954. Number embossed in blade doesn't come up on Google. It has been ground professionally and cuts leather like butter. There is a slightly flat spot at the top of arch. I do not remember why that is there. $50 plus shipping Round knife at bottom of photo was custom made for me by Terry Knipshield. Three and a quarter inches tip to tip. This is a top of the line blade. I used it to skive leather and cut intricate pieces of leather. Blade is scary sharp. $200 plus shipping. I will not take less for this blade PayPal or Postal Money order

  12. If you get the 1/2" leather tape that can act as a guide.
  13. Found the answer. There is a float with pin which is visible in the site glass. It should be between the two lines. Not something one would notice easily.
  14. Chuck, you can get the two-sided leather tape from Wawak sewing supply with some thin leather, 2 to3 oz, on a let's say a 3" rad corner. If you wet the leather just a bit, I think you can compress it enough so you won't see any wrinkles. Make a 3" rad on a small piece and try it make the strip about 1 1/8 wide.
  15. Welcome, what you have done so far is pretty cool.
  16. Strange thing, I can figure things like that prosthetic out, but not this computer lol. sorry the note above is for you guys lol.
  17. I live 2 1/2 hours south of Springfield Leather. I was looking for a 5/6 oz tooling side. I asked, was taken to the back, and shown several versions. I found nothing I was willing to pay for. "Horrible" selection/quality. This week my wife and I found ourselves in Oklahoma City. Discovered Traditions Leathercraft. Great selection! KC Kreger is the owner...worth checking out.
  18. Thank you, Chuck and Darren, for the kind thoughts and comments. This job was most rewarding: seeing her pick up that gun, shoot, and load it the way she did was just awesome. One thing I didn't mention: I modified the wrong gun at first, so I called the guy to explain what happened. He knew about the job I was doing for Gal. He said, " Can I use my gun I said, " Yeah. " He said, " Don't worry about it then. Some people are really the best.
  19. is that curly maple?
  20. May I ask, why you stretch some hides with string, and some with lumber? Welcome! Welcome!
  21. would really be cool to wrap in leather were you could see both sides , like a key fob maybe, but I don't know how to do that. I have a coin I'd like to-do that with but really , don't know a good way to do it so both sides show unincumbered. any help would be appreciated
  22. Looks like you will fit in just fine. Welcome!
  23. cool!! How would you handle that corner? notch it?
  24. I think it's the kind of frivolity that immature people might buy on a whim, but never seriously want or use. In unrelated news, my younger brother wants one. So I guess I might as well order a bunch.
  25. I'm interested in buying this. I live in Charleston, so i can come pick it up. Please call me @8434801914; i just want to ask you a couple questions. Thx!
  26. Don't mess about with it Chuck. Some double sided tape and a double fold is all you need.
  27. Thanks, I'll sure test it out, and it may work just fine, and if not on this, another project. I bought a side of utility-grade chrome tan from Tandy to see what it was like. BTW did you know a 17+ year old cow, according to the tag, is only about 30" wide in the middle lol. Just a note to those who order online, you get what the folks who go in person don't buy!! In this case about 10" or more was taken right down the back, then probably returned, as there was also some pen lines down the edge and on the rump area someone had something partially laid out with pen marks. I won't bother sending it back. I knew there would be problems you don't get in person, but it was cheap and just something to try out.
