  2. As mentioned in a couple posts above, pig skin is great for liners and pockets too. It is tough and durable. If you are making lots of card slots that overlap, any leather starts to get thick, so as above, fabric works well too, though not as durable as leathers. I have used coated polyester. It lasts between 5 and 10 years when carried in your back pocket every day.
  3. Ive been searching for a place where I can use a clicker/leather press at a rent/ hire rate. I currently use dies for cutting leather and rubber soles (for sandals). The leather is 8-10oz and the rubber is usually 7guage or roughly 1/4” thick. Where can I do this? I am looking for a place located anywhere in the US.
  4. Its a shame that Michigan is such a long way from Denmark. Someone just made a heckuvadeal as far as I can see. Glad to learn that the collection went to a good family.
  5. Do which? They can reply to posts just like you and I have done here. Or you and they can communicate using the "Message" App built into this site. Go to the top right corner of the window and you will see Click on the envelope icon and follow the screen prompts to create a new message, or to open a message from someone else. Hope this answers your question.
  6. Your first sentence was helpful. Thank you. I was trying to post a new thread and didn’t realize I was commenting on an existing thread.
  7. Apologies. I didn’t realize I was posting on an existing thread.
  8. Can we get pictures of the belts? I've never made a belt myself. I'm guessing you stitch through four layers total to attach the buckle.
  9. @nejcek74 I think the needle bar clamp question is for you ^^
  10. Thank you all who responded. I had suspected that I might have been rushing the turn. I'm actually aware that the needle needs to be partially on the upstroke but this reminds me to make sure before I make that turn. Sometimes I can excel very complicated things only to be tripped up by the simple stuff. I will make a deliberate point to pay better attention.
  11. I had that problem when I started making holsters too, I mainly make knife sheaths. When I want to make a sharp turn I leave the needle at dead bottom, slightly raise the presser foot and turn the pulley by hand, as the needle rises you will see the thread at the needle tighten, indicating the hook has caught the thread. At that point it’s safe to make a sharp turn without dropping a stitch.
  12. Hi Guell, I took the end cap off my cylinder bed (different brand) , but mine looks different than yours. mine does not flop around like that, and the flopping seems detrimental to the feed actually working. What I would do is first remove the slotted / hex screw which will allow the feed dog to be removed. this will gain you additional visibility and hopefully it will become more obvious what should be preventing the flop. Taking pictures as you go will help you get it back together once you've solved the mystery. Good luck! Post some pictures of your progress if you don't mind
  13. I recently purchased a cast iron stand with a Heaton-Peninsular Button Fastener... manufacturer.... Boston Massachusetts..... Excellent condition..... Is anyone familiar with it.....thanks
  14. The "appropriately sized needle" doesn't tell anyone anything. What size of needle?? Depending on the toughness and thickness of the veg tan a minimum size needle probably will not work. kgg
  15. Deserves simple answer: NO kgg
  16. That is a nice-looking belt, worth the effort for sure.

  18. Hey, @girlscout4! Let's move this to the Leather Sewing Machine Forum, where you should get plenty of feedback. Next, i'll direct you to this treatise on what machine you might be looking to get ahold of: https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/25239-the-type-of-sewing-machine-you-need-to-sew-leather/ $400 is going to be a tough nut to crack, but might be doable. Most of us have been where you are. You'll be a lot happier at $1000 to $1500. Even happier at $3K ...
  19. Sounds like she needs to trim down there a 'lil bit 😜
  20. I have an opportunity to buy a Singer 251.;I need a walking foot machine. I will pursue it if it is. Is a Singer 251 a walking foot machine? Simple question.
  21. @Kayle When you quote someone, you keep the quote in the box and type your comment in the box below it. What you have done makes no sense at all. Please clarify what you are really trying to do. If you are asking where you can rent, then start a new thread in "wanted". Did you realize that you are commenting on a thread that is 5 years old? Toxo is located in the UK. You appear to be located in Spotsylvania, Virginia, 22553. You should identify your location so you get help that is more specific to your location. This is a world wide forum.
  22. This is kind of cryptic. What are you actually asking or telling us? If you want some dialog, you have to do your part.
  23. Singer 251 a walking foot?
  24. Hi if you don’t mind me asking where did you get your needle bar clamp that you use? I can’t find one like that online.
