As a placeholder, leather was used in a number of really ancient instruments As a chordophone resonator, for example in the Senegalese Kora, and other folk harps and lyres. As a structural cover, for example in the cornett (note the double t - this is not a trumpet) and serpent As a drumskin (and still is, in folk instruments such as the bohran, where the stretch of veg tan is used to offer pitch change). The whip

Hi everyone. Its been years away from this forum figured it would be beneficial to get back to learning from you all. Here's an acoustic wrap I made this spring. I've done a handful of telecasters and I gotta say I prefer doing those which I can just permanently lace on as opposed to doing it removable with a zipper like this one. I'd imagine there are at least a few other people on here who do leather wraps as well. I'd love to know what you guys think of this. There are definitely a few areas in the pattern and construction that I can improve on for the next one.

Made this for my daughter graduating this year with a music education degree. Saddle-stitched 3/4 oz veg tan. Hand-carved initials with metallic gold paint. Interior brass tube to prevent breakage.

Here is my newest creation. A full leather cover for a Fender Telecaster. So tell me what you think. There are things I wish I had done differently but overall I am content with it.

Welcome to the introduction of How To Wrap a Leather Guitar. After I spent months figuring it out and sending emails to some great guys who do this..I received NO HELP! I am willing to share my growing pains with you as fellow leather workers! So here we go! Materials; A: Guitar Body: *****I am using a custom made Alder Body based off a 1952 Tele Shape, that has 1 TV Jones Pickup and 1 Tone/Volume Stacked Pot. 1.Leather should be at least 8-9oz or 3mm thick in order to be thick enough to cut a 45degree angle on to join the sides and top and back together. I have tried it with thinner leather and it just doesn't have the proper height to do it properly, so after so…

Well this was completely different then anything I have ever tried. I had a family friend approach me about redoing her daughters Bassoon case. I decided to give it a try and these are the results. I replaced the inside with Red velvet and a fake fur material. The outside is covered in calf skin. The corners are wet molded veg tan. I also did a little carving on the lidded compartment in the inside. New hardware which I found at ohio travel bag..fast shipping! I recovered the metal handles with leather too. Overall I am pretty happy with the results.! Open to all comments ...pretty sure I wont be doing another...the price I would have to charge would be …

I've just completed a case for my larger button accordion (aka melodeon in UK). My design was developed using construction ideas from one of Ian Atkinson's messenger bag patterns and is made with Sedgwick Russet Shoulder from Abbey England. This was my first attempt at a three piece gusset and I'm very pleased with the result - Ian's video was very helpful for this. Originally I had planned to dye the leather a darker, but decided to keep it 'natural' and have only applied Carnauba Cream. It will get a good coating of Aussie Conditioner before it goes into use. Reverse was sealed with TanKote. The strap is made from heavy duty cotton webbing as I found the leat…
