  1. HI Bonnie The chinks look good what I can see of them . The pic is small, and the blow up is STILL small for these old eyes. Would you re send the photo. Tim
  2. Ed I had made several ohm meter cases and they wanted them dyed brown. I started running low on dye and thought I would thin the dye for the last case. I thinned the dye with rubbing alcohol, then daubed on the dye to the leather. After it all dried, the case shrunk and appeared burned. These were the days before my air brush. Now, I use only de-natured alcohol to thin and spray all my large one color items. I spray all my belts with the new mixture and never have problems. Ed, you've got some awe some work there. your application is quiet different that what I did. Happy tooling Tim
  3. Andy Nice work , Thanks for posting the pics. Happy tooling Tim
  4. Odin, I used isopropyl [rubbing alcohol ] to thin dye... ONCE>>>> I ruined the project. I spoke with several senior leather workers who told me DON"T use the stuff. They all recommended de-natured alcohol for thinning dyes. Happy tooling Tim
  5. Thank you All for the compliments. Josh, my process is... I dyed the back ground with dark brown, oil with Bee Natural #1 Saddle Oil, then NeatLac. I used a Sheridan Brown antique then final coat of TanKote. The edges, I sanded with a drum sander then applied chocolate brown then NeatLac, then I burnished the edges with a wooden round jig that I made to chuck-up in the drill press. I like the Bee Natural oil cause it doesn't darken the leather like neatsfoot or olive oils. Happy tooling Tim
  6. Hi Dixie Nice Chinks , you did a nice job. I'm with 7, I would cut my fringe a bit thinner. You were saying in your text that you are unable to use your roller guide, I use a pair of dividers and sharpen the point and scribe a line where I want the stitch line. My feeling about the stitch line is , it's the last thing you put on, and the stitch line will make or brake the looks of a sewed item. Hope that helps. Happy tooling Tim
  7. Nice work ..... thanks for posting the pics Happy tooling Tim

  12. Bruce, That's wonder ful work as always. My heart is out to you for your loss. Tim
  13. Pasca I've found that with the really good tamales, as greasy as they are, it's best to do one or the other. Eat Tamales or work leather. Can't do both Happy tooling Tim
  14. Hi Chris I prefer to dye my back ground then oil. I find as the oil settles it takes the dye with it. I use Bee Natural Saddle Oil. It darkens gradually , but not as dark as neatsfoot oil. Happy tooling Tim
  15. Jake I sure like them. Thanks for the post. If I tooled the tops, I would put the make stamp on a small piece of leather and sew it inside one of the leg tops, that's me. Happy tooling Tim

  18. Good pattern. I like it. Thanks for posting the pics Happy tooling Tim
  19. azrider Nice concept for a binder. I would, prior to cutting your lines, re-establish all your lines with a ruler and stylus. I would work to smooth out the beveling. Happy tooling Tim
  20. After you oiled and dyed, did you put a finish coat on before you sewed? Black dye , especially, has lots of excess pigments. Acrylic Resolene is always good to finish black dye. Good luck Happy tooling Tim
  21. I like WEAVER Leather . Good folks...... they do have a minimum order or $50+ Happy tooling Tim
