  9. Bob I wish I could attend your class, but, my money is going toward Sheridan. Those patterns are in the mail yesterday Happy tooling Tim
  10. Howdy Storm Good looking pattern. I was looking at your beveling. I notice that you have leaves below your swirl. I see that the second leaf, you started beveling on the outside, then continued your beveling into the stem. I would have started my beveling on the out side and stopped at the stem, then started my beveling on the bottom of the top leave and continued it down into the same stem. That leaf is part of and a continuation of the top leaf. I may have also back grounded the area inside the pattern that you left with no background or dye. I would give flow to your back grounding. I would have also used the same type of veiner on the small swirls as you used on the large swirls. Just use a smaller tool. That's just what I would do. Looks good, keep up the good work Tim
  11. Bob Welcome aboard. I'm down in Corpus. Waco's not too far from Fort Worth. Hide Crafter leather has the guild meetings and classes on Saturday mornings. Dave Smith is your guild contact person, he teaches there on Saturday mornings Happy tooling Tim
  12. No I don't any teachers in OH. But if you contact your local leather store , I guess you have Tandy / leather factory, they would know of teachers and you may consider joining your local leather guild. they have lots of folks that can get you on track Most all senior toolers are always willing to help out Happy tooling Tim
  13. Andy I have to agree with everyone else. GREAT lines and color. Nice tooling. Thanks for posting the pic Happy tooling Tim
  14. Bruce Nice clean lines and I like the font you used for the name. How you keep putting all the items out and a 40+ job is beyond me! Happy tooling Tim

  16. Bruce Nice work as always! I sure like the 5 point star design, sure looks good with that hair on back. Happy tooling Tim
  17. Mike Just a note, If your getting into the carving end of it, may I suggest you find a mentor/ teacher that can show you 'tricks' that make the learning curve smaller. Happy tooling Tim
  18. Hi Tyrel When your tooling the sequence is thumbprints, lifter then beveler. A trick that Chan Geer [not to be a name dropper] taught me is to go back over your thumbprints and tip your tool back and enhance the tip of the print where the beveler has pushed the leather in. Other wise your tooling looks great. Clean and smooth. Keep up the work If I can help, let me know. I'm in here most every day and in chat room in the evenings. Happy tooling Tim
  19. Tyrel Nice work. You've got your tooling down . Did you draw your own pattern? I like the pattern. I'm being picky here, I notice that you bumped up against your border with either your beveler or lifter. I've done the same thing on occasion and get my butt chewed by my teacher. Again, Nice work! Happy tooling Tim
  20. Hi AB Nice work, thanks for posting the pics. You may want to try to turn your camera pixels down a bit so your pics don't blow up so much. Keep up the good work Happy tooling Tim
  21. Howdy Guys I was talking with Jim Linnell the other day and was telling him that I want to take a figure carving class from him. I asked him what he suggested for tools. He told me he does most all his work with Tandy figure tools. He suggested that since I'm in the learning stage, spend the money on modest priced tools; that way if your not liking the figure work, your not out a bunch of money. I talked with Chan Geer, he agreed with Jim's idea. Hope this helps Happy tooling Tim
  22. James Here's a sample of the interlocking vines. Hope this helps Happy tooling Tim
  23. Howdy James Your wanting to get into Sheridan style tooling GREAT . The tools are different than western floral tools. the angle of the bevelers is steeper and the thumbprints [pear shaders] are thinner. What makes Sheridan style different is also the design layout. The patterns move in a tight circles and move from flower to flower with inter locking vines . If your interested in learning 'how to ' Chan Geer has instructional videos and pattern packs. These are available thru Hide Crafter Leather and possibly Weaver Leather. If your looking for entry level Sheridan tools, majority of them are hand made and hand checkered. Barry King has, by far, the best tool for the money out there. Give Barry a call and get a catalog. 307.672.5657 Happy tooling Tim
  24. Storm I like your pattern it turned out nice. I think there's something missing in your leaves. I would maybe bevel a line down the center and shade on one side then put your wigglers or veiner in. Happy tooling Tim
