Ricky Nice work. I like the overall look of the seat. WHEN you do ride your motor with that attached, it'll still look good from the back of the police cruiser that stopped you. ANDDDDDDDDD ... YOUR motor will go to the pound. [it's called a prohibited weapon in ALL 50 states] I sure do like the seat ! Nice work. Happy tooling Tim

Howdy Aaron It is always fun to work with Chan. He sends pics to me of items he has completed. I always wonder if he eats, breathes, lives leather! Are you going to attend this year's class? If so, he tells me he has a new lesson plan to work from. Enjoy Happy tooling Tim -

HI All I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago. I called Fiebings Company and they were very helpful. I told them what happened and they suggested a deglazer??? I did not have a big enough problem to warrant driving 160 miles to San Antonio to buy the product. Next time I'm at Leather Factory, I will be looking for the product. Happy tooling Tim

Hi JO Thank you for the post. I really know now that I'm but a junior in the league of toolers. The pictures really makes me re-think my tooling and strive for better work. Back to the drawing board. Thanks again Tim -

Howdy WestTX I use Neat Lac from Tandy. I buy it by the gallon, I've got a pint canning jar with lid. I took a sheep dauber and burned it down to marble size and use it to apply my lacquer and one same size for dye for all my edges. Happy tooling Tim

flooding leather
TimKleffner replied to meg1517's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
Meg I've never heard of Flooding leather. What are you want to 'dip' leather? What do you want to dip your leather into? Give me some more info on what your trying to do.. I'll help where i can Tim -
Meg If your tooling on 5-6 and your not getting your tooling to 'pop' , it could be the thinness of the leather. 5/6 is hard to 'make pop'. If you have a piece of 8/9 ... you can make that thing 'jump out'. you work the leather a little harder with out poking thru. I don't get to tool on it often, but ... 12oz .....ohhh my... aaahhh ... What type of tooling do you do? I tool Sheridan style , with undercut and high pitch bevelers. DON'T rub too hard while oiling or lacquering [finishing] you can push down your tooling Have fun Happy tooling Tim

Pete Don't feel bad, years ago.... during a cold wet winter evening, I was trying to get a holster to dry, I turned the oven on WARM , put the holster in , ..30 minutes later ........ BURNT HOLSTER. learning experience. What NOT to do next time ...L O L Happy tooling Tim

Meg What kind of project did you do? I have always dyed first then oiled. Rub the leather gently . If you tool the leather, anything more than gently oiling with a piece of sheepskin WILL cause your tooling to be pushed down. I found out the hard way. I personally would never use a buffing wheel or any kind of machinery on any part of my piece other than the edges. Good luck Happy tooling Tim
