  1. You did a nice job .. your fabrication and carving on the inside of the lid are great .... I applaud you for a brief case. Glad to see you doing it Happy Tooling Tim
  2. Depends on how much you want to spend. I try to use a mid priced concho, I use Hansen Silver or Wages Silver and I buy some stainless steel conchos from Weaver Leather There are lots of conchos out there from cheap to xpensive. Happy Tooling Tim
  3. Rawhide Where are you getting these Peter Main pictures. they are splendid. Great pics are you friends or maybe student with/of PM? Are you a member of the Fort worth Guild? Happy Tooling Tim
  4. Hi Allen You paid attention to George. You got some good lines going on there and your lacing looks good from here. Keep up the work, your onto to something. I only wish I had taken the same class, George is always good for tips to make things better. Happy tooling Tim
  5. Greetings All I'm posting a picture of a small notebook. I drew the pattern with a combination Oak Leaves and Sheridan. I used a gold liner leather then checked the color wheel and found that the turquoise lace is part of the color triad. Hope you like Happy Tooling Tim
  6. Dustin I own Chuck Smith , Barry King, Henley, and Lancer swivel knives. I like all of them . Lancer knives are sold by Hide Crafter Leather out of Fort Worth. They used to be priced about 59.95 and at times they are on 'sale'. That's when I bought my last couple of them. I also bought several blades from Jeff Cook. These blades tune up real nice. I also like the Henley blades, which take no tuning Happy Tooling Tim
  7. Steve You may want to try Weaver Leather or Ohio Travel Bag Co. they would be a couple places to start Good Luck Tim
  8. Heath Chan Geer also has several Sheridan how to books and pattern packs out, and one of them is nothing but corners. The pattern packs are distributed by Hide Crafter Leather out of Fort Worth 1.888.263.5277 Hope this helps Tim
  9. Howdy all I know lots of you have seen or made the Chan Geer pattern small notebook. This is a bit different look with red filigree and tooled inside pocket. Happy Tooling Tim
  10. each brand of contact cement has it's own properties. I personally would not regularly mix brands of cement. If you've run out of one brand and have bought another, I would not have a problem pouring another brand into an empty can of another. Tim
  11. Both Barry King and Robert Beard have web sites. Robert Beard 505.632 7039 Barry King 307 672 5657 Both mauls are well worth the price. Happy Tooling Tim
  12. Ed, If you have the female part of the c/s, you may want to contact your local bolt-nut & screw folks and show them what you have and they can order in what you want/need. I ordered aluminum c/s from my nut&bolt company. I had to order in 100 pieces of each but it's worth it. I got the c/s in a couple different lengths for various leather thickness. When I use s/s or nickel buckles I use aluminum c/s and use brass buckles ... brass c/s. Happy Tooling Tim
  13. Ed, I have multiple mauls and rawhide mallets. I'm with you, I LIKE my plastic face maul. I own Bob Beard black rubber mauls in multiple weights and have Barry King mauls in multiple weights. I find that I like the Barry King mauls better. Tim
  14. Howdy when your working your tools DO NOT use steel or metal hammers. It will destroy your tools. If you feel that the hammer your using isn't enough to do the job ... it probably isn't. You may want to try a heavier hammer or maul. Stay away from wood hammers or mauls. they are not the right material to do what you want. I have several heavy plastic mauls from 24-36 oz to do heavy work. I also went to the hardware store and bought a 30 or 40 oz lead filled hammer. [dead blow hammer]. Depending on what your doing ... ONE hammer/ maul won't do the trick. p.s. .. don't use them heavy mauls/ hammers on your tooling tools .. they will bend the tool. Happy Tooling Tim
  15. If I need to shorten the female side of the chicago screw, I made a block out of scrap leather, which is as thick as the length I need the screw. Put a hole punch thu the leather then I use my bench sander to do the grinding. you can then tune as you go if you need it a bit shorter Happy Tooling Tim
  16. I'm with Mike, I have a Douglas awl blade [small] and a Barry King handle. Barry's handles have a flat side on it so it don't roll off your bench if you set it down and damage the blade Happy Tooling Tim
  17. Howdy Monica If your looking for a 1911 long slide rubber/plastic model, you may want to try a law enforcement catalog sales. LE uses them for training purposes. I bought several from G T Distributing in Austin. www.gtdist.com 800 775 5996 Good luck
  18. Howdy I looked at the site you suggest. Looks like there is good info and I want to spend an afternoon looking at Also, I looked at your site, you got some good looking bags there Thanks Tim
  19. Howdy Are you for sure that you have Herman Oak? Where did you buy it? The piece that you have sounds like the China stuff that leather factory used to sell. Also, how heavy is the leather, you may have a piece of sole leather. Which is a different tannage. I've carved on H/ O for years and have never had a piece that would not take water and carve great. May I suggest that you find a Herman Oak dealer such as Springfield Leather or Sheridan Leather. These are the two that I deal with Happy Tooling Tim
  20. You got some good looking items there. Where was the Cowboy Gathering? Happy Tooling Tim
  21. Pink I like your chaps and your tooling is smooth. What did you use for your flower centers? That looks great and has good eye appeal I look forward to seeing more Tim
