I will give them a try, thank you

I am looking for a supplier of Garment pig suede. Tandy use to carry it back about 10 years ago, beautiful, vibrant colors in the 2oz range. The original supplier was a company called Cinema Leather and the leather came from Japan. Does anyone know who is carrying it or something extremely close to that quality? Any help is appreciated.

You do realize that your son is going to be talking about this armour you are making him until his hundredth birthday or better.... very imaginative and creative, can't wait to see the whole suit. Thanks for sharing.

16oz! What did you do to form it? Won't copper rivets stop some of the articulation? Please post pictures when you are done of you modeling them.

I would love to be able to see their collection. I found this site a couple of years back and wish that they would update or change out the pictures from time to time.

Key Rings
jana replied to AgronZoti's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I like them too, but I really like the hardward!!! Is there a supplier for them in the States? -
I'm pretty sure the tools in picture 1 are edge irons, and the ones in the left in picture 2 are called Glazing irons and were used in finishing the soles and heels of shoes. In the last picture, the odd looking knife is called a drag knife. I found a description in "Dictionary of Leather-Working Tools, c.1700-1950" by R.A Salaman. Sorry not sure about the others.

Nice! I like the look of it. Is it made from two pieces of leather, the back and flap and the pouch front? Will you be adding pouchlets to your next one?

You do some beautiful work, but let me get this straight... Someone is going to wear this piece of artwork for working in, not for show. More power to em'!!!

It looks close to being a Combination knife but it doesn't have the hook on it that a knife like that would have. Both Osborne and Weaver sell the Combination Knives if you want to look them up.

Do you still have the link to the museum you found that picture from? I would like to check it out a little more!! Thanks

A question about scabbards and sheaths-UPDATED
jana replied to jana's topic in Historical Reenactment
Are you looking for the long version or the short? It is basically a baldrick, the actual scabbard is 18'' long and 1/2" thick with the welting, but the total length is 48" with the backing which was lined and sewn.Once the blade is in place, two Sam Brown buttons hold the grip/handle locked against the backing. A buckle and billet was used to allow for different people and body types to be able to carry it. I am sure that I am not using the right terms on some of this, but hopefully you can understand what I am explaining!! -
One of my first books on leather work was your book on belt stamping, I look forward to learning more from you. Thank you for your devotion and sharing your talent.

A while back I asked for some advice on making a new scabbard for the SCA Baronial great sword. Well I got it done and here are the results. Thank you for the answers that helped to make this project come together!

Tandy used to have sole bend that they sold by the pound... I have no idea if they still do or not or if the manager is willing to do so... I would try Springfield Leather (check out the banner ad at the top of the page), if Kevin can't help you out with enough for one or two pairs of sandals I would be very surprised.

Richard- I can't really tell from the pictures, but what you may be lacking is depth. You want to be cutting into the leather at least a third of the thickness of the leather, half the thickness when you are more comfortable with it. Bevel as deep as you cut. Casing is important and try not to let the project dry out as you work on it, But don't soak it!

That is just cool... and alot of fun to look at. Copper looks like he enjoys his time playing the pirate sidekick!! Post more pics soon.

Heres one for your crituqeing pleasure
jana replied to Windom Leather's topic in Saddle and Tack Accessory Items
I enjoy making wet formed cases, I like the way it makes the case unique and just for that item you are working on. There are a couple of flask covers I made custom using this method also. I find tooling the piece after forming a bit of a challenge but it seems to come together. The phone case looks great, now that you know how, you can always make another one to match... Christmas will be here sooner than you think!!! -
It's a good article... I would like to visit the museum.

I really like looking at the amazing, creative, down right odd stuff you come up with. Thank you for sharing.

What a bummer!! But the Bracers look fantastic. What did you use to color and finish them with?
