  1. Bondo Bob Yesss sir ree! You sir have every right to be proud of that young'en! She looks so very sweet, oh, and her chaps look very good too. ya just gotta love little girls in pink. She reminds me of my grandaughter with her pink outfit. Nice job !
  2. These Knife Sheathes came off my bench this morning(well the rough out one was done a few days ago.). But I worked them all at the same time using the lay over time between each one to work on another one.
  3. I think it looks great! That's a lot of edge to color though.
  4. Man o'man that looks like a lot of work went into that rope can! Having never seen one up close, may I ask what they are made of.( besides leather) and where do you get the parts if there are any? Thanks GrampaJoel
  5. Very nice work! That horse should be placed in a spot for the whole world passing by to see! Very beautiful.
  6. Thanks Johnny B.,UKRay, and Storm. The canteen I used is this one(only in stainless, not colored). It's like a sports bottle you would take with you when working out or doing an outdoors activity. The insulation I used is from an exercise mat I bought at a Target store. (someone suggested it here on this site.) The mat is cut to size, and works well. It keeps liquids hot or cold for a long time and it is only about 1/2" in thickness. It's all hand sewn. My machine wouldn't work for this type of a project.
  7. Here's a insulated bottle canteen for horse back riding. I hand stitched the whole thing. The insulated leather holder holds a 44oz stainless steel canteen. Attaches on a saddle at two points. One at the saddle horn and the second attachment is at the latago/cinch strap carriers.
  8. Dink Thank you very much for the reply. I'm not sure that is what I saw, but I'll give your method a try. I believe it actualy looked like a flower, but maybe I can use your method and give it a twist. Thanks again! GrampaJoel
  9. I don't know if this will help, but at least you can get an idea about where to start. What I did was make a smaller copy of her saddle bags. Then I made the horn piece. The horn hole is actually an oval. The bags( canteenas) aren't at 90 degree angles. At 90 degrees they set way forward into the reins area. This is my own pattern but it's not to hard to make your own. I used paper files to make the pattern and then cut out the leather to match. My work isn't as good as some, but it always seems to work just fine. I like useful things.
  10. Hi. I've seen a leather button on a chap pocket, but can't find it now. Is there someone here that can tell me and perhaps even show me how to make one? Thanks GrampaJoel

    Whips & Bosal

Thalaskaru Ask What is the Bosal ? It is a device that goes over a horses nose. It is attached to some straps to keep it on the horses head and a rope it tied just above the button on the bottom. The rope is used to guide the horse while being riden.
  12. pete May I ask which Brick's product you are using to apply the color dye? Thanks Joel
  13. I know I'm late on this but I really like the added detail put into your work on this saddle. Like the dyed graduated circles that match all the concho leather edges, and your high gloss skirt edges, and finished edges on everything with an edge. Stuff like that takes a lot of extra work and a lot of extra pride in your work..
  14. I agree with you both! Stunning. I sure wouldn't want to be the person riding it though. Get one scratch on it, and you messed up an awful lot of hard work. But it sure is nice to look at. To bad they didn't do a shot of the whole saddle.
  15. I used to use a saddle just like this but with a covered seat for endurance racing. Very confortable and light. Nice job!
  16. got sound, no video. Even after dumping cookies and other folders, I still get a green screen. I accepted the popup also.
  17. Mark I got no video. Just sound.
  18. Will someone share with me an answer to these questions? Are mens and womens chinks made the same? If not, what are there differences in the design to have them fit correctly? Thanks!
  19. Hey that last one on the right looks like the one you made for me. I love mine. I use it almost every day. Makes a good walnut cracker...... not really. Are you going to make any heavier? I'm looking for something like 24oz or so.
  20. DeuceTrinal I sent a pm to you. are you still making the burnishers? I would like to purchase one.
  21. Levergun Leather The link above is where I got my idea from. There are a lot of butt cuff covers here, and he is a very nice man, and shared his method with me. 1.Lay your rifle flat on some paper and draw around the stock.( to determine the cover wrap length you want) 2. do the same but put just the rifle butt on some paper and draw around it. ( rifle muzzle pointing up) 3. take the first pattern and double it add about 1' and cut out your pattern for the stock wrap cover part. 4. take the butt end paper pattern and cut it out. now use it to make a mold made of wood (from 2X4 works well) to form the butt cuff 5. cut out enough leather and wet mold it over your wood mold. should extend over the edge about 3" 6. take the molded leather off the mold and trim to size. it works well to trim while on the mold also. 7 decorate, and add bullet loops if wanted, finish all edges, and sew everything together. I used 1/4' spacing on my sewing. I also added eyelets to mine to protect the leather the string goes through. That's it in a nut shell. It is of course a bit more work than that, but not much. I used 5 strand linen thread and waxed it to sew everything together, but I suppose and good heavy poly (270 or so)thread would work Anymore question just ask. I'll add some closeup tomorrow to get a better look at it. But the link above should tell you what you need to know.
  22. Is this what you are trying to make? If so I can help.
  23. I am completely looking forward to the next segment of your carving lesson. Thank you for doing this. Grampa Joel
