  1. Sheridanman I just got off the phone with Jerry at Van Amburg Leather. He has elephant and hippo and frog and all kinds of exotics .The number is 208-785-0800 The guys name is Jerry. tell him you heard about him on leatherworkers.net and maybey we can get him to run an ad banner on the site. He has a lot of exotics to chose from. Try it. Gary
  2. Try kevin at springfield leather. He has everything. He know's what leatherworkers are looking for and keeps most things on hand. unlike tandy and TLF ,he takes pride in what he sales and it is not the inported chinese junk that tandy and TLF sales.I use to buy it from Kevin a couple years ago and if he has it, I know it is good and he will pick it out for you personely. He wants your business and will work for it unlike the other corporate store that does not care if you get bad leather or worse leather.and what ever you do ,do not buy lace from Tandy or the TLF, it is dry rotted lace that breaks every 4 inchs and they know it is bad. Click on the banner to do business with Kevin at springfield leather and tell him Gary from santa fe say's hi. Gary

  7. I just took back several new rolls of lace that I just purchased from tandy. all of the lace broke about every 4 to 6 inchs if you pull on it with very little pressure. I nned to know where to find some good kangaroo lace where I do not have to sell my first born to get it and is not made for tandy or sell to tandy.I will never darken tandy's door again. Just need some advice on where to get good lace. And yes I do kick my self in the butt for returning the hansen lace cutter.even tho it was not as good as the one made 15 to 20 years ago.
  8. I just bought lace from tandy's and got a surprise. all the lace that i bought was substandard. it broke every 4 to 6 inches. It is all sub standard and when I brought it up to managment they got mad at me for bringing it back and complaining. I would stay away from the tandy or tejas brand lace made in india or china it is a sub standard product that needs to be off the shelves but tandy is selling it KNOWING that it is substandard. stay away from tandy lace just a warning.

  15. Sounds like you got a real bad piece of leather that was not thourghly tanned. you have hit some rawhidw spot and there is nothing you can do except save it for filler on other projects and go to kevin at springfield leather. Nice guy and he will help you out.I try not to get leather from tandy . but kevin will always take care of you no matter where you are in the country
  16. being of one that hate to use a sewing machine I use a stiching prick to make the holes. it give me the proper spacing. if the leather is to thick i use one of two ways. i go over the over the prick hole with a diamond awl or i use a drill press with a 1/16 " drill bit. Once i have all of my holes, stitch with even pressure when pulling the stitch and then i use an overstich wheel to go over the stitching to set and straighten the stitch to give it that professional look. I make bracelets and i need to have that professional look and that is how i do it. If you are using a 6 spi stitching prick use a 6 overstitch wheel.it works
  17. For being a first time big project it is not bad.it is much better than my first project many years ago. . All i can say is practice ,practice and practice some more, and when you think you know how to do it in your sleep pratice some more. i am sure your wife will like it. just remember that you do have to keep her happy so that you can keep doing your leather work ,so every once in awhile make something for her . mabey make a matching check book. that would make a nice second project

  19. Nice work and nice concept for a cell phone case. the only thing i would have done also would be to run an overstitcher over the stitcks to line them back up and give it a more professional look, but other than that it is very nice work. Keep it up.
