"thoroughness" is nice .. better 'n' that "compulsive" and "obsessive" the wench talks about

Yup. I've used the paste, but only when requested. That's been widespread use for DECADES, but I've never seen it done where I LIKED it. Reminds me of the stain left behind when the rain puddles dry up (blech!). Ive seen some really great leather work damaged with it. I COULD HAVE done a "crosshatch" stamp (I'm sure somebody makes a tool just for that), but this fella specifically asked for basket stamp.

Boogers in the shuttle race thingie ... I'd take the needle OUT, clean out the end teh machine (couple screws.. don't lose 'em).. maybe a chunk o' thread in there. Verify it's clean, turn by hand before reinsert needle ... eliminate the simple first.

Now, granted.. a smarter fella woulda wrote down HOW MANY DROPS of chocolate it takes to git that shade ....

Hey, I got a color scheme, self-inflicted. I wanna put it in "how i did that", but I don't mind showing off a little, and never did mind a critique... so .. Show off How do I .. Critique ... SHOW OFF: It does work, but not a "match" exactly. I think the COLORS were correct, but maybe shoulda tried some flat black ant-streak in the basket stamp? Fer the crosshatch effect .. HOW DO I ...: Put a ounce er so saddle tan (Fiebings - Angelus likely call it something else) in a small jar. Add a drop of chocolate (not the new "dark chocolate", though that would likely work too) at a time until you get the "rosewood" shade. Paint the entire surface. Then "sunburst" with full-strength chocolate ass usual. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMVHrTPf1AQ CRITIQUE ...: Uh.. that's yer end ...

Wiz replying at same time. Same answer, basically. Different SHAPE hole, makes it APPEAR to EFFECTIVELY be longer stitch, even though stitch length has not changed. And due to shape of hole (an inline slice verses a triangle) the stitch may actually pull deeper. And at the SAME DEPTH, the darker thread will APPEAR deeper. PAY NO ATTENTION to teh red arrow on the picture... I sent that to a fella to talk him out of white thread on natural leather

Well, yah.. I like a 24 needle. And you got what... "S" point, or maybe a "D"? You could measure, but you may not be getting "pulled further in"... some of what you are seeing is likely optical due to thread color. Your needle makes it "appear" there is space between stitches (there isn't - or it would break).. due to the point geometry. Brown is closer to natural color of the leather, white will show more readily. I like 277 thread with size 24 "LL" point needles. My preference It does this ...

IN a couple of days, I paid money for merhandise to SLC (hey Shelby!), Toledo Ind Sewing (wazup Bob!), Intl Die (morning Sandy!), and wayer (from here). Didn't need my date of birth for any of it. They had something I wanted. They are in the habit of providing it. Sounds like a win, win .... right?

WHat needle is that?@!

You "make light" of it, but this is COMMENDABLE and at one time - a long time ago in a world where integrity wasn't so scarce - this was once DESIRABLE and RESPECTED

My latest belt
JLSleather replied to Jack1970's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
White thread er not, I don't mind that belt one bit -
I try to get over some of it ... though I admit that I have taken EVERY stitch out of a project and re-sewn the thing when I saw a stitch looked different than the rest. And I do - though not often - still infrequently just pitch one in the trash and start over due to something unplanned.

I wasn't actually sure I'd like this EMP in mahogany, but I think once it dries it will look purdy. Good. Plus, no trademark issues of any kind, so thassa plus. Mostly. -

normally changing COLOR would not affect tension, though changing TYPE of thread might (nylon to poly, or to linen, etc). You do have to make sure it's threaded right, and since that's the only thing you changed that does sound suspect. I say "normally" because I HAVE seen changing thread colors "booger up" the works .. moving from a natural thread that was quite lubed to a black thread that was the same size but stiffer and drier ... that DID affect the game. If you got Bob's thread in both, it's likely not the problem.

Better start looking in to this soon. Bout that time to re-up the web site, and I do get a bit tired of those messages about how you folks crashed me again due to high traffic (627 times in a month). So, change the site, change the host, or ditch you folks Problem is, I've done web design, though only for a couple of years and I let the tech pass me up - didn't keep up with it. Other hand, I know something about that, so it's much more difficult for pseudo-designers to con me into extravagant payments for simple stuff. I expect a guy to get paid, but some of them have lost all sense of TRUE worth Think I'm good 'til after the new year, but I should check ...

Has 20-ton shop press on sale currently for $139 US. Which is good. Found it when I found out that they don't list the chuck size on their drill press, which is less good. Not sure why you would list the spindle taper before the chuck size, but we'll figger it out.
