Added. From the album: Stuff 'n' things
am i tired o' makin' these yet? no. no i am not. -
See, that tapered "draft" edge would work great for what I'm doing! http://www.leprevo.co.uk/embossing.htm https://www.steelstampsinc.com/custom-leather-stamps https://www.etsy.com/shop/LeatherStampsTools https://am-leathercraft.com/pages/custom-made-stamps https://www.etsy.com/shop/CustomMadeStuff https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Made-Design-Your-Logo-Leather-Seal-Wood-Stamp-Branding-Iron-Carving-Mold/382286790022?hash=item5902117d86:m:mxK2t0VgU1u9BQEIZjJLxxw http://www.steelstamps.com http://www.greyghostgraphics.com https://www.facebook.com/StampsForLeatherStore/

Well, I was looking for links, but seein' all these been pretty cool too. Bringin' up the list so it don't git lost ... https://www.steelstampsinc.com/custom-leather-stamps https://www.etsy.com/shop/LeatherStampsTools https://am-leathercraft.com/pages/custom-made-stamps https://www.etsy.com/shop/CustomMadeStuff https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Made-Design-Your-Logo-Leather-Seal-Wood-Stamp-Branding-Iron-Carving-Mold/382286790022?hash=item5902117d86:m:mxK2t0VgU1u9BQEIZjJLxxw http://www.steelstamps.com http://www.greyghostgraphics.com https://www.facebook.com/StampsForLeatherStore/ In Canada, it HAS to be heated

Exactly. A light texture is all that's needed... in fact, doesn't need to be particularly deep..just let the texture show up the UNtexture much like a white dot in the dark Or git all fancy, taper the depth out from the design much like leather matting... Ball end mill about 1/16" would do it, though could prolly git by with 1/8" - then just.. well, kaint share EVERY trick
-
Here's mine from @amleather (Alex Moreau) It took a long time to get here on the slow boat, but came out nice...I've hammered it quite a bit and also use it in the press with great results. The attached pic was the test impression he sent me before shipping out the stamp. Also attached is the proof after he worked up the design on the lettering to give a better impression... Oh, yeah, that works. With mine, I want the logo RAISED, and some seem to be tripping over that. Since mine is rounded design (embossed look, not square sides) a fella could do that pretty easily with a ball end mill, but I dont see a lot of that going on

You'd have to ask the stamp makin' folks, but I would think it's okay. Maybe make it a black/white image. And specify a size you want. Most of em say "high resolution", but I suppose high is different from one to the next. Still, I'm guessin' any of them folk kin re-enter your image in a form they need it purdy quick.

Apply dye from smaller bottles. I have 4 oz bottles I fill from the quarts to make it easier to use. When using a brush, mix in jars with a wide base, not "tippy". The best ones are wider than they are tall. And where possible, keep the dye bottles on a level BELOW the project - if you drip or tip, the project is spared. Doesn't need to be on the floor.. just having the project an inch or two higher than the bottle prevents a spill from being a ruined project. And cover the table. No need to spend a bunch of time and money.. the paper your sides of leather come rolled in works great. If you do spill, drip, slip -- replace the paper. And yes -- gloves. The latex ones I use are like $4 per JILLION or something like that. Money well spent. Available at the drug store up the street. So as a rule: place paper on the table. place project on the paper, perhaps with a board or cutting board under it to raise it above the dye bottle. paint what you paint, however you do it. Seal and wipe the bottle(s). Walk away - clean any brushes that need it, and then Pitch the gloves. When it's dry, THEN go back, remove the paper - any spills or drips on the paper should also be dried. Check the paper -- you may be able to 'flip' it to use for applying finish to that project. Otherwise, replace. repeat above steps for finish coat(s) Oh, if you're in the vicinity of a market, BUTCHER paper works great. Cheap, repels most all liquids, comes in wide rolls. Roll out on the bench, use as needed, discard, roll out new piece.

I just got a request to return a shield 9 holster that "doesnt' fit" from a rings gun. Strange, the first 300 or so fit okay. Could have just admitted that he spent more than his wife gave him permission to do! -

I'm right there with ya on the prepped and "dowel". Havent' used cooks molds, but not opposed to them either ( I really like Duncans guns, but they're tough these days). Trigger guard filled or not make no difference to me, but I do the sight a bit differently, and I like the port NOT filled. I put that one in the cart... guess it wouldnt' hurt to have it on hand. Maybe easiest way to do it is pick one up, make the holster for it, then find a guy local with one of the Colts and have him test the fit ?@! Seems like the long way around, but ... it's okay. I could send one to this current fella just as easy, but that doesn't let ME see the fit. -
Even if it's just line art, that Coast Guard thing at 3G does look pretty good. Just not what I was looking for atm. Folks feel free to add others you know of (or if it's yourself, as well) and we'll have a list the next fella kin maybe NOT spend time searchin'. If they did ya a good job, why not refer 'em ?

Well, not if it fits the same as the Colt Most 1911's purdy durn simlar.. just a bit weary of gittin' asked to make this one, checkin', seein' still no mold.. you'd think SOMEBODY woulda molded one by now. If it isn't cost effective to mold ONE, then I'll jump in say I'll take the first one if that could happen Maybe I gotta take first TWO? -
Well, shoot! Look like everybody just doin' line art. Maybe what I need is more of an embossing plate. STILL, good to collect this info in one place fer the next fella, so appreciatecha boys No particular order ... https://www.etsy.com/shop/CustomMadeStuff https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-Made-Design-Your-Logo-Leather-Seal-Wood-Stamp-Branding-Iron-Carving-Mold/382286790022?hash=item5902117d86:m:mxK2t0VgU1u9BQEIZjJLxxw http://www.steelstamps.com http://www.greyghostgraphics.com https://www.facebook.com/StampsForLeatherStore/

I think you sposedta stamp 25 at a time.. saves 24 trips to the press BytheWay ... when you gona alter that heritage holster (.22) to cover the trigger guard, provide a hammer protection "lip", and drop the skirt so that the top of the butt is about waist high, and shorten the skirt so that the loop IS the bottom of the skirt? You knw, just a slight 'mod'
-
Okay, trying to search the site is pretty much exhausting. Prolly fine if ya got nuthin else to do all day? So WHO makes these stamps... I mean an ACTUAL stamp, not some font typed into a cnc somewhere looking like any other? I'm a bit confused as to why there wouldn't be a SINGLE PLACE where this info is displayed. Or maybe there is but it isn't searchable... ANYWAY.. off to check the "services" section. I've always found these "makers mark" things a bit of a small man complex, but some regular customers have actually ASKED for one ..

NOBODY making a mold for this gun? Lots of "close" ...
