  1. OK Sewing Machine Gurus, I keep myself a dream tool list since getting into this wonderful mess. One of the things I'd eventually like to get would be a machine for faster work. What type machine would be best for a guy with limited use of legs/feet? I know of Tipmann's Boss, but are there others? I have use of my feet, just not well enough to drive. How much footwork is required to operate a machine without getting lots of mistakes? I may have to stick to hand sewing. God Bless, Ray
  2. Thanks! P.S. I just sent ya a friend request on Facebook. God Bless, Ray

  5. Oops, Accidentally posted this in Hardware. Can a mod move this to leather tools? God Bless, Ray
  6. I'm just curious if there's a shop that carries tools from several makers out there, that might combine shipping? Makers like King, Beard, Douglas etc.. Most online shops only offer Tandy tools, or one Premium Maker, Am I Missing something? God Bless, Ray
  7. Hey guys and gals! My ultimate goal in leathercraft is to make Guitar Straps, but I don't have a clue on the basics so I thought I'd post a few questions that y'all might be willing to help a newbie learn the ropes with. This may turn into a good "sticky" to help others too. What Type and thickness of leather (both lined and unlined)? If lining with Suede what adhesive is best (before stitching)? What Type and size of thread for hand stitching? What stitch count(per inch)? If cutting design out and overlaying, onto "base layer", What adhesive and stitching for that? Painting/Dyeing What's the most rugged way of adding more than one color to a design? And finally what types and sizes of "specialty tools" are needed (punches, etc)? Help a newbie get started chasing his dream, and I'll be eternally grateful. God Bless, Ray
  8. Sorry you've lost a Mother. Prayers and Blessings to you. God Bless, Ray
  9. As far as the oiling goes, I've been using a bottle of old Olive oil. Works great and it's inexpensive. God Bless, Ray
  10. You may be able to do it, but I'd bet it'd be difficult.. My opinion is limited as I'm fairly new, but I tried to do that to a wallet and I got spotting of the 'Roon through the back. God Bless, Ray
  11. Thanks Guys! I'm getting better on each one. Here shortly, I'm starting #5! God Bless, Ray
  12. Found it on Ebay NIB. The person I got it from had 2 left but that was back in February. They don't have any FS as of now. God Bless, Ray
  13. Well, I've done three wallets since posting, and the third one was best. It had nearly returned to dry before I'd grooved it but I don't know still which is best:head_hurts_kr: . The third was the first I got a nice deep consistant groove in so I was proud of that. I'm really just now getting some traction on correctly holding/using the tools. My overstitch wheel had an eighth of an inch play in it from the factory (2 different ones) until I broke out the pliers (thanks to LW.net) My opinion so far is cased, but as always I'm liable to change my mind. Thanks for asking KAYAK! God Bless, Ray
  14. Dang I wish I'd saw this earlier. And I had $150.00. God Bless, Ray
  15. You mean I get to mash something with pliers? God Bless, Ray
  16. Two new Craftool overstitchers (the interchangable ones) with lots of play laterally in the wheels. What can I do to fix this? As a newbie a tool that doesn't function properly is utterly frustrating. I don't have the cash right now to buy a better brand, infact these were gifted to me by a family member. Both are brand new. God Bless, Ray
  17. Okay folks, I got some backs and interiors from Springfield and I'd like to know if anyone grooves and overstitch marks the interiors? If not, what's the best method of keeping things straight? God Bless, Ray
  18. Will give them a shout tomorrow. Thanks for your help. God Bless, Ray
  19. Yikes, I just Googled W&C and there's a notice of "this site may harm your computer" . i'd like to see if they might be willing to send a sample of their product. God Bless, Ray
  20. I'll ask you something. Where can I get a good set of pens with lots of different colors? God Bless, Ray
  21. Care to elaborate (via message if neccessary) why you don't use Waterhouses VegTan? Newbie looking for a place to buy sides from, so I can make custom (non kit) items. God Bless, Ray
  22. Luke, Brother, I've been at this two and a half months. Two out of three ain't bad for a newbie. God Bless, Ray
  23. The three are Cuts, Skives and Splits. God Bless, Ray
