How to get Veg Tan leather to take Homemade Walnut Dye
Northmount replied to Vikefan's topic in How Do I Do That?
Many natural dyes require a mordant to fix them and make them permanent. That is where I would start my search. Somewhere on LW, there are a thread or 2 that deal with natural dyes. Search for it. Try a google search "site:leatherworker.net natural dye" without the quotes and see what you find. -
@Kyra If this machine is no longer available, please post that it is sold or otherwise not available.

Thanks! Would you like to add this to the thread "How to post pictures on LW"? Nice to have others comments instead of mine now and then.

Was originally in an imperial gallon glass jug for about 40 years before I got it. So must be over 60 years old. Belonged to an old farmer that used it to oil his harness (if he ever got around to it, harness was in really bad repair). My brother picked it up, there was a crack in the jug so he transferred it to a plastic jug. Must be close to 2 L left. And no, I don't use a lot. Main use has been to oil some harness I have on display, plus the one I had on display before that. Don't use much on small items from time to time.

Please, please, please do not post third party host links. Post your photos on Leatherworker.net. If the photo is deleted from the hosting site, then you are left with a broken link. If someone closes, or re-organizes their hosting site, all the photos will be gone from leatherworker.net. Some of the posts/threads become useless as there is no longer any illustrations in the post. It is far better to re-size your photos to fit, so they will stay with your post and complement the text. You can find lots of help if you spend a little time reading through this thread There are lots of suggestions about how to re-size your photos with various software, some web based apps and some downloadable programs, several to choose from. Chances your photos on your website are already reduced in size enough to fit. Download and save them to your computer or device, keep track of where they are, and drag them into the rectangle in the post you are making that is labelled "Drag files here to attach". I'm sure you likely have a friend or family member that would be happy to help you. Give them the opportunity to serve you. Might even be the kid from next door that would like to help, and get to know you.

I have a jug of NFO that is over 50 years old. It sat in a shed in temperatures ranging from -40 to 35C. It is still just fine. I don't know the original source. It has and amber colour to it. So I would say, if it really is NFO, freezing won't hurt it. Also note that it comes from the lower part of cows legs, subject to really cold conditions depending on where the cow ranges. That part of the leg if I remember right doesn't have much if any blood circulation and the oils/fats are a result of years of natural adaptation. Mike forwarded some info to me. This clicker is listed on https://www.ebay.com/str/tooltimes2?_bkw=herman+schwabe&LH_BIN=1 The clicker appears to be located in Oregon, Ohio, asking price is $4400 or best offer. Quoting Mike "No matter what I try to type that darned movie keeps coming up. The place is called Tooltimes2 on eBay and searching their store comes up with the press." Thank you Mike

@MikeRock Please provide location and the price for the clicker as per the requirements for posting in the marketplace. https://leatherworker.net/forum/forum/70-announcements/

I decided to see if I could find anything that might help and tried this search https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&tbm=vid&q=one+eared+bridle+pattern+video&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjppcnu2evtAhX0DDQIHcRyCVsQ8ccDKAR6BAgOEBY&biw=1100&bih=656&dpr=2.22 Found a link that might be of a little help. Some of the other links may have something too. There is a link to a Tandy video, but not for one eared bridle. https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/33101-one-ear-headstall/

Are they checkered? If so it will take some more practice to get used to them sticking in the impression.

H. H. Schweitzer Saddles
Northmount replied to kitch2500's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
Try uploading instead; just a switch in terminology but the words themselves won't help. This should help you. You likely need to reduce the file size of your photos. Several posts in this thread with lots of helps.- 16 replies

How do I use beeswax on my burnished edges?
Northmount replied to Leather20's topic in How Do I Do That?
Find it in canning, household and candle making supplies. https://www.amazon.ca/s?k=paraffin+wax+for+candles&crid=TAH6TVIB5MOT&sprefix=parrafin%2Caps%2C305&ref=nb_sb_ss_sc_9_8 -
There are several web based apps, smart phone apps, and downloadable computer programs that you could use to compress the photos to fit. Most smart phones will allow you to set the file size. Read this thread for some help.
-
Very good. I have a lot of trouble with fur/hair textures.
-
@howlback There are several utilities that will compress the size of your photos so they will fit here. Smaller file sizes also assist those that live on the fringes of the internet with very slow download speeds. 3rd party hosted photos disappear due to host changing their policies or disappearing altogether, contributors moving files, deleting files, etc. Your cooperation is appreciated by all members of Leatherworker.net.

Beginning to look for a sewing machine.
Northmount replied to mcmuck's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
The page referenced, plus the Class 3 page make no reference to them no longer selling, but says to contact them for pricing and delivery. I'd suggest you go to the horses mouth to find out rather than hearsay or speculation. -
Beginning to look for a sewing machine.
Northmount replied to mcmuck's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
@mcmuck Look at Longview Leather south of Calgary for Cobra machines https://www.longviewleather.com/cobra-machines/ And Techsew in Montreal. They will ship to you, all properly packaged. https://www.techsew.com/en/techsew-2750-pro-cylinder-walking-foot-industrial-sewing-machine.html -
@howlback Please post photos directly here instead of using third party hosting as they often disappear destroying the integrity of the thread.
