Dasher - Tandy Pattern I made these for my 4yo at the time and her best friend also 4. Ironically they have the same initial too. Kevin

I'm surprised this hasn't been done before, I've thought about this very design for leather before as these knive have been around a long time for stenciling and scrapbooking. I just assumed they didn't work well for leather. Here is an example That being said, the Tangleboss looks like it works beautifully. Pondering. Kevin

Thanks all for answering, garment leather wasn't likely the best comparison i agree, but I'm used to unrolling leather and having to weight it down to keep it flat, and even after a day or so you remove the weights and it spings back into a roll. This stuff unrolled and laid flat after (months?) rolled up in a box. Hard to explain, my curiousity was mostly if this was the norm with high quality leather. I may have to give in and place an order.

This may seem off the wall to some. But I have to ask... Today I thought to ask about the "Royal Meadow" that was on sale at Tandy as I'd heard about it but never laid eyes on it in the store. I found out that they keep it rolled, in paper, in boxes. I have heard people on this forum mention it before so the name wasn't new...but OMG is it ever different than they're regular stocked leather. It was SO soft and pliable. For a moment I was surprised and thought it was like garment leather(4/5oz) then my immediate thought was maybe this is what it's supposed to feel like. Most of the stuff I have used(tandy eco/prem) has been MUCH stiffer. My question is simple... Is this comparable to say Herman Oak or WC and the other top quality tannages you people are using? Is this what good quality feels like? I got to thinking later that half of the kits and patterns I've made for say hand bags and other articles have been so stiff, but with this stuff they'd crumple under their own weight (maybe not that bad) For the first time in awhile I feel like a complete newbie... I think i will deam about that stuff tonight. Kevin

Congrats, and congrats on supporting it by your own profits. I'm loving mine, I haven't had a ton of time lately with Work/Yardwork/Youngsters/Fishing, but I'm hoping to get very intimate in the coming weeks. Kevin

Latest Rifle Sling
Phatdaddy replied to Phatdaddy's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
It's actually a carving option from an old Tandy kit I kept. It is semi small and intricate especially the antler points etc. Thanks for your comments. Kevin -
Thanks, I had no idea! I thought it was some kind of clasp, but couldn't figure any way it could work. Thanks a ton, Kevin

iphone pic, not that my photography skills would be any better with a good cam in hand lol. Deer head carving looks better than depicted, couldn't get it well in a photo. Also the sling looks small, but it's 32 inches loop to loop. I added the snap keepers to protect the rifle from the Chicago screws. Thought i'd give it a try. Thanks for looking. Kevin

This looks awesome, lots of hard work there. As for the super sheen, in your situation, I can't say what the result would be for certain. You could try it on some scrap treated the same and see what you get first. Kevin

Sweet! Agreed! Way to go. Kevin

So, My Techsew 2700 Has Been Shipped
Phatdaddy replied to Phatdaddy's topic in Leather Sewing Machines

Hey Everyone, As some may know I recently bought a Techsew 2700, I feel like I'm getting a bit more comfortable with it. I have no prior machine sewing experience, so this is a first for me. I have a few process/technique sewing questions, not with the machine per se, but in general. I can start stitching a piece of scrap like no ones business now, stitching wildly in zig zags or around the perimeter. Sometimes it looks great, others not so much. Now I want to develop skills to the point I feel comfortable to try stitching projects etc. - when starting to stitch a project, do I start ahead a bit, backstitch first, then forward over and then continue around? - when I get back to the start do I stop at the "peak" of my initial back stitch and then back stitch a bit to finish off? - the 2700 has a relatively small bobbin(imo), especially with 207 below. Are you limited to stitching the distance the bobbin will get you or is there a tidy way to stop and start with a full bobbin? - is it cheating to hand walk around corners or is that considered common practice? - With my machine I got regular needles, is there a huge difference in the leatherpoint/tri needles? Do they have a noticeably easier time "cutting" through leather than the regular needles? (135x17) - Is there a resource where these newbie questions are all laid out? I'll start with this, I'm sure there will be more. classes locally are not an option. Unfortunately. Thanks a ton, Kevin

That is beautiful! Don't know what else to say. Love seeing your work. Cheers, Kevin -
I didn't make it that far in the conversation to ask. Most of the stuff I was going to be stitching fell in the light to medium range so I went with the 2700. I would message or call Ronnie. Ronnie <-- link to profile 1-866-415-8223 Kevin

The price is inviting on the GA5-1R so I had a conversation with Ronnie at Techsew. Basically this machine is strictly for heavy work, tack, heavy gunbelts etc. and does not scale down to lighter material. I JUST got my 2700 a couple weeks ago, I really like it. I don't have any prior experience with sewing machine and I still haven't reached the point where I've tried to stitch an actual project. My scraps have taken a serious beating however. The servo is a lifesaver to a newbie. I will say that mine does lose power at the low RPMs and I can't stitch a belt on the lowest setting, I need to have it on 400-500 rpm. This was (a tad) disapointing for me as I was under the impression that you could put it as slow as possible and not lose power. Super easy to setup, very heavy. Kevin
