  1. It's TRUE and I am ashamed. It's stressed so frequently here and with good reason. WOW. I have been using the same tandy blade that came with my starter kit. That probably made a number of members cringe alone, worse yet is that it bared all of my newbie stropping to boot. Awhile ago I acquired a few of those keen edge swivel knife sharpeners in a lot of leather tools and materials I picked up and tonight I found my hone. I decided to go at the blade and resurface/angle it. It was in really bad shape. It took quite a bit of time to get the faces straight and even again. I went to it with the jewelers rouge on card stock as I wanted to use the keen edge at the same angle and all(my leather/wood strop would be awkward). It's still not even 70% polished and it's cutting 1000% better I can't believe the difference. I'll finish it tomorrow. I just wanted to share, I'd be willing to bet money there are a lot of us out here using dull swivel knives... Kevin
  2. I really like it, the camouflage around the perimeter threw me off for a moment, it looked like part of the braid or a row of stitching...Very cool. Kevin
  3. That is sad news, sorry to hear about your loss, thanks for sharing the pictures. Kevin

I know Syl, I've been saving for almost a year. Got some of my tax dollars back so I went for it. TT I sure hope eventually, I have 0 experience with a sewing machine. Very excited though.

      Number one rule for sewing....

Keep your fingers away from the

      sewing area. LOL

  5. they're called "set screws" many auto and hardware stores carry them also. Kevin
  6. I don't know about Tandy elsewhere but mine does not cut leather. Kevin.
  7. I don't own one, but i think this would do the job, although it would cut the line in rather than scribe. https://www.tandyleatherfactory.ca/en-cad/search/searchresults/8029-00.aspx Kevin
  8. I haven't committed to anything, I was wondering if you could tell me what thicknesses I could expect to sew with this machine and what thread sizes it would handle? Would you consider this a good choice for a general purpose machine for sewing veg tan? or only softer leathers? Thanks a ton, Kevin
  9. Works fine for me on iPhone. Computer running Microsoft Security essentials both. They're legit 2103 E. McDaniel Springfield, MO 65802 Phone: 417-869-4811 Fax: 417-869-5504 Toll Free: 1-888-369-6906 Try calling them if you are skeptical. Alex is who I dealt with. SHE is awesome. Kevin
  10. Well one thing to keep in mind is the length of the belt. If you belts are averaging 40ish plus inches the double shoulder would likely not be long enough for 2 in its length...so how about as many belts as you can get width wise with a bunch of dog colars the same widths? Another thing to consider, coming from Tandy, there is bound marks on it even though it's "premium" Kevin
  11. I found an Adler 104-25, I haven't seen it in person yet. I don't have a picture as of yet either, these machine are very rare in these parts. Can any of you tell me the details on thicknesses and uses. It's flatbed walking foot, single needle. Availability for parts etc. Thanks, and sorry for the questions. Kevin
  12. Can you take a pic or 2 of a snap that you have set? Looking down in where the flare from the setter and one side on showing any offset from top to bottom? Kevin
  13. Congrats, they are both very beautiful. I'd love to make something like that for my wife so that she could throw away the first dozen roses i ever bought her...they look hideous, but she still proudly displays them. Kevin
  14. I'm not sure enough to answer any of your questions directly, but I know they make polish specifically for leather jackets. This may be an option. Kevin
  15. I use oblong punches when the sizes I have work for the application. The rest of the time I do as the above few have mentioned with the round punches connected with appropriate chisel. One thing I'd suggest is rotating the chisel or project after each cut keeping the cutting face of the chisel to the outside of the hole you are punching. Kevin
  16. Agreed, plus I like to reply with quote a) because sometimes there are multiple possibilities to whom you may be replying to. b.) because the person gets a notification that somone quoted them, I find this useful when it's me being quoted. imo, if the option is there, it's meant to be used. Secondly, and no offense intended, people on dialup seem pretty few and far between these days. Text will not create much more in terms of bandwidth. Pictures and HUGE pictures do for sure, but that's another whole topic. Kevin
  17. First of all thank you, it was a lot of fun to make. The lacing is just double loop/cordovan, and the lace is the "new superior calf lace" in 1/8th from Tandy on the spool. This is the exact instructions that I used the first time i tried this lacing. http://www.tandyleatherfactory.ca/en-cad/home/infoandservices/Leathercraft-ABC/Leathercraft-ABC-pg3/Leathercraft-ABC-pg3.aspx?countryid=998 Thanks a ton, Kevin
  18. looks embossed/molded more so than tooled to me. Very smooth. Very nice. Kevin
  19. Here is one I made, the design was my own, you are welcome to use it. Doesn't get much simpler and the pics that had been included should remove most/all of the guesswork. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=31433&st=0&p=196205&hl=+bottle%20+holster&fromsearch=1entry196205 Kevin
  20. What browser are you using? If you have 2 browsers, try the other. I was having issues similar with firefox, it was an old addon that was causing the grief. Kevin
  21. LMAO, had me for a moment. Thank you, Kevin Thanks a ton Bill I've been fighting the "winter blues", haven't had the energy to get out of my own way in the evenings after my regular days work. The weather is starting to turn around now and I've been more inspired. Thank you all for the great comments. Kevin
  22. Some of you may have seen this already as I had posted in the How do I do that for some lacing help. Anyway, I decided to go with my instincts, I'm sure there's a better way but it turned out well. Thanks for looking. Kevin
  23. Welcome! we all like pictures so you'll fit in nicely. Great work, can't wait to see more. Kevin.
  24. Please send it to me for a thorough inspection, I'll give you a full assessment in 3-5 years Very nice! Cheers, Kevin
