punctuation please! i use .6 mm tiger thread along with a john james #4 needle at 10 s.p.i. this seems to fit the size of watch bands quite nicely.

i just used tandy's ecoflow professional waterstain for the first time. the color i used was called tan. it leaves that nice warm whisky color look to it. i applied it in several coats and it gets darker and more rich with each coat. you might give it a try. there was no odor of any kind.

you got one of the last three in the world! that's why they're endangered! j/k very nice holster.

you posted this in the right place. but, go to suppliers and do a search for osrich. there is n ebay site listed. the seller is from israel. there's another member on here also. he's local to me in n.c. but i can't remember his name. a search might pull it up. if i can remember it, i'll post it.

please explain what it is used for? i've never heard of it. and what sizes does it come in? colors?

What Machine To Sew Wallet Interiors
ramrod replied to Chief31794's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
i've got a spare singer 591. i've used it to sew zippers into chaps before. but the feed tells me it should be used only for light stuff. i don't use it at all now that i have my 211g155. wiz - you could chime in on the uses for a 591, i'm sure. -
i'm sure we won't be hearing from him again.

yeah - the heavily tooled western look goes over like a lead balloon in the east - well, for the most part. the consignment idea is a great one. putting it into practice is the tough part. i'm in the throes of something like this happening in the durham area. initial phase right now, but i'm eager to see if this will work. i think you posted that idea in the right place. i think many craftsmen on here would like to get their stuff in a place where someone can see it - like a showroom of sorts. BDAZ had a great idea about music. it's a real attractor.

these machines aren't mine. i just saw them listed on craigslist, posted december 19th. i'm sorry i can't post a link. anyway, there are 3 machines listed for $75. i'm presuming each. look at the raleigh craigslist and type in "singer industrial". they're located in cameron, nc. not sure where that is. edit: looks like fayetteville area. there's one singer and one juki in the pics. i'm not sure of the other one. this could be a killer deal for someone looking to get their first machine.

well, i don't know where you are located, but i was wondering what is your market? is it mainly western gear, saddles, boots? i love to make watch straps and business card holders, but it might not go if you're in the middle of a cow town. but i think your idea is well worth pondering over. i don't know what is fair for a consignment fee. i've been offered as low as 0% for motorcycle tool bags...others were 10% and 30%.

ok....i did it. but there's something binding in the machine. when i rotate the wheel CCW, it becomes real hard to turn it. but if i turn the wheel clockwise for a fraction of a degree, it releases and is smooth until the next HALF rotation. it seems to do it twice a rotation. it's done this before, but if i remember correctly, it cleared itself eventually.

help!! i was sewing along quite nicely until i caused a rat's nest somehow. my 211g155 apparently went out of time. now i can't get it to do anything. the bobbin case just twirls around like a top and i can't get this beast to sew. i have the manual, but the photos aren't clear as to how to time ths thing. anyone??

please send a PM when you're up and producing them again. i don't want to miss another chance at getting a hold of one.
-
i'll second that suggestion. i've never ordered from them, but when i need some conchos, they'll be the only place i'll look. they have a great selection.
-
i see your point. yeah - the youtube videos i've seen are all hand sewing their watch straps. i'd like to see a production line for machine sewn just for my own info. all of the videos i've seen of hermes are all hand sewn.

johnv474 - what thread are you talking about when you mention maine thread? do they have a braided thread - or something similar. i want to get some of the chinese thread from ebay, but i'd like to have options also.
-
joe - it looks like you used a cotton canvas for the interior. and a heavy one at that. is that correct? i think it looks great.
-
ditto. i don't know how i missed this thread.
-
i'd like to buy the awl if it's still available. i'm not sure if the original post has been updated.
-
gone....i was perusing this thread and i only saw about 5 pics. wha hoppen??
-
i just can't bring myself to machine sew a watch strap. i don't think that i could have the control over the sewing machine that i would need to make it look even half way decent. plus, they're not that big to begin with. it doesn't take much time.

that is encouraging. i think i'm gonna look into getting some. i'm probably gonna stick with the black / white / cream colors for this buy.

Help Sourcing A Good Skiving Knife For Making Watch Bands
ramrod replied to teddycrafts's topic in Suppliers
i use an extremely sharp wood chisel. it's 1/4" wide. my brother gave me all of his 1/4" chisels because he doesn't use anything that small. it's got a great shape for skiving and the narrowness of the blade allows for some great control on a narrow piece like a watchband. i know this doesn't fall in line with the title of this thread, but i figured i'd offer it just for some info.
