  1. i'm seeing a fair amount of green dials lately. green is my favorite color, but just not on a watch.
  2. just forwarded it, mike. thank you.
  3. i keep going back to this, too. it just feels like there is a grain of legit to it. if only a grain. what i'm gonna do is tell him to ship it and i'll pay in full when i see it. it's the only way i can have no exposure in this game. doc and fred....thank you for your input, too.
  4. he just showed a pic of the skiver. it wasn't in a shop. looked like it was in a spare bedroom. there was paperwork near it. i zoomed in on it but couldn't read what it was. also said there was no real interest in any of the rest of the stuff. hard to believe. he said he'd ship the skiver if i put half down and promised to pay the balance upon receipt. i did bow out of the deal, but he still wants to ship it. nstarleather....i tried to google that pic but i don't know how. tried 5 ways til sunday to do it.
  5. well, i'm still dealing with this. he did send pics. its like brand new. anyone in the world would buy this in a heartbeat. i asked why he didn't sell it locally and he said there was simply no interest. hard to believe. i'll put it to bed today. i'm gonna tell him to ship it and when it gets here, i'll venmo him the money. thank you for all of the replies, guys. i really appreciate it.
  6. Yup. Exactly the same correspondence he sent to me. No follow up until I showed interest in the skiver. The list of items and prices are the same. Well, I asked for pics. So, well see how it goes. No reply yet. I just can't believe he bit on such a lowball offer. THAT'S what is too good to be true.
  7. I just sent an email asking for info and a pic.
  8. Awesome guys!! Thank you! nstarleather.....spot on. Initials JW. what was the content of his correspondence to you if you can remember? I'd love it to be legit, but chances are it's not. I will ask for pics and a location. I should have done that up front. But, I kept thinking this guy knew me and I'd forgotten who he was. So, I just kept going with the "deal".
  9. Thank you for the reply. My mind worked this way: I figured I'd offer a price that was SO low, he wouldn't take it. My thinking was that if I was gonna buy it, I'd have to steal it to make it worth my effort. But, when he grabbed at this insanely low offer, then I asked myself "wait, why would anyone take this offer when he could easily sell it for double the price?"
  10. In my opinion, you get a pass here. If this customer owns an F.P.Journe watch, he should know enough about an extremely high end watch to know it takes a curved spring bar. That should have been mentioned by him when he asked you to make the strap. Just my opinion.
  11. I recently got an email from a person whom I've never heard of. He gave a list of items that he's selling because he's getting out of the business due to upcoming surgery. He needs the cash and that's the reason he's selling out. Among the list of items is an SK4 skiving machine with vacuum attachment. It's listed for1700 bucks. I'd love to own it and commented on it. We negotiated the price down to 500 bucks, shipped to me. I then asked him how he got my name. He said it was a referral from someone that he had a pending deal with, but the deal fell through. Interestingly, he's never used my first name in the emails. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and I've avoided being scammed to a large degree due to my "gut feeling". This seems and feels real, but it is too good to be true. How can (and why would) someone sell a 2400 dollar machine for 500 bucks shipped. I nvere told him where I lived, either. And, I don't know where he's located. I guess I'm answering my own question as to whether I'm being scammed. My aim is to see if anyone else on this forum has been contacted with a similar offer? You can PM me and I'll give you the name he used.
  12. That strap is beautiful. And, I'm loving that Certina.
  13. where do you guys send it to be sharpened or reground? i have an old osborne that's gonna need an edge.
  14. that would confirm my suspicions. i've been able to keep an edge for only a short time with mine.i really need to get a high carbon blade.
  15. very nicely done! ive often dreamt about making a jig like this for my round knife, too. if you had made some kind of drawings, i'd have a nice guide to use. lol. seriously, you did a great job on this.
  16. resurrecting an oldie..... all great comments. in summary: i often do the same as immiketoo. prepunch the holes over a cutting board or similar and then stitch. not always. and. i have tried as the OP stated, to hold all of the tools in my hands as i fiddled with the stitching operation. no can do. i set down the needles. now, as regards awls, has anyone ever tried making their own? i have done it from old fashioned cut nails - or square nails as some might know them. they are very hard but grind down nicely to the desired shape. and they hold a nice point and stay sharp. just adding my 2 cents.
  17. i liked it! talking through the steps might be something to consider. someone who is just lurking and wondering if they want to get into this craft might want to know what you're doing and why. i like to know what size thread is being used. someone NOT in the craft might want to know what the bell knife is, what it does and why you're using it. loved the "cinematography", the low key music and the overall "mood" of the video. yeah....you need to make more. love that skiving knife!
  18. awesome looking hardware! i have been trying to find something like this. but the price....
  19. i agree that their prices are high. every single time i go there, i pay more than i expect to. but, this is offset by the fact that they are convenient. at any rate, i am buying more from ebay and the internet in general.
  20. just found some. check out acadia leather. it's one of their daily deals for today.
  21. you might try maverick leather. i've never bought from them, but i do go to their site to drool once in a while.
  22. well, i am a biker, but skulls are not my thing. it is just my opinion, but they seem to be the default biker carving. that being said, i can't see NOT allowing them to be posted. i just chose to not peruse the pages that they are posted on. now, profanity is quite another thing. i've seen and heard my share of it, and i try hard not to use it. i don't think this forum is the place for it in any form.
  23. it looks like pieces of microlam were used. that is very nice. it's long and perfectly straight. your friend did a great job.
  24. i have used those small propellant cans that you screw to the top of a glass container. forgive me - i can't remember the name. anyway, it gives a very even and nicely applied stain finish. the only problem is that you have to spray all day long to get enough to properly penetrate the leather. i found out the hard way when i finished spraying a piece of leather. it was beautiful. but i happened to have scratched it after drying and found that it was literally a surface coating of dye. i am all for dip dying and i do that when i can. but i have the same problem when it comes to large pieces.
