It is a start. Thanks Bryce. Anyone else?

The first snap looks like a glove snap, the second looks like a segma snap. The glove snap will have a couple of pieces of wire in the recess to catch the stud. You will have to have a setter designed for each if you use them.

I was browsing through some you tube videos a week or so ago. One of the videos had a comment about how the guy made his leather grease. One of the ingredients was lard, does anyone have a recipe for leather grease? (I can not find the video again) I did a search here and came up with 7 posts with the term "leather grease", one of those posts had a reference to a book, (Saddlery by Paul N. Hasluck) which has a recipe in it. Does anyone have a copy of the book? I want to try my hand at making a couple of whips and want to make my own grease.

What materials are you making the stamps from? Acrylic, metal?

There will be many tools you seldom use in this. It is a Tandy Kit that Springfield sells. Decide what you want to start ot doing with leather and pick up tools just for that, then you can expand as your interest expand. ie, if you just want to sew leather pieces together to make items, there is no need to get carving tools to start.

Love the new look. In the lower left corner of the pages, next to the RSS feed ICON, the text is hard to see since the background color changed to brown. This is where we can mark the forums read.

That looks awesome. I especially like the rope edging and the rustic look. -

I am a little North of Hattiesburg, Collins area. There are a couple of my items in my gallery. I have been severely remiss in adding items though. I mainly make pieces for costuming, but have done a holster or two.

That's about an hour and a half from me.

Tandy Black Powder Pouches pattern book

I take all of my hard copies to Office Depot and had them scanned to PDF. They have the large scale scanners and plotter printers. I can usually get a 24 x 36 pattern scanned for a few bucks. -
I live 60 miles south of Jackson. Closest Tandy store to me is New Orleans, LA. To the best of my knowledge, there are no leather working stores in MS. I have not found a local guild or club either. I think there is a Tandy in Birmingham, AL as well.

I switched to acrylic resolene mixed 50/50 with water for the exact reason you just experienced. My antique jobs turn out great every time now. I let it dry 24 hours before antiquing.

We use a chain and a come a long here. You would have to have an anchor point, such as a tree to help pull you out.

We were all beginners at one point. If we are not willing to help the beginners, the art will die. I was very appreciative of the individual who took time out of his busy days to answer my noob questions and get me on the right path. He had three words to follow, "Honor, Loyalty, and Respect". I enjoy helping people get started in this craft, as I am still learning every day.

You could modify a smart phone case to make one. -
Here is a dragon I did a little while back. Used a background tool, beveler, and a swivel knife.
